Bad Boy Gaming I doubt Wizards will restrict cards in Standard, if they wont do it in Modern there’s no way. Its for the old non-rotating formats. Personally while Nexus is a great card its definitely beatable and should not be banned solely for its gameplay. If the format rotates more towards spell decks Nexus will drop its fog shell and move towards something less consistent. The biggest issue with Nexus imo is not having it readily available as a card that can be found in packs. Its rarity is jacking up the price since it is playable and will get to a point where standard players will just move to modern if they are paying the same price for a Modern deck as they are for their Nexus’s.
@@Rodrigo00 First off, you're arguing a point that hasn't been relevant for at least three months now. Nexus of Fate is merely a card in the format at this point, not the bane of Standard like so many people cried about. Second, to imply that using counterspells is "cancerous" is just being a child about it. You play the cards you need to win the game, match, or the tournament. Your preconceived notion about a give card type is irrelevant. Often the best way to solve a problem is to never let it become one to begin with, i.e. keep it from resolving. Do you have the same problem with removal spells, discard, or burn spells? I'd wager not, because those are also just tools in the game, as are counterspells.
I don't know if I agree that it should be banned, but that's because I like finding loopholes and ways around other strategies. I mostly play modern, so that definitely helps. I do think they should limit it to the one because then there is a way for the deck to fail when they mill themselves out though.
Nexus of Fate needs an errata: "When it's put into the graveyard shuffle it into it's owner's library." Why does it matter? because graveyard hate is real and would be an effective counter to it. Moreover, the only way to mill a player with nexus of fates in his deck is to make "target player" draw cards until he has all 4 nexus of fate in hand and an empty library. (so around 3-5 cards)
That's 5 spells in standard btw: -Induced Amnesia for hand exile -Inspiration (2 cards, instant) -Lost Legacy (exile all cards with the same 1 name: nexus.) -Overflowing Insight (7 cards, sorcery) -Painful Lesson (2 cards, sorcery)
Nexus doesn't need to be banned. People just need to learn how to play decks that can interact properly or go way faster than the Nexus deck can handle. The super low to the ground Flame of Keld deck is one of these decks, as is Steel Leaf Stompy with the blue splash for counterspells (just make sure you keep a hand that can establish a meaningful clock and not the three land, Llanowar Elf, three counterspells hands; those aren't gonna get the job done most of the time). I've been playing Nexus myself and it is FAR from unbeatable, but the mirror often comes down to who has it first because there isn't really a lot of interaction in game one. That's just a consequence of how most people build the deck, not an indication that Nexus of Fate is unstoppable. People are so quick to make hyperbolic statements these days rather than thinking critically about how to contend with powerful cards meaningfully.
What rig do you run arena on? I've never seen lag/stuttering on 3+ card draws playing arena on my PC. . No no no chainwhirler needs a ban it broke an entire tribe (sapys) Nononono NEXUS OF FATE BAN!! I've played magic on and off since the 90s and tbh nothing felt as broken as affinity in 2003/4
I played against deck similar to yours yesterday and was trying to figure out his win con the entire game. Unfortunately I had just started playing and was still using the mono White starter deck. I was salty at the fact that I just could not do anything, had plenty of creatures to kill him that turn, then he just went off. I just walked away from my computer for a few minutes out of irritation, knowing that I was no longer able to even play the game. Both your deck and his are not fun to go against. I'd use play, but once they go Nexus there is no playing for you. Was the worst game I played all day.
I personally think it's a semi good thing in the meta. Why? because it's kills the current meta decks. It forces people to use other cards and strategies that they wouldn't normally. Like direct damage burn decks shred it. GR Unsealing melts it. The right control deck can easily deal with it. and there are plenty of sideboard cards that deal with it effectively. People simply don't want to adapt to it because it's undeniably annoying to play against.
Always been a control player at heart and I find Nexus janks to be fun. When I saw the card spoiler I got excited to play with it and traded in favors and cards for a playset before it got popular. Blue got something nice and cool, just play around it. Hell I consider Approach of the Second Sun to be more busted than Nexus and it was no big deal. R/B DOMINATE tournaments still, like almost 6 out of 10 decks. There's absolutely no need to ban a fun card just because you seem to think you can't get around it, you definitely can. Sometimes I think that the deck copy paste minions will continue to whine until some popular player uses something to publicly make Nexus obsolete. I said it before and I'll say it again. Just play and brew, it's a game of wits people.
It's simply unfair. Nexus of Fate is a Buy-A-Box promo exclusive. If it gets a reprint in the next set, I say let it live, but since it's so unobtainable to a vast amount of people, it's simply unfair. (It's also just kinda broken in Standard.)
They printed a whole lot of them. Statistically, there are only one of each mythic for every 3.5 boxes. Also, they could restock the BAB promo and sell some more m19 boxes
Dude, in terms of rarity, any other mythic in M19 is rarer than Nexus of Fate. Literally. Because if you think about it, for every box there HAS to be 1 Nexus. But in the actual box you might not even get a mythic. Think about that.
Doubt it will ever be banned. Yeah, sure it's annoying, but it can be really inconsistent. In this meta, with all the creature decks running around, Nexus is really good because if you stall enough, you win. Against control, the card is terrible, period. This is just your experience with the card. Ive personally never lost to this deck, its not that great. (I play Blue~Red aggro). The card takes too long to set up, turn 7 kill isnt that great. Even if you get to turn 7, its no garentee that you'll combo off.
I have to strongly disagree with you here. How is it inconsistent? Card draw, Teferi, fog, and board wipes are more than enough to stall every game and win. Against control, any card that doesn't have "this spell can't be countered" can be considered terrible. Nexus is FAR from a terrible card or it wouldn't have a $23 price tag (Firesong and Sunspeaker is $2.67, so the price isn't just because it's a buy a box promo). Aggro HAS to win before Nexus is cast, or it's almost a guaranteed loss every time. All the fog spells and board wipes make it difficult to do so. Plus, the deck placed 3rd, 9th, and 10th at last week's GP and 4th on the MTGO league. It's obviously a very good deck. I'm not saying the deck can't be beat at all (I've beat it with G/W aggro with god hands and my heavy control deck), but it's so stupid to play against that it 100% deserves a ban. At least control lets you play lands and draw for turn, turbo fog literally never lets you take your turn again when it goes off. There has to be a counter, something to stop the combo. Aetherflux reservoir decks can be countered by pretty much any color even when they try to combo off. Naturalize, Abrade, the white instants that target artifacts that I can't remember names of, etc. Nexus can ONLY be stopped by blue. No other color can stop it from going off (without having to kill the opponent before he/she casts Nexus). Even graveyard hate can't touch it, because it just gets shuffled back into the deck. It's ridiculous.
OldChannel You do have a point. I guess from the games I've played, it never really worked out for my opponents. I still don't agree with banning it now, but we'll have to see after the next set. The reason I said control does well against the fog deck is (other than Teferi) If you counter nexus, they are usually for an entire turn, and are easily punished. The same thing was said about Chainwheerler, now it's up to us to find a way to beat it. Thanks for the reply though, I guess I didn't think of it that way.
Yeah I understand where you came from with it and I've seen the deck not work at all a few times, but when it does work it's just insane and unfair imo. If they don't ban it for some reason, they absolutely need to put new ways to counter it into the game with RTRTR (lol) in all the colors. Which I have no idea how they'd even do since it's an instant that never hits the graveyard. Maybe a creature (for red) that either stop extra turns completely or stop multiple extra turns in a row. Or an enchantment (green) that does the same, a white creature that does the same, or maybe just an artifact that stops it. That's true too if control counters Nexus then the opp is down 7 mana and probably tapped out and vulnerable, which is good. I just think if they aren't planning on giving other colors a workaround against Nexus, it needs banned. Or limited to 1 as others have suggested, which would also be fine. And no problem, thanks for being cool about it (I was worried I came off as aggressive or rude by mistake, was really trying to just make a few counterpoints to have a nice debate lol)
The card does hit the grave though. IT DOES! And by the way, here's a card that will work 100% against infinite turns: Remorseful Cleric! Sac it in response to the Nexus trigger. Run 4. I don't know why people haven't thought of that yet. There is a counter right there within the same set. Exile all cards from graveyard? Hello?
InfinityRift Unfortunately, that's won't work. Nexus doesn't hit the graveyard. The card says "If it were to be put into a graveyard from anywhere, instead reveal Nexus of Fate and shuffle it back into your library." So basically, as it's going to the graveyard, it goes back to the library, dodging the graveyard hate. The only thing that can stop it are exile effects like Doomfall and List Legacy. Neat idea though, just had to stop you before you try to start using that strategy.
Soooo nexus of fate is broken if you run a Dimir deck and just run a play set of Unmoored Ego in the sideboard, play smart, drop low cost threats to chew their counters, then drop Unmoored Ego and exile all nexus of fate, you win, in game three they’ll be so hooked on counting Unmoored Ego that they’ll let other threats slip past, if you’re lucky I’ll be enough to close out the game or they’ll be forced to take action and you’ll get your window of opportunity to hit them with Unmoored Ego again I know this video came out before GRN did, just wanted to point out that NoF decks are not so unbeatable anymore 😂
Just run Gideon's Intervention. 4 casting cost. Play it turn 4 and name Nexus of Fate. Now it can't be used. It would fit in perfect since it is a white card. Put 4 in the sideboard.
Probably the only way would be to have two Gideon's Intervention before they get to 7 mana. First one for Teferi, second for Nexus, but that's gonna be pretty rare.
Intervention on Teferi will slow the deck down a lot and reduce its ability to chain Nexus consistently. Teferi + Azcanta is basically the whole reason the deck can function at peak efficiency, so naming Teferi first buys you a ton of time.
I play a bug version that functions just fine without teferi, it uses vraska instead and kills the oppenent way faster. The deck really isn't that great if it doesn't get what it needs in either version.
I hate shit like this, infinites in general take the fun out of playing magic with people, people just tend to play a single player game just trying to combo off instead of interacting with other players. my groups got to the point if someone infinites we just say 'well done you win now you can sit and watch us finish this game.'
I got salty just watching this game. I absolutely hate the turbo fog deck. Aggro can't beat it without having god tier luck/opening hands. Control can only beat it with Syncopate. Mid range has 0 chance. Sure, Nexus costs 7 mana, but with all the green mana ramp, fog, and board wipes, good luck killing the deck before they get 7 mana. On top of all of this, it's incredibly boring and unfair to play against. It shuts down almost every other deck in existence and you end up just sitting there watching the Nexus player take 1000 turns. Sometimes, you could even order, wait for, and eat a pizza before they find their win con, if they even find one because if their planeswalkers get removed, they just sit there taking turns with no way to win. IRL it goes to a draw, but in Arena it could literally go on forever and who the hell finds that fun? Seriously, they banned Rampaging Ferocidon for shutting down lifegain and token decks (which is the same deck really) and ramunap ruins for having a repeatable source of... wait for it... TWO DAMAGE! WATCH OUT! They obviously ban things for way less than what Nexus is doing, so if they don't ban Nexus, I'll be dumbfounded.
I like the deck's existence. I don't like the deck in terms of personal play preference. Prior to it the format felt like it was mostly Blue/Black Mid-Range and Red/Black Mid-Range or Mono Red Aggro. Their speed and versatility more or less kept Control decks in check. When most of the "important" top 8's have include 5+ copies of Red or Red/Black the format is truly stale. This is the first time in a long while that you're seeing four or more different decks in a top 8. There are ways to beat the deck, it's just about adapting. I don't the deck myself, it's one of the closest things you'll get to playing solitaire in MTG right now but I also don't like knee jerk reactions to a three week old problem most people just arbitrarily hate on because it isn't their cup of tea.
What complete and utter bullshit. It needs to be restricted or something. No way would I want to play against that deck, play it YES against it HELLS NO
Bad Boy Gaming I respect you man and love your vids, but I am going to disagree with you on this one. There are answers for it. But either way I will still be a fan of yours and will continue to watch your videos! SKADOOOSH!
Bad Boy Gaming oh and I love your repack videos so much that I actually decided to record my own, I only spent a few dollars on it but was very happy with the outcome. hoping to be a fraction of what you are to the magic community one day :)
It's not as bad as ravanger affianty but damn is it close imo...even with the high casting cost of nexus of fate you can still beat people. I quit every match on mtg arena when i realize I'm playing against turbo fog just like when ravanger affinity was popular.
Lol, this is nothing like Ravager Affinity. Also, quitting every match is not a path towards improving your ability to beat the deck. Why don't you plan in advance for it and play cards that interact favorably with it, rather than rage-quitting every time (which is what a child would do)?
@@canman87 first off i said in my opinion it's almost as bad as ravanger affinity and i don't rage quit but when they do the same thing over and over for 10 mins and i know I've been beaten there's no point in letting them play it out. I say good game and play another match.
@@joeleopard6729 Okay, well that's actually fine. I took your comment to mean as soon as you were aware they were on the deck that you'd scoop the match, but since you mean that you do that once they've presented the ability to essentially go infinite, I respect that. I actually wish people would do that more.
@@canman87 lol yea i should of been more specific my man. And nah i always try to beat it but if they have the combo out i just go ahead and concede lol
I'd say ban but only if it continues to run standard. If it doesn't then it should definitely get limited to one. But let's face it WOTC probably won't because control is their baby essentially
It should not, it's not hard to win against it, the problem is you had a deck that made the game last (because it was basically the same deck... duh) Play something quick, faster control or Symcopate like many have already said. I used a green dinosaur deck for a long time when I started and against this one it would win 100%. Fogs only get you so far. There's also a stupid deck I saw once a guy play against me, basically he just destroyed my lands and elfs.. I couldn't put anything big out, his was quick enough for me to not be able to Rex his ass (Ghalta, just an example, you all probably know the deck I used), so even though he didn't have any creatures he still stopped me before losing all his life (I believe it went down to 6 or 7, but then it stopped). So a quick deck, a deck that destroys lands or some other things are good enough against this. and also, wouldn't a counter to that Omniscience just give you the win? It's that simple
Played against a very similar deck last night got so mad i just started to let the timer run all the way down every single turn. You want the win that bad youll play a stupid toxic deck like that hope you like waiting an hour for it.
ALL Infinite turns decks should be banned. I doesn't matter what kind of deck it's in, it's 100% garbage. This game has gotten so not fun to play even since rotation. It's just garbage.
My thing is with all these people crying about cards instead try to beat it. Stop crying about it I hate people that cry about dumb stuff. I mean there’s a lot of things you could do that was smart that’s in mine. I play sweepers because I don’t want any of current dumb ass stuff coming out. There’s a lot of things why not play maybe some different kinds of cards I know that one of the guys lost to ballistic and it just kept swinging into getting bigger nothing you could do you could put anything on anything because I just drop all your stuff off of it by doing all of its damage, and then gaining the counters back on it so should we ban Ballistic? I’m just confused I love you brother you do so much good stuff but you’ve been on a negative negative way lately and I hate when your negative hey when everybody’s negative actually I’m going to be negative because you made me negative dammit I hate being negative sorry
If no ban. Limit 1
Bad Boy Gaming maybe instead of limit to 1, limit to 2
At least it's not nexus of the second sun.... that deck deserves all the hate
Yeah the card the exiles what you’re talking about is in spirits But it’s modern sorry

What about damping sphere

how big is the turbo on that fog? what you running in the .25 mile?
Aren't cards countered with Syncopate exiled? Maybe that would help against this.

you can play lost legacy until rotation but after that i have no idea on how to stop it

Jonathan Wolf I've been wishing them out with the Djinn. Deck is still pretty janky AF but it's fun when it fires off
Omni-science lol 😂
can you share u/r Nexus of Fate build?
Temur fog? Also, that r/u version is vastly cheaper it seems.
yes, every other extra turn mechanic exiles something or ticks down a planes walker or something like that
Deadroach none of those have a 7 cmc
Check out merchants cards for beating turbo fog. What's your opinion?
Already saw it. You can't sideboard 8 cards for one deck
Bad Boy Gaming have to get the win by turn 7
Lost legacy stops the deck
Oh yes! That's a good card. But what about rotation?
Infinite combo decks kinda ruin the fun. "Ooooooh spooooooky I have a loop you'll never break". No talent
Most fog decks run a negate or two right?
Coulda been on top of your deck, you had enough mana to cycle and cast it if you were lucky
How is Nexus of Fate any worse than Approach of the 2nd Sun? I play Approach. I saw if one is banned, why not the other?
What about damping sphere would it stop Nexus of fate
Or slow it down
That x1u card from dom kills fate
I'm not sure because I have never come a crossed a deck like that
Its a counter spell that exiles instead of sending it to the graveyard so nexus can comeback or if u no they have one in hand u can doomfall them
‘Cough’ unmoored ego ‘cough’

Soooo nexus of fate is broken if you run a Dimir deck and just run a play set of Unmoored Ego in the sideboard, play smart, drop low cost threats to chew their counters, then drop Unmoored Ego and exile all nexus of fate, you win, in game three they’ll be so hooked on counting Unmoored Ego that they’ll let other threats slip past, if you’re lucky I’ll be enough to close out the game or they’ll be forced to take action and you’ll get your window of opportunity to hit them with Unmoored Ego again
I know this video came out before GRN did, just wanted to point out that NoF decks are not so unbeatable anymore 😂
I honestly think watching what are you doing to I would be playing a couple of those cards that every time he draws you have to mill
Difficult to predict what you are up against before hand
"should nex-" YES
Just run Gideon's Intervention. 4 casting cost. Play it turn 4 and name Nexus of Fate. Now it can't be used. It would fit in perfect since it is a white card. Put 4 in the sideboard.
Teferi returns it to your deck then you never have another turn to recast it.
Now that's some good clean family fun right there
I got salty just watching this game.
Combo decks have a chance. Not mono blue storm though, that one is toooo slow.
No way would I want to play against that deck, play it YES against it HELLS NO
They”re probably waiting for rotation to see if it should be banned
The worst part is when he kills you literally by casting nexus of fate... thx chandra
If its not banned at this point i think its getting a reprint in the next ravnica set
I love it, polar opposite of aggro decks! I'll be running turbo fog today at FNM. Nexus of Fate FTW!
Hyvemind Extracts the people calling for it to be banned are shitheads that run the same boring AF aggro deck
Hyvemind Extracts i also love it
Cincinnati James I play the deck along with 40 other standard decks. I'm calling for it to be banned
Bad Boy Gaming I respect you man and love your vids, but I am going to disagree with you on this one. There are answers for it. But either way I will still be a fan of yours and will continue to watch your videos! SKADOOOSH!
Bad Boy Gaming So Bomet Courier and Glint-sleeve aren't more busted than a card that won't be cast until turns 7-10?
Lost legacy naming Nexus of Fate? Exiles all copies of Nexus in your opponents hand and deck.
Feels bad man
Gaahh I hate the fog deck. But I love Mr Moss.
Limit Nexus to 1
Needs to get banned. Like it shouldn’t be allowed in anything.
MTG Liam Agreed
Bad Boy Gaming oh and I love your repack videos so much that I actually decided to record my own, I only spent a few dollars on it but was very happy with the outcome. hoping to be a fraction of what you are to the magic community one day :)
Edh...
Gergõ Boros maybe, still can make it work tho I feel
Ban it : reason : Guttersnipe + nexus of fate
Selling 3 nexus of fates and 2 omniscience.
It's like at a tournament or even a casual match if they have the combo out or in hand and able to play it 8 times out of 10 people scoop
It's banned, I finally spent some mythics on a few to play in standard only to find it was banned. FML
I'd say ban but only if it continues to run standard. If it doesn't then it should definitely get limited to one. But let's face it WOTC probably won't because control is their baby essentially
Does every booster box have a planeswalker?
John Hannah Jr nope
Nexus of fate wouldnt be such a broken card if you couldnt put it back in your deck.
You have to put syncopate in your deck it exiles it.
It should be banned, it's so abusive to the game state that is is incredible and confusing how they even printed it in the first place.
I mean my 30$ pirate deck would on avg kill you in 4-5 turns if you had no defense/responses.. And I didnt even try hard with it
Fog
It should not, it's not hard to win against it, the problem is you had a deck that made the game last (because it was basically the same deck... duh)
Play something quick, faster control or Symcopate like many have already said.
So it took a loss against a NoF deck for a NoF player to realise its a shitty deck to play against? I find that quite humorous.
Ugh damn turbo fog
Played against a very similar deck last night got so mad i just started to let the timer run all the way down every single turn. You want the win that bad youll play a stupid toxic deck like that hope you like waiting an hour for it.
Just use jace as a token engine for creature based decks
DROP THE HAMMER
As much as I am NOT a fan of banning cards, I think Nexus of Fate is a bit too much.
This is how Magic was meant to be played.
Scott Endres true but those days are long gone. Well they exist. Legacy/Vintage
nexus makes games against control decks drag on forever and makes the game pretty boring for whoever has to play against it
It either needs to be available to everyone or get banned. Simple.
How is it not available to everyone?
It's the second best take an extra turn card. I think it should be banned.
Banned fir sure in every format
Nexus of banned.
Run doomfall and syncopate boom anti nexus
I play ur nexus with guttersnipe, it’s fun and quicker
The_One_ Who_Changes I figured a little creature would get removed easily
I honestly dont know much about this deck accept people hate it, how does it win exactly?
You should watch the video and find out.
🤯
Well in this case he uses chandras alt cast 4 spells over
yes it should be banned do not listen to all of the sweaty try hards who like ruining the game.
7 mana open 2 nexus of fate in hand doesnt play them and then whine 15 min straight.
Top ten. Skadoosh
100% yes needs to be banned in standard.
ya any creature based deck would whoop him
No it's good trade fodder for me
Ban.
ban irl but not in game
Absolutely ban
I like infinite combos but this one is too slow
Sup my ninja....
Maybe not banned, but restricted
Michael Helton there are no restrictions in standard
Cincinnati James true enough....
ALL Infinite turns decks should be banned. I doesn't matter what kind of deck it's in, it's 100% garbage. This game has gotten so not fun to play even since rotation. It's just garbage.
It should be ban from Arena only
Becouse it's easy to craft nexus with wild cards
Hi
No my standard deck is built with it they must not ban nexus of fate
They need to because it is way too broken, and blue white control is way too common in standard these days.
I don’t even run control run a blue white green ramp deck
No
Thats gross
I hate turbo fog, takes all the fun out of the game!
wow what a boring ass deck. i have not play magic for years, i was think of coming back playing magic but after see this deck i will not come back
So you just took the most boring deck on standard and said what's more boring then one turbo fog? Two turbo fog. Smh. Thumbs down.
So much saltiness xD i play my version of nexus of fate with primal amulet xD bring on the hate... you try hards. pro wannabes xD
