So much of WotC's wording in the article feels as though they're mocking people like me who yearn for the days of old modern. Don't get me wrong, I'm unbelievably happy to see Twin return after all these years, but it genuinely feels like they're doing this as an act of desperation. I'll admit I haven't kept up with the scene in a while now, but it just does not seem like they wanted to make these unbans. The part that stands out the most to me is definitely "Did we make Modern a better place? Can we handle a wave of nostalgic and infamous cards to reenter Modern? Was there something we released that's making Modern less fun? Only time will tell, so let's get into it!" It just comes across as incredibly facetious and reads like the SpongeBob chicken meme. Maybe I'm just burnt on the design choices and decisions they've been making that have driven away me and my local community the past few years and taking what is genuinely light-hearted banter as a slight is a byproduct of that, but I digress. I agree that I can't see Twin in this new age being the tier 1 menace of yesterday, but I can definitely see it putting up enough results to at least have a presence if nothing else due to sheer popularity and love for the deck. I'd love to be wrong and see a world where it's a top performer though. Also excited to see what Looting brings back into the limelight.
I pretty much only play casual formats (EDH & Limited) but have enjoyed listening to your videos as a way to learn more about other formats. Your passion for modern and pauper is a lot of fun. Thank you!
What makes me nervous about Splinter Twin coming back into the format is that it gains access to a few new card that it didn't have in the past, namely Vexing Bauble and Teferi, Time Raveler. All those "free" ways to shut down Twin mean nothing when you can never cast your answer. It'll be interesting to see what counter plays will arise against twin but twin looks positioned really well right now.
@@WilliamAcosta-fs8ct You have to have the mana up to use it and that is one of the big things about twin that makes it scary, they cast their three drop at the end of your turn and tap one of your lands before they untap and cast twin for the win, meaning you have to have three mana sources untapped otherwise you're going to be a mana short from playing Boseiju.
Orcish Bowmasters is a perfectly fair magic card and nothing will change my mind. I am glad it is in the format because it is reasonable on its own and helps counter certain strategies from going bananas. I said it before ill say it again: if you cant deal with a 1/1, theres something wrong with your deck building
Another problem is that once you can deal with it the damage is already done, e.g. when used in response to you drawing cards and not having an istant answer up. In its core its a fair card, just insanely pushed, like most of the horizons stuff
Ok so they unbanned green sun a staple in legacy elves, so we can now tutor for craterhoof in modern elves. It’s a like they want modern elves to be like legacy elves as an all in combo deck.
Unironically, haven't played or bought MTG since they banned twin in modern. Time to dust off the old 60 card and see where the new improvements are to be made. Super excited.
Call me crazy but TOR sorta was the policeman of the format, and also benefited many strategies which simply cannot exist without it. It was problematic on its own, but I honestly think it did more good than harm to the format by slowing it down. The format will probably go back to how it was pre-MH2, which basically means that games will be decided on T2, based on who has the bigger thread in the first 2 turns or whether you have an efficient/effective answer to that threat, which IMO makes the format more shallow and less interesting
i have an argument for Phlage being better than Uro: Uro isn't play in Timeless while Phlage does. i admit it's not a strong argument because Timeless is a weird format where Oko is unplayable, combo decks can win on turn 1 with dark ritual and somehow Boros Energy is still the most played deck
We could have a hogack Situation where they first ban a card to weaken the deck (Raptor and bridge respectively) but eventually they have to ban the main card (Hogack / guide)
It's only a part of what made the deck strong, not the main reason. Guide into Ocelot Pride is crazy AF. Arena of Glory into Phlage is crazy. Ajani sac token to Goblin Bombardment is crazy.

@billlong4586 I'm really, genuinely happy for all the dredge players haha. I'm wanting to try it out in Belcher myself as a turn one "might need one less mulligan" kind of option.
@darkjak565 the mulls with dredge were much worse after looting was hit. Merchant of the vale, the adventure card that was half a looting was a mediocre replacement that you never used the creature half. If they gave us gaak back too, dredge would have been in it's prime again, 23 power turn 3 ready to swing while up 12 life from chills..ox of agonas was printed right before that and it was just NUTS. Looting is more of a graveyard based deck though, like Phoenix or dredge than a combo deck like belcher.

Wotc didn't actually fix what got Opal and Looting banned. I'm willing to be that at least one, if not both, will get banned, again, in the future. And you were doing so well until the “ban endurance” take. Endurance is one of the reasons why looting got unbanned. It checks looting style decks, specifically. Mill just needs to hold the L on this one.
I think it's also worth noting that Energy is probably still very good. I doubt you can justify running 4 Surgicals main, with 2 Extirpate, 4 Lantern, and 3 Ashioks in the sideboard, that's kind of insane ngl
12:00 I don’t like this precedent. “We only banned this card because it was really good in the best deck - despite it being used everywhere” If this is a regular occurrence from now on, it implies cards only get banned if the BEST decks use them, not if it’s grossly ubiquitous in the format. (I don’t know, this is just how I’m seeing this ban) It’s like if everyone was jumping a fence, until Timmy did a backflip and now nobody’s allowed to jump the fence
I’m only concerned about looting. Graveyard strategies responses are not common answers in the main outside of Black/Green colors. In fact, these two colors are much better at dealing with the grave than the other three by far.
