I never tire of listening to the MJQ. There is always so much going on!! Four jazz genius playing untouchable jazz with great feeling, empathy, and swing, great soloing AND ensemble work. What's left? NOTHING!! To me the MJQ was perfection. No other group comes close.
I could not agree more with your comment .. (although 11 years ago) I still feel the MJQ were the finest in their interpretation of modern cool jazz.. ... a jazz journalist once describe them back in their heyday (60s ...( as music your grand parents would listen to and enjoy).. MJQ was perfection.. Harvey Perkoff
I'm not a drummer, but I'm always impressed by Connie Kay. He just seems to lay down such a perfect percussive canvas for everyone else in the group to paint on.
If American people think that Jazz is just know in the US an Europe, they are wrong. In Mexico there's a select group of people in every mayor city, that adores Jazz. The MJQ with this great and elegant musicians keep breaking our hearts. I, in particular, love the way John Lewis can be so respectful to Milt Jackson, that he stays in the underground while Milt plays. Jazz is the most sensitive art that moves me. Love it! And, I remember my dad's words: "Just good music is permanent".
I got into jazz in the early 1960s, and never quite got over the groups I listened to like the MJQ, Coltrane, Miles Davis, McCoy Tyner, Monk, and others. I had the good fortune to see and listen to them clubs in Greenwich Village, the East Village and other parts of NYC then, and my jazz taste was set forever.
The group is clear as glass. In fact Connie Kaye's cymbal sounds like glass and the combination with Milt Jackson's vibes and Percy ans John have to careful not to break. Marvelous!
I've been a devoted MJQ fan since I was a teenager (Heard Fontessa when I was fourteen, 1955). I've seen them perform in outdoor concerts, nightcubs and concert halls. For some reason, I think, they always sound better on their recordings.
The BOMB! These guys are so incredible I want to bow down in obeisance. Every time I hear a song I hear something new. It's like having a musical puzzle and the pieces come together with each new play.
Gets better every time I hear it. Elevator Music?? Some How I don't think so ! Everyone has so much talent from Bags to Connie Kay Wow....Music like this only comes once in a life time.
Can you imagine all the original cats from MJQ were in Dizzy Gillespie's band along with Byrd, Miles, Coltrane, Burrell, Moody, Lateef and others. Amazing!
This, Group of Masters is the most Articulate , Smoothest, Together ,Quartet above its Originality -"Elevated to Their Own Degree" .It takes many Years to Be This....
@JorikYerkin Well, your wife has stumbled upon the difference between the form and content. Yes, much of the elevator music has this form, but the content... Unmatchable.
my wife from mid-west called it elevator music.... Gotta talk to technicians about how to put some country music crap in my elevator, so she can understand that any kinda music can be "elevatoral"
This is really a simple tune so no wonder many refer to it as elevator music. Yes it comes from the Swing era and was written for an operetta so again no wonder why it's so pedestrian sounding. Anyway, not for everyone but if you like it you like it :)
uh, elevator music doesnt have monsterous and intense swing like this. you should have told her that. and yes i am telling you how to talk to your wife.

Bags never seems to get tired, I love these guys, from the fifties on up to now.

A touch of blues from Milt Jackson
wow, my kind of music, relaxed and a nice glass of wine in San Francisco, ya.
i saw Milt Jackson perform just a couple of months prior to his sad death.
Ternura y nostalgia de algún lugar entrañablemente real.
I agree 100&
So,so good & amazing sounds!
Modern jazz quartet at their best
The perfect combination.
Thanks for posting. A wonderful rendition of this beautiful composition.
Milt. You the man.
il più grande quartetto di cool jazz grazie !
What a GIANT of a swinger eh? You can hear the whole song under its hypnotic impro!
it's amazing how far he strays from the melody without really going far at all.
Sublime en lo imperfecto
sublime
Connie Kay ¡el reloj! sin prisa y sin pausa,
Los 4 eran unos GENIOS!!
The MJQ Sextet was fantabulous!!
KRASNE !

WONDERFUL
elevates the mind
Milt Jackson is a monster!
+Jeff Baran Of course he is, and one of the greatest musicians of all time.
Understatement.
That vibe player

❤❤❤❤❤
Los primeros 8 segundos son de la obra LA OFRENDA MUSICAL de J.S BACH
Un perfecto equilibrio entre el sentimiento y la inteligencia de las construcciones musicales del MJQ
I agree
@JorikYerkin: This music elevates me.
only one thing to say: I AGREE!!!!
I agree 100%
Orgasm for your ears!
Amazing sounds & so,so good.
Nota 1.000!!!
John: My father used to say that such music as this is "better than sex". Only total music lovers would make such a statement!!!
Much better listening to this music and having sex with a woman that like this music too!
@HumanityWins don't question it, just enjoy

Yeah, you better stick to Elvis.
That is some bad vibe technique. Awesome improvising, though.
