  • MICHAEL JACKSON, known to many as "The Beer Hunter," nearly single-handedly saved Belgian craft beer from extinction and led the U.S. out of the Bud-guzzling dark ages of the 1970's.
He was the most famous beer writer and beer advocate in the world, with over two dozen published books, countless articles, and his own television series, "The Beer Hunter."
On August 7th, 2007, Daniel Shelton interviewed Michael Jackson at his home in London, England. They discussed Michael's writings, his childhood, early years in journalism, his long battle with Parkinson's disease, and his plans for the future. Unfortunately this was the last interview Jackson did, he passed away three weeks later at his home on August 30th.
This interview has been cut in long takes, so as to truly experience what it was like to talk with Michael, and his many "digressions."
Two of my favorite quotes from this interview are:
"I'm very proud of that book (Great Beers of Belgium), I'm proud of lots of things I've done. I guess you should be proud off everything, because if you're not proud of it, I guess you're fucked up."
"I never was the cuddly pussycat, that people sometimes depicted me as..."

What a great video. Thanks for posting! It was sad watching this knowing how close he was to his death though.

...his series "The Beer Hunter taught me most of what I know about beer...I only began drinking/liking in in Aug of '89 3 months before my 40th birthday...the series co-ordinated nicely with my burgeoning interest & liking of beer...my tongue was never ruined by drinking insipid crap form A/B, MIller, etc...

This is a great interview. It's humanizing and personal, unlike the 3 minutes that Conan O'Brien gave him on TV, asking whether he was drunk already.

Thanks for posting this! It was a great insight into his mind. No matter what state he was in he was clear minded! I would listen to him day in and out!

He would be in awe of how the beer scene is now. Anyone who knows about beer has heard of Michael Jackson.
