How does the political system in Iran work?

- Iran regularly holds parliamentary elections. But what influence does the parliament have on Iranian politics? Iran's political system intertwines republican and theocratic institutions. Ideologies face each other; domestic and foreign policy crises are the order of the day. How politics works in the Islamic Republic is explained in three minutes.
The animation is stunningly beautiful!
No
The reality is ugly af but the visuals of this short animation is just so beautiful.
It is not that the elections in Iran are ineffective. Certainly, if President Rouhani had not been elected, JCPOA would not have signed. (Naturally, the Iranian system is more open than the USSR system.)
@@slim_meri7405 no it's not! Please take it from me, we have no choice in anything. There are no real political parties or politicians that work for people and if lived here you could see that 100% of the system is illegitimate.
Where’s the Saudi Arabia video made by the same content creators ??
lol exactly 😂.
the saudis get a pass for them not being democratic.
Because there's nothing confusing about an absolute monarchy. But a dictatorship mascaraed as a democracy has even its own citizens questioning how it works.
It is not that the elections in Iran are ineffective. Certainly, if President Rouhani had not been elected, JCPOA would not have signed. (Naturally, the Iranian system is more open than the USSR system.)
Wish you'd mention the killings and arrestes as results of protesting
You mean what's happening in the West rn?
Well ordinary Iranians, in no country in the world ordinary people influence their state politics. People can change but the strategical decisions can’t, which are the ones who affect our lives the most.
Very True. Beautifully done.
Good video !
to answer the question, "It doesn`t work"
@Mustafa Iraq Iran hasn't progressed, it has stagnated socially and politically. The laws in Iran have stunted political freedoms and beliefs, where the only acceptable belief is Shia Islam.
@Mustafa Iraq It is not arrogance. Iran is a constitutional dictatoship.
Iranian democracy is near Western democracy, but there is more religion and more separation of powers.
@@chinggiskhan6678 Why should "progress" be the main value or religion? In Iran Shiism is a state religion, because the people believe in Islam. But Christianity, Judaism and Zorastrianism are also free religions.
@@user-uw7ji9sg6s Why should maintaining traditional values be the main value?
Not all Iranians agree with this system. For example, Mohammad-Ali Abtahi (who was vice president from 2001 - 2004), believes that this system restricts the voting power and the ability to reform the country, or change it's political institutions. University students and the middle class have protested against the institutions as well, citing that it restricts the people's will. The only people in Iran who want this system to continue are either Islamist extremists or are part of one of the unelected offices in power, and those people have the most influence.
Abtahi is joker 😂
So in every country in the world everybody agrees with the system?
Dictatorship system, neo-Nazi, tyranny and the like
IRAN has its rights to defend its self
this is spot on.
This is not completely accurate. "Guardian Council" has 12 members. The supreme leader chooses six members of the "Guardian Council" directly, and he selects another six indirectly (they are chosen by the head of judiciary who is appointed by the supreme leader himself). The assembly of experts is an exclusive assembly in which only clergymen can be nominated for + they are only nominated after receiving confirmation from the "Guardian Council".
The nature of this circular power structure is what empowers the dictatorship in Iran. I grew up in Iran and this is a part of civics course that you learn in middle school in Iran. This doesn't sound democratic, does it????
Who appoints members to "assembly of experts" to choose next suprime leader??
The current supreme leader
@@szemjuelhont3574 no, people.
@@user-uw7ji9sg6s no, the supreme leader chooses half of that council. If the supreme leader doesn't want someone to be supreme leader they won't become one
@@szemjuelhont3574 What? You don't know the Iranian system. The Supreme Leader appoints half of the Guardian Council (also called the Constitutional Council). The Guardian Council is not the Council of Experts. Iranian people elects the Council of Experts. The Council of Experts elects the Supreme Leader.
This system is similar to the American system. There are Electoral College.
@@user-uw7ji9sg6s yes true, but the guardian council has to approve all of the experts elected in to the council. Meaning if the supreme leader doesn’t want someone to get in. They won’t.

This video fails to mention that the religious authorities decide who can run for political office. As such, elections are meaningless in Iran.
They forgot two important institutions. Supreme National Security Council and Expediency Council. In particular, the Expediency Council is a parallel body to the Guardian Council, and many laws rejected by the Guardian Council are approved by the Expediency Council. It is true that the members of the Expediency Council are appointed by the Supreme Leader, but in principle the Expediency Council is a place where the Supreme Leader engages people with an angle to the system to prevent possible blows to the system.

I think it's really cool and interesting, as an American. It's a democracy checked by religion, making it 10x more 'free' than our "allies and partners in the region," plus I've learned that average Iranians actually like Americans a lot, they like everyone. I did a report on Iran's government in high school where we had to research 3 foreign governments and present on them. In theory it's not a bad system; there is will of the people but it's checked by moral values. The people having the vote and complete control over issues doesn't always end well; the people aren't usually very educated.
obviously biased not facts. Western powers is longing for the eradication of the Islamic republic. Look what they did to Iraq, Libya. Iran won't be fooled 🇮🇷❤

No it's a combination of an elective meritocratic theocracy and a representitive Islamic democracy combined together but people choose both of the representitives after qualification for competence and pity are done.
The only difference is that the theocratic leader is lifetime elected and the president is elected for 4 years but both of them can be resigned by the people, the meritocratic theocrats council and the peoples representitives if the majority of them were against their leadership.
Har har har. A few protesters complaining, even if it was 10% of the population, does not determine how things should go. France has protests like Iran too, why don't we encourage revolution over there? Right now even Israel has these protests.

Parliament members and the presidency candidates first elected by the guardian council ( shoraye neghahban) and THEN people can choose between those elected candidates in the hands of guardian council! Therefore there is no free election. In the system of this totalrioum regime there is no free political party exist. You as an Iranian should believe the leader as a leader who has total power and you as a member of this political system without any questions you should follow his orders in every level of this society. If not then this system will put you aside and even if this member of political system complain about the decisions of the leader, then you should explain it to the security force and if still you stay on your point, then you will land in the jail or worse you can lose your life. There is not even limited freedom in this society and the security force they involve themselves in every level of the life of the people in Iran, Even how you choose your clothes to wear till your religion and etc.
