My mom kept my dad’s last name so that we all (4kids) had the same last name while we were still of school age. It was a sad break up but he took care of her in alimony and child support. She asked him if she could keep it for ease and not wanting to pay to change it. He agreed. She didn’t change it until she remarried and we were all in our early 20s. So I don’t judge kev’s ex for this. It happens everyday. She originally helped write all of Kev’s old jokes in the beginning before all of his fame and is rumored to be pretty damn funny. Kev did her dirty. Katt’ll make sure to pay her for her work, at least. Good on her.

Also to Torie keeping her last name. You can ask most married women getting your name changed is not an overnight process. You literally have to change everything. Every document, license, passport, even credit/debit card has to be changed. On top of that (like mentioned) your kids have that same name. It’s honestly easier just to keep the last name then have to change everything back. But men don’t have to worry about any of that.
Not to mention that if you have school-aged children, everyone has a heightened level of suspicion that your last name doesn’t match your child’s last name.

So Torrei Hart (BEFORE marrying Kevin) was an actress and comedian. She's also an executive producer, a writer, and actress in comedy sketches for Pretty Funny Fish Productions. SHE CO-WROTE some of Kevin's early comedy sketches, helping him get where he is. On her own, she deserves to be on the tour. Yes, who she was married to will get her more attention on this tour, but she definitely has the chops all on her own. Just saying. Put some respect on HER name.
Bros, she's been doing comedy. She's actually been on several other comics tours because she's a comedian herself. Rumor is she was actually writing some of Kev's material back in the day which considering how long she's been in the game is believable. He doesn't have a problem with it and actually and said he hopes the tour does well.
What I love is how people were talking about how bat shit crazy Katt was 10 to 12 years ago for some of his shenanigans. And that's a good point, it's the laziness. Many series have diverse casting, such as Avatar the Last Airbender, Arcane, Into/Across the Spiderverse and Teen Titans. They focus on characters first and add the details (gender, orientation etc) after. Woke Hollywood is so lazy they put the details first and scramble to put in a 2 dimensional character trope. Toph, Azula, and Katara are all "strong women" but in 3 different ways and they're personalities come first. Toph is a thug/brute character (despite being a blind 12 year old), Azula is a menace (the 2nd deadliest person in the series) and Katara is pretty strong (despite coming across as the mother of the group. She actually had to fight actual sexism to help Aang battle). All this to say, Mary Sues and Black men in dresses are extremely lazy. Only A24 and more niche genres actually care about characters and good writing.

There's nothing weird about Torrei keeping Kevin's last name. She was doing comedy as an up and comer around the same time Kevin was doing comedy as an up and comer. She might not be nearly as famous as Kevin, but she built whatever professional reputation she has in the comedy scene as Torrei Hart, and changing that name after a divorce would be stupid for recognition sake, but also if she belongs to any Writers or Actors Guilds in Hollywood. There are so many women in the entertainment industry who kept their married name after divorce for that exact reason (i.e. Demi Moore, Phylicia Rashad, Tina Turner, Kris Jenner, Susan Sarandon, etc.) and retain their ex's surname even AFTER they get remarried. Name changes are definitely a hassle. I had a full name change and it took 8months to go into affect and almost 1year after that change to get all my names changed institutionally (social security, dmv, etc). On top of that it cost upwards of $500+(which may be a lot for some) to get it completely finished. Then add on top of that credit cards, employment, taxes, school, memberships, etc that you ALSO have to change? Its a hassle.

I divorced my ex husband in 2002 and it cost me a grand to change everything back to my maiden name. We didn't have anything together. When the judge ask me if I wanted to keep his last name, I replied I don't want anything that is attached with this man. The jude was shookth and my ex husband dropped his head and start crying. I had to work two days of overtime to get that money. It was a hassle but I wanted no parts of him.

It’s common for divorced mothers to keep the last name so it’s the same as their kids. It makes a lot of common transactions related to the kids easier, including dealing with the schools.
That, and typically when a woman gets married, her name changes anyway. So why change it back, just to have it changed again if she marries someone else?
I used to think women keeping the last name was weird. But then I became a mother and experienced how the world treats you when you have a different name to your kid. Was traveling through LA from Mexico to the UK, just me and my son, and still had my maiden name on my passport. They singled me and my 2 year old son out for a search. Watching a strange man pat down my baby like he was a drug mule was so confronting. So I kept my ex's last name for my son. Now I see the whole last name thing as disgusting. That it's normalized for women to be excluded from the family name of their children when marriage goes wrong. If I could do it all over I would have given my son both names.

I asked her why she did it and she said most people who met her in adulthood know her as Mrs. Such-and-such rather than Miss Her-maiden-name. People who knew her since childhood call her by her pet name. And she said she already went through the trouble of changing her name on legal documents when she just got married and she didn't want to do that again😂 . I notice that many women who marry multiple times keep their first husband's last name.

keeping the same last name as a mother makes perfect sense because it causes less trouble when you’re dealing with matters pertaining to your children. My uncle actually wanted his abusive ex wife who has custody to keep his last name precisely because of this reason.
When you get married, you have to go through the whole name changing process; you need to have your documents like the marriage license, sometimes your birth certificate (which have to be the original or certified copy) for the new social security card, new ID/license, new passport; but don't forget to update the bank, insurance companies, your employer etc. Once you change it once, most do not want to go through that whole process again.

It's really not weird at all to keep someone's last name after a divorce, especially if you already have kids with them. "Why is mom's last name different?" is a goofy question a lot of people avoid. My mom made the same choice.

My mom kept my dad’s last name so that we all (4kids) had the same last name while we were still of school age. It was a sad break up but he took care of her in alimony and child support. She asked him if she could keep it for ease and not wanting to pay to change it. He agreed. She didn’t change it until she remarried and we were all in our early 20s. So I don’t judge kev’s ex for this. It happens everyday.

And that's a good point, it's the laziness. Many series have diverse casting, such as Avatar the Last Airbender, Arcane, Into/Across the Spiderverse and Teen Titans. They focus on characters first and add the details (gender, orientation etc) after. Woke Hollywood is so lazy they put the details first and scramble to put in a 2 dimensional character trope.
Toph, Azula, and Katara are all "strong women" but in 3 different ways and they're personalities come first. Toph is a thug/brute character (despite being a blind 12 year old), Azula is a menace (the 2nd deadliest person in the series) and Katara is pretty strong (despite coming across as the mother of the group. She actually had to fight actual sexism to help Aang battle).
All this to say, Mary Sues and Black men in dresses are extremely lazy. Only A24 and more niche genres actually care about characters and good writing.

There's nothing weird about Torrei keeping Kevin's last name. She was doing comedy as an up and comer around the same time Kevin was doing comedy as an up and comer. She might not be nearly as famous as Kevin, but she built whatever professional reputation she has in the comedy scene as Torrei Hart, and changing that name after a divorce would be stupid for recognition sake, but also if she belongs to any Writers or Actors Guilds in Hollywood. There are so many women in the entertainment industry who kept their married name after divorce for that exact reason (i.e. Demi Moore, Phylicia Rashad, Tina Turner, Kris Jenner, Susan Sarandon, etc.) and retain their ex's surname even AFTER they get remarried. It's just as much theirs now.

Name changes are definitely a hassle. I had a full name change and it took 8months to go into affect and almost 1year after that change to get all my names changed institutionally (social security, dmv, etc). On top of that it cost upwards of $500+(which may be a lot for some) to get it completely finished. Then add on top of that credit cards, employment, taxes, school, memberships, etc that you ALSO have to change? Its a hassle.

I divorced my ex husband in 2002 and it cost me a grand to change everything back to my maiden name. We didn't have anything together. When the judge ask me if I wanted to keep his last name, I replied I don't want anything that is attached with this man. The jude was shookth and my ex husband dropped his head and start crying. I had to work two days of overtime to get that money. It was a hassle but I wanted no parts of him.
It is such a pain in the ass. Every bill/license/insurance paperwork/work documents/SS card. Shit is annoying as hell. If it was as simple as some think...many of us would have changed it.

It’s common for divorced mothers to keep the last name so it’s the same as their kids. It makes a lot of common transactions related to the kids easier, including dealing with the schools.
That, and typically when a woman gets married, her name changes anyway.
So why change it back, just to have it changed again if she marries someone else?
And the children get asked less questions.
I used to think women keeping the last name was weird. But then I became a mother and experienced how the world treats you when you have a different name to your kid. Was traveling through LA from Mexico to the UK, just me and my son, and still had my maiden name on my passport. They singled me and my 2 year old son out for a search. Watching a strange man pat down my baby like he was a drug mule was so confronting. So I kept my ex's last name for my son. Now I see the whole last name thing as disgusting. That it's normalized for women to be excluded from the family name of their children when marriage goes wrong. If I could do it all over I would have given my son both names.

There's nothing weird with keeping your ex's last name. My mother did the same. I asked her why she did it and she said most people who met her in adulthood know her as Mrs. Such-and-such rather than Miss Her-maiden-name. People who knew her since childhood call her by her pet name. And she said she already went through the trouble of changing her name on legal documents when she just got married and she didn't want to do that again😂 . I notice that many women who marry multiple times keep their first husband's last name.

While it might be just a name to some people... To others it's a sense of connection and belonging. I can see why she kept the name for her kids.

My Mom had a smart idea, she made HER last name another middle name and then the last name became my Dad’s. After separating, they just had to take out the new last name and leave everything else the same. Took her maybe a month in total to get it all changed.

Some people (like me) just don't want to deal with the hassle of changing our surnames again and updating all our info on passports, banks and other legal documents. My mom is the same, still has her deceased husband's surname.

keeping the same last name as a mother makes perfect sense because it causes less trouble when you’re dealing with matters pertaining to your children. My uncle actually wanted his abusive ex wife who has custody to keep his last name precisely because of this reason.
When you get married, you have to go through the whole name changing process; you need to have your documents like the marriage license, sometimes your birth certificate (which have to be the original or certified copy) for the new social security card, new ID/license, new passport; but don't forget to update the bank, insurance companies, your employer etc. Once you change it once, most do not want to go through that whole process again.

Honestly people are way to obsessed with names in general. I have like 6 different names I use throughout various legal documents just because it was easier at the time I made them. Names don't mean shit, this isn't the medieval age where your name is your entire identity. Honestly it's kinda weird we expect people to take their partners last name anyway, it's a nice gesture and all but it's just a name, if I want to make my name Gooby Funky I'm going to do it and there's nothing you can do but cry about it.
A friend of mine kept her husband's last name and they have no kids. They divorced over 15 years ago.
Where I'm from, it's also a Uber hassle to change all your docs to bear a name you already changed from when you got married.
She wrote a lot of Kevs earlier material, she basically was already halfway in the industry and used her connections and talents to build the “Hart” name/brand! So understandable about keeping the name, and hitting the road

This is unfortunately something very common done by conspiracy theorists. They take one, valid and provable conspiracy (in this case the joke stealing) and then spring board it into insane stories with the only source being "Wasn't I right before?". It's like someone accusing you of being gay when you're a kid, like what are you suppose to do release a sex tape with a women to prove you're not? My mom kept my dads last name too. I never thought it was weird until i got older and started getting into serious relationships and she'd judge them. She'd say things like "she'll never be a Correa." Im cool with my mom til this day, but in those moments i'd just think... you're not even a real "Correa" 😂.
