    Great Video mate and an impressive software. If you turn off the modules it won’t make any changes to the images other than NR, so you could then layer two files in photoshop and bring back some detail into the bird if need be. This also solves the problem where dxo sometimes over sharpens the image. With the modules turned off that doesn’t happen either

    Excellent video - with some beautiful images too - Ive been using PureRaw2 for about a month and its amazing, Im also going back through my old RAWs from other Canon bodies such as the 350D from 2006, also the 40D and 80D and reprocessing them with great results. Something I dont think was mentioned is that it enables you to not only push your ISO up without worrying about noise but it also allows for much faster shutter speeds as well - which are needed on my present camera the EOS 90D and its very large files on a crop sensor which is great for tight cropping.
    Ive been getting great shots of the sparrows and starlings wings frozen as they visit my bird feeder - which is all I get in Manchester UK (birds not feeders) - by being able to use ISO 6400 and 1/5000 shutter speed. Thank you for a really interesting video mate.

    I've been using the full program from which PureRAW was pulled out to sell on its own - DxO PhotoLab. It's their competitor to Lightroom, though it can work with Lightroom the same way as PureRAW, by sending its output to Lighroom as a DNG, but it has many more features, including lots of image-refining modules to improve clarity and geometric distortion. I frequently send its output into Lightroom, but sometimes just have it write out an processed JPEG to share.

    Great video Duade. I am convinced after watching your video. Thanks also for the link to Sean Bagshaw and PhotoJoseph. I was quite surprised at the amount of noise in my Canon R5 images and I now understand that this is is function of the high pixel count. Tried Lightroom noise reduction, NIK Dfine and Canon DPP all with mixed results. So I am now keen to get DXO Pure raw. If I can get anything like the results you are achieving as well as Sean Bagshaw then I will be overjoyed.

    What software programs or plug-ins are good for scanned film images? You can scan (digitize) old negatives and slides to re-use them in the modern online/digital age. But scanned/film images look _different_ to digital files. They are routinely more noisy _('grainy'),_ even with low ISO films. I'd love to clean them up so they resemble modern DLSR and mirrorless files. Any ideas, viewers?

    DXO and Topaz both seem to work okay. It looks like Topaz causes less change and makes a processed image that is more true to the original, but it seems that DXO is simpler, and the changes can be restored with a little more editing. DXO's changes do not offend. Thanks for this video!

    Great video, thanks. I bought Topaz after you reviewed it in the previous denoise video but after a quick test today I think I might also get DXO PureRAW. I like the way DXO can use my camera profile to correct the image as well as dealing with the noise. I'm not so keen on the slight colour shift, but that can be correct back in Lightroom or Photoshop. What I have found interesting is doing the initial processing of the RAW image in DXO first and then applying a gentle denoise in Topaz works well. I've only processed a few test shots of my cat this way (R6 + Sigma 150-600 Sport @ 500mm), but it seems you can get DXO to do the initial heavy lifting and then get rid of any residual noise in Topaz. If you are gentle with the amount of denoising in Topaz the final image can look even better than with DXO alone.

      @@Duade I think this (Topaz Denoise) will be very useful, but so far, I'm very unhappy with Topaz denoise. Maybe I have a system problem, but right now it goes into an endless process in which it says "processing" but after over 30 minutes isn't doing anything. The tiff file shows up in lightroom, but is in no way improved from the original RAW file. I'll do the usual, restart/reboot, but this is disappointing. Not your fault, of course, but I didn't have anyone else to listen to my complaint. Sorry 'bout that.

      @kevins8575 3 роки тому

      After two restarts (?!), Topaz Denoise is now working! Yea! It's doing a better job in my side-by-side comparisons with Lightroom - equal or better noise reduction but with better sharpness. I suspect Adobe will catch up or even leapfrog Topaz, but for now, I'm happy and am busily rescuing some older, noisier images. And I've bumped up my R5 to 51K! Thanks for convincing me!

The file was taken at 3200 and not only had a load of noise, but banding. DxO was much better than Topaz and completely removed the noise and banding. Also, I will go back to the recent video you did on the Tamron 150-600 lens and add another comment. I see you used it in some of these photos. I forgot to mention that when I use this lens on my Canon 5D IV I turn off the lens aberration setting. It seems to help lens performance. I don’t know why it helps. I also don’t know if this same setting would apply to R6 and R5 cameras.

    As per usual, great information delivered so well. Question if I may? Can you bring the noise reduced file into lightroom and blend it with the original file so as to keep the subject untouched but utilize the noise reduced background, ie, having your cake and eat it?

    • @Duade
      @Duade  2 роки тому +2

      G'day Peter, what you are describing can be done in photoshop using masks. This is what I do to apply NR to the background only. You can also do this with Topaz Denoise masks, you can mask out the subject which should then bring that file back to Lightroom. With DXO PureRAW you would have to use photoshop I think. Cheers, Duade

    Hi, Trouble is where do you stop? I have Topaz DeNoise and as you say works well, I also have On1 photo RAW 2021 and although ON1 have launched there new noise app NoNoise it will be available in the upgrade to ON1 photo RAW 2022 so silly to buy the stand alone option, I tried DXO Pureraw trial and found it to over process the images (mentioned to Jan Wegener on his video and he said turn of the auto camera profile) as I stated at the start "Where do you stop" no doubt someone out there will come up with a better option for noise reduction in a few months. I tried DxO Pureraw and for me the images looks too artificial especially in the fury/feathery parts. Topaz is worst, EXCEPT the RAW method which do an amazing job when you use it in the standalone program, the other methods like Standard, Clean, Severe Noise are too artificial to my taste. The bad sides of Topaz is the horrible workflow and it alter the colors and exposure of the original, but it can be easily fixed. HOWEVER, all things considered, my findings were mostly done on photos around ISO 6400 crop sensors. I am not sure how it would perform with higher ISO.

      John, I don't think you are able to crop a RAW file, some cameras do offer a slightly lower quality Raw file, on Canon its CRAW, I think Sony also does a compressed RAW file. These may help. My R6 files take around 15 seconds and the R5 close to 30 seconds on my PC. Cheers, Duade
