    😊 ABOUT
Howdy! My name is Scott. In 2017, I was unhappy with a traditional house (aka, storage unit) and a long Chicago commute. In 2018, I reinvented my life which included buying a Winnebago Travato GL Camper Van. In February 2019, I chose full-time travel in my Class B RV for five years. Now, I take trips of days, weeks, or months and share those experiences to help others achieve their travel dreams more quickly and more fully. Thanks for watching and being part of our Go Small. Scott, I’ve been watching you since 2019. Don’t change a thing. You have one of the best channels on UA-cam.
Everyone I talk to that has a B Van watches you. Everyone loves your content. You present it excellently.
All the content creators are stuck with slow growth. The boom of RVing is over. But the fun is not.

Scott it was great to meet you in person at the Roadtrek 50th Anniversary Rally. I found your channel last Spring after buying my “new to me” Roadtrek. My 🚐 has allowed me to explore and hike extensively, all over Canada (planning US trips in the future), which in turn has done wonders in helping me control my (sometimes severe) depression. I know you rely on this channel as part of your “job”, but I think putting too much emphasis on the number of followers just adds stress to life.
Keep great content coming and we’ll keep watching.

My planned RV purchase failed my cost/benefit analysis so I'm going to be looping through Arizona and New Mexico next month in my little pickup truck stuffed full of camera gear, a computer, a two-suiter, my National Parks Lifetime Pass, and a cooler full of vegetable juice, sodas, and sandwiches. I'll be staying at four funky little 3-star hotels (two of them within a block of local rail transit stations) for less than $120/night over the course of 10 days. I think this fits within your conception of Compact Travel? I hope so, because that's a groovy name for it!

I was with you since the beginning when you first got your van! I feel like we’re friends even though we’ve never met. I just know I could sit down and have a great conversation with you about travel and I too have quite a passion for it in all forms. I just spent a month hitting some national parks in Wyoming and the main thing I feel is I can’t wait to come back out here and explore more. Two of the best learning experiences I had was visiting Heart Mountain and Wind River Horse Sanctuary. Since both places amazed me, I follow up with audible books about what I have seen while I drive. Anyway, I love your style on the channel and I’ve learned and applied info from it. It encouraged me to get to get my Winnebago Solis in 21 and so glad I did. I love visiting the national parks in a small van that I can maneuver like a car I wish you spent more time on the West Coast! I think opening up your channel to all forms of travel is a great idea!

No apology necessary, providing info on this channel is a job for you, and some people work for the same company their entire career, but many more change jobs and some change more than once. People need change sometime and there is nothing wrong with that. What ever info you present I am sure it will be good. I think you helped alot of people looking to buy a camper van by pointing and comparing different features on the vans. I looked at two vans based on your videos. Winneabago Travato and the Coachman Nova. Stay true to yourself.

Hi Scott, I’ve been a subscriber for a few months now, watching your van reviews and such. They have been very helpful. My husband and I will be buying next spring either a Winnebago Solis 59PX or an Ekko 22a. We’ve still got 8 months to figure it out. Within the next few years, once I retire at 65, we will be full time vanlifers, so it’s really important to get the right one for us. I look forward to following you on UA-cam and however you take the channel is a-okay with me. You seem like a great guy, look alot like my dad who passed away when he was 47, and seem very honest and caring. Peace out to you as well. ✌️♥️

I think the emphasis on the “business” of UA-cam and referring to us as customers is off-putting. We are watching you live your best life, and we are your friends. If you stop worrying about views and just enjoy the journey, you’ll be happier.

I somewhat agree. I apologize for playing internet shrink, but…
You seem to have an inner struggle between the business of UA-cam (eg views, subscriptions and content) vs. your mental health.
I’ve never met you (hope to someday), but I think you need to focus on your mental health. Don’t know you well enough, but what I figured out recently is that van life is very “bimodal”, there are times together in a group where we’re sharing with our “people” and then there are lonely times. Times where we’re alone in our vans and it feels very isolating.
I think recent life events may have highlighted the importance of relationships. So maybe figure out how to build stronger relationships with your SO and other #vanlifers in the real world.
And then let the views and the likes and the content take care of itself.
I’d also recommend reaching out to folks you’d like to emulate. Hear their struggles and journeys.
I know you talk about expanding content. But even Kevin (30 and a Wake-up) just seems to focus on one thing at a time. My concern is that without organization and expectations, it’ll be hard to create content for your broader audience.
In the end, I think the issue is you have to figure out what you want and then worry about what the viewers/algorithm wants.
One other thought is to “guest host” on other channels to get access to different audiences/content creator styles. Maybe you’ll learn something that sparks new energy for your channel?

We have enjoyed your videos. You are the reason we chose Embassy to build our van, best decision we made in Van life so far. As far as UA-cam goes, once we moved past being new the content became less relevant but we still watch each video, and enjoy the WuW the most and the community you have built is your biggest achievement so far. And you’re fun to hang with, Bisbee was great. In my short time doing UA-cam videos and getting a look behind the curtain, it’s easy to become a slave to it and I’m decided I don’t like what it elevates negative fear based videos the most. I won’t continue to make videos and use it as a platform for long form videos. Keep it up beat and optimistic, you will get less views but a larger quality community. Just my opinion 🤷‍♂️.

Scott… I’ve followed you since August of 2019… that’s FIVE YEARS for anyone counting!
You introduced me to the Embassy and Terry Minix, you encouraged me to make my channel more than just a personal one “for family only”, and in all that time, I’ve seen you grow your own channel to over 40 thousand members. That is an amazing accomplishment.
If I am any indication, you have transformed lives, giving people hope and positivity, and a path to follow towards their own happiness.
Your videos are thoughtful, insightful, and just plain entertaining, and you have been open with your struggles, having gained a loyal following.
You are not an influencer, at least not the marketing kind that tries to sell unnecessary products and services. Instead, you are a trustworthy “inspirer”, one that provides the information for others to make their own informed decisions and the motivation to explore and discover their own path.
Keep up the good work and know you are on your own path of discovery.
    Be seeing you!

I’ve been watching you since I started looking into Class B vans and RV travel. Love your travel videos and Embassy interviews and reviews. I came so close to ordering one, but was looking for a bit more space and the wait time was too long for me. I was also looking at the Travato, but with my wife and I, I again was looking for something a bit larger.
Now all that said, I have. Even watching for years enjoying the places you travel and the people you meet and the tips and tricks etc etc. I have learned much.
I really enjoy watching because you’re a great person, traveling to great places, meeting great people. Great content as well.

Scott, the channel kind of lost me when the emphasis on van floorplan tours took an increase. These videos are incredibly important to someone purchasing a new van every year, but that’s not us. I love the videos involving travel on small, quiet, “non interstate” highways and roads, and the towns and people that enrich our travels. Moving away from van and/or RV travel may or may not be an answer to increasing channel engagement.

I just got interested in a van last fall when my son said "you're getting too old to be backing up your small camper. Look at vans." In my looking, I found your channel. I especially needed your Tampa RV show videos. I felt I was at the show and it really helped me narrow down my search. After I bought my Travato 59G, I saw that you had a boat load of how to videos and I really have found them useful. You have the makings of a video book for wannabes and new owners. I think there is real value in your 700 video library. Every time I look I find something useful. The trick is getting me and others to look. I don't mind your enthusiasm for van life (or really, small RVs) in your videos. You show that it's possible for 2 to 4 people to get along nicely in something smaller than a 5th wheel. I know from trying to make my own videos that shooting material is only a small part and editing is most of the job.

Already subscribed. Love Joe & Kait. They are really good folks.
Enjoy you (met at GNR, pre-covid) and your journeys, just as we have enjoyed our many full-time years in our ‘19GL (46 states, well into six-figure mileage). It is hard to maintain a fresh energy for full-time vanlife as it demands a very intentional way of being and navigating each day. Adding the workload of vanlife creator to that in a solo travel mode - it’s impressive you haven’t taken a break sooner!!
This past year, I pushed for us to have our own home base again. And now we do.
I simply wanted to be able to go home, be near our family, develop daily community, have healthy workout routines rain or shine, have a garden, play piano, etc. We will still meander. We love the Travato Nation. But I know I had to re-balance. I think that’s healthy to take stock of how things are going or not going and act on that to find peace of mind.
Safe travels through life no matter the vehicle or the miles.

Wow, an inspiring video. Its interesting - to think. UA-cam is giving way to other mediums (insta, etc.) but I love long form videos (being over 40). I loath 30 second video reels and I prefer to listen to thoughtful, in depth reviews. I sub'd today (9/28) and Im planning to join your wed live stream. Thank you for your honesty

Sounds like you’ve experienced an eventful year. Self reflection is always a good thing. I’ve enjoyed watching you over the past few years. I’m sorry you felt sad and somewhat disjointed. Seems you’ve found your way back and that makes it all worth the journey. Peace. ☮️

Hey Scott. Glad to hear you're in a better state of mind after your break. I've been following since the beginning. Our means of travel is with a travel trailer but I still enjoy your content and never felt you were an asshole about the van being the only way to go. Look forward to more content. Thanks.

Good to see you Scott. As you know, I'm an OG follower. I stopped watching mostly because the "Van Life" is very expensive and we just could not get there. Loved your adventures but just lost interest. I've been on the road now for 2 years myself and pulling a travel trailer. Happy with the program so far. Lots of "room". Wish I could help you with some ideas but honestly I've got nothing. I think its a "van thing" lol Good luck Scott and I'll be here watching.

I have been a watcher since around 2020. But I have re watched many of the past videos several times. They have been informative.
There are different reasons why people get into watching the vast amount of UA-cam videos. I like automotive things and van builds. I'm not too interested in the travel part. And sometimes I get into the creator's. Could be a couple or a single person. Their personality is striking to me. George of Humble Road has good content as well as Patrick on New Jersey Outdoor Adventure.

Most, if not all UA-cam channels these days are failing. I mean no disrespect but how does one, and many have rely on this income. I read all the time about UA-cam burnout, understand that a 40hrs work week is the standard, and it burns many of us out. UA-cam is technology, here today and gone tomorrow. As a source of extra income it’s great. As your only source of income is IMO foolish.

The opinion of a full time van traveler is all I have to offer and I have no interest in travel by means other than a vehicle. Do what you have to do to feed the algorithm but back packing flying and hiking aren’t of any interest to me. I wish you well from my van traveling through South America ( PS: not exactly popular among my fellow Americans to see South America from a Promaster. Don’t you don’t do it to increase your audience!).

We have camped somewhat for our adult life, My wife and I are retired. We have had 12 RVs. We started in a l972 Ford Chateau Van. I dad put a bed in the back. After my Dad passed away, It was our first vehicle. We gone on to many Rvs but I have watched you and I have been wanting to get back to a Van. We pull a Rockwood 24 foot Trailer now with a Tundra. I wanted to come to see you in Dade City last year but as you know, it rained and rained. I like your style, you are very easy to listen to, you are nice and you dont bragg like some utubers. We will meet you one day. Appreciate your video today Thanks. God Bless. Charley and Laura, Ocala. fl.

There are so many channels on van life...seems the successful ones tens to focus on living in the van, fixing issues, how do they survive money wise, unique places of a wild hot spring, something weird and wonderful in their travels. I find the ones that are more travel focused reach a number and stay there...probably because there are so many of these channels, each with a certain taste of travel. People like to live through a channel that they can relate too, to entertain them, and maybe even to give them hope they can do the same.......

I look forward to whatever direction you take your channel. I think there’s a focus on rig comparisons on UA-cam because it can take years of dreaming and saving to make that first step into RVing. So viewer count is probably highest on those. (It’s where I am now.) But eventually, we’ve seen all the comparisons we need from westfalia to storyteller, so it’s time for the next step.
I’d love to see videos about dealing with whatever limitations any rig has, customizations, destinations, inexpensive camping spots, calm retreats and meetups.
I can’t get my rig for another year and a half, but until then, I’ll be RVing vicariously through your channel. I hope to get to meet you one day, no matter what brand of rig I eventually settle on.

My apologies. Feel free to delete my comment. Or I can delete it.
I’ve listened to the podcast. I had no idea how much time you had to spend creating content. It sounds exhausting.
As someone who has had significant burnout several times in my career (and is also currently in that state) I get it.
I can’t retire any time soon, so I’m doing everything I can to lower my stress and recover. I have to hang in there!
There’s so much beauty in this world that I don’t want to stay frazzled and unable to enjoy it. No one can live just to provide for and please others.
Good luck to you and may you rediscover joy in travel and adventure. If you post less content, that’s cool. It’s all good.

Growth is what it’s all about.
The van is just a tool, a metaphor, that enables us to literally, but more importantly, mindfully, pivot. Being flexible and open to change is the name of the game.
Thanks, Scott, for being vulnerable, for being you.
