Amazing timing here... After considering one of these for 2-3 years I literally bought a second hand one last night! Possibly the best sounding mic for your voice so far. Can't wait to get mine.
Loved watching the behind the scenes of this one on Twitch! I already appreciated your succinct final result of these reviews but the insight was fascinating! And this mic is alright.
I've used this mic for my music and voice overs. Very good microphone, especially if you do both. I had to record with an airy attack with my vocals singing... Has colour and vintage sound. I'm considering whether I upgrade to a crisper sounding mic or just get a pre-amp to add different harmonics.
Ok, this sounds better than the Rode NT1. I watched both your videos in a side-by-side sound test and this one seems to have a perfect boost in the lowend that fills out your voice. Considering this one a lot more now.
Always nice to see a new review from you in my sub box! Reviews are always detailed and have absolutely everything you need to know about the product in question.
Interesting. I've been debating between a handful of mics, but now looking into this Sennheiser, this one has to be considered as well! The more microphone research I do, the more uncertain I am on which to choose!
The best sounding microphone in this price range that I've found. I wouldn't expect anything less than this. "Made in Germany" it's called? Great mic! Excelent and very straight-forward review.
I think a three way versus series between this mic, the AT-2035 and Rode NT1 or NT1A is in order. These three all have suggested retail of around $250-300 here in Aussie although the Rode NT1A mics are frequently found used (and cheap) for about $150 or less. I can see that the MK4 is aimed a little higher in the scale of things than the other two but hearing the differences and getting your esteemed opinions on them would be very useful. With thanks from DownUnder.
Been loving your reviews, just subscribed a day or two ago and bought an MK4 because of this review. Excited to test it out today on some vocals. Cheers!
Holy S#it!! I just got an MK4 today and it sounds amazing!! The plosive rejection is mind-bending and the lack of sibilance has to be due to witchcraft! I can't believe how good this sounds. It's like an MKH416 in Large Diaphragm Condenser form and they go for around $225 used on eBay. This should be the new standard for people recording VO on a budget.
@@A7mad. I have an NT1 and honestly the sound of the MK4 is basically how I try to EQ the Rode. The MK4 blows my mind every time I compare it to my other mics. Sennhesiser MKH416, Rode NT1, Sennheiser KSM32...the MK4 sounds best with zero processing.
@@Crowbar11115 Would you recommend it for an untreated small flat? SM7B does a fine job here, but it's a dynamic, so not sure with this. Audio interface is UA Twin X / Audient iD4 MKII.
@@gaborkiss1425 I wouldn't recommend anything for an untreated space. Haha Put money into some acoustic foam first. It's pretty inexpensive. If you are going to do any singing or professional work you'll definitely want to get some foam setup first. My main mic right now is the MK4. I use it for all my voice acting and singing projects. Really love your videos on products, very well made and I've even bought a few! I really wish your videos were more popular just because I have a few friends that have bought POS equipment and got mad when the $150 they spent was pretty much wasted. I try to tell any of my friends that are looking at audio equipment about your channel to look at stuff before they buy.

I wanted to hate this microphone. That's because compared to the SM58 and AKG D5, both of which I own, the Sennheiser e835 sounds like a $25 microphone and consequently sits in a storage box unused. And it sounded twangy on your voice. And I bought a Neumann TLM 102 and a Rode M2. But I had a chance to get this microphone as an open box special. I took a chance and WOW, better sounding for me than the much more expensive Neumann (which is no slouch). The microphone is built like a German tank and sounds smooth and, well, wonderful. For the money (graded on the curve of price vs. quality): 4.99 out of 5 stars. Dings: The microphone is built like a German tank but the clip is like it came from Dollar Tree (and sells for $60 if you buy it outright). The build quality of the clip is unconscionable and the MK4 doesn't fit properly in the supplied pouch which makes zero sense. It's like some people at Sennheiser spent too much time drinking too much beer at Oktoberfest or something because these goofs are inconsistent with the quality of the microphone. They deserve to be walloped upside the head or something.
Hey Podcastage, rly enjoy your videos and performance, which you are investing into your videos. I liked this mic the most of all reviews which i've seen, and I got it with nice discount. I bought also Scarlett solo as an interface. The main goals is to use it for voip programms like discord and record some voice/guitar stuff. If we focus on my first purpose, unfortunately it has a huge problem. In this video you set the gain to 11 oclock. In my case - if I set it to 11, it becames soooooooo queit... All the way from gain 0% to 80% is like nothing, but when I go over the 80% it immediately going to be 3-4-5 times louder. It's my first setup, so I dont even know if it's normal or not. Can you give me some tipps? p.s. cable lenght is 2m. I also was watching other interfaces, but they are almost have less gain range than scarlett devices(56db). Only MOTU M2 has 60db, but it is out of stock everywhere... Thanks to corona xD p.s.s. yes, if I speak directly in the mic like 3cm away - it is ok.
