- Although this new york city apartment is quite small, at least its affordable for the manhattan location. That being said, SHOULD you rent this place? Its definitely got a few less square feet than most places, even in NYC but on the bright side, its got a dishwasher. At the end of the day anything better than this apartment costs more money, and someone’s definitely going to rent this.

Mmph... it's "cute". But, not for $4500/month. No, ma'am. No, sir! This Landlord has obviously taken leave of their senses. The place would be claustrophobic enough with just one person but two people? 911 would be on speed dial...
This is the kind of Manhattan apt that would be mind-bogglingly expensive at $1,000/mo 25 years ago. These prices are crazy. I remember listening to an interview with some old CBGBs punk bands that talked about renting practice spaces in SOHO for like $200/mo in the mid 70’s.

I don't believe I'm saying this but I think $4500 is a good price. It's small but it's 2 bedrooms in Gramercy with an in unit washer and dryer. Full amenities. The only thing I don't like is the separate entrance. I would be worried about someone hanging out back there.

Coming from Europe, there’s nothing wrong with the size if only for one person or a couple. Definitely not suitable for a roommates situation. Love the timber floors, kitchen is well setup and there’s a laundry included. So overall, could be a lovely home…. But that price is ridiculously high!
It's in New York, one of the most pathetically overpriced places on EARTH. Even 50,000 Euros a year is hardly enough to survive and have anything left to put food on the table. And one thing New York doesn't admit: the prices are driving people out. There were videos put up of entire city blocks that are shuttered because nobody can afford the criminal property taxes or mortgages. Soon, half of New York City will be a ghost town...
As someone who lives in Japan, I agree completely. This doesn't feel all that small and would be perfect for a couple. I thought at first it was just the common space and the one bedroom which would be a bit on the smaller side (though would be very great for one person - was bigger than places I've lived in anyway) but the extra bedroom in the back makes it feel a lot better. Though, for that price I'm not so sure. lol. But that's the price of living in the big city I suppose.

Love how the landlord put in that pocket door to make it a "2 bedroom" so he could jack the rent up $1000 a month. Really that was the dining/living room originally, the lone bedroom was in the back. Can't imagine sharing a place that tight with a room-mate, would be fine by yourself though, throw a couch/tv in that front room with the pocket door
Unless it has a legitimate drywalled closet on the blueprints, it can't legally be called a bedroom in most metro areas. It's a den.
Exactly. That is clearly what it was meant for. That a landlord is allowed to call this a two-bedroom is really a crime. There definitely needs to be some regulations set in place.
I think you are right. And if you turn what is called a bedroom into a din and then use the other part as a kitchen it is not a bad size place for one or a couple starting out. Of course at a price of around $4400 starting out with a good paying job. Having a roommate would be way too small of shared space.

It’s difficult to imagine paying that much to live that way. We live on 15 acres, 2000 square foot house for 900.00 a month. It’s just crazy paying that much money to live in that timely space.

If you're lucky enough to be able to afford this without a roommate the common space could be a dining room and the bedroom next to it a living room.

Looks like this was a one bedroom apt and the living room was partitioned to make a tiny 2nd bedroom. Cash should mention a sofa bed as an alternative in these wee apts. In TV reruns both Alice and Mary Tyler Moore used sofa beds to save space.

this was also my observation. Way too small for 2 ppl IMHO. But then, I have never lived nor desire to live in NYC. Rents are obscene. It appears the obscenity of NYC rent is radiating across the country. Viva Mexico lol
So cute! And I agree c Robbie Hudgens..the common space turned into a dining room and the bdrm into a living room. That's what I was thinking when I first saw it. And where a "fold out dinning table"could be..I would put a not to wide but tall bakers rack..Love all the sun light. One could turn that into a beautifull little gem!
I like how positive you are about these tiny apartments. This is one is ok but definitely not for that price.

I honestly really like this one, just the right size for one person, but the price is certainly a little steep for one person, if it's 3k I would take it and run with it.

Compared to the studio apartments where I lived during my life, this place is a palace. EXCEPT for the rent, I would live there anytime. The washer/dryer in the apt is worth a slightly higher rent, but not that much.

For a single person like me this apartment's perfect! In Manhattan, quiet and sunny, and everything's updated...but the price?! Now THAT would drive me crazy!!
Don't expect very many apartments in that crazy state to be reasonably priced. And even the ones that are lack a ton of amenities that you get for free elsewhere.

I'm beginning to wonder if I watch these videos to get a laugh. Paying so much money to be uncomfortable in a claustrophobic apartment is absolutely mind boggling. No way that tiny place can be shared with a roommate, perhaps a couple in a relationship. There's no real privacy for roommates, unless one works days, the other, nights.

@@alexiaterhark7278 Yes, I'm quite aware of that. The irony is, those same tenement buildings are still up in all the NYC boroughs, the only difference, they've been 'renovated'. Landlords are charging outrageous rents on apartments in 100+ year old buildings! An elderly relative looked up a Bushwick apartment she lived in as a young married woman, she assumed the building was knocked down. Was she surprised to learn the building was still up, the rent is now over $2000 for a small three room apartment. She paid around $50 a month!
Yes, it’s expensive for rent but that’s Manhattan. It wouldn’t be bad for a married couple but not a single person. And not enough space for roommates as well as living in the tiny areas could ruin a friendship. I own a 4300 sq. ft. house, but if I was trying to buy even my own house today, I couldn’t afford it. Prices have skyrocketed. Even noticed wall tile has gone up by 25-30% in less than a year (I remodeled a bathroom last year and was shocked that even the cost of those supplies have since gone a lot higher). It’s ridiculous!! I am especially horrified at landlords telling renters their new rent will be doubled or prepare to be evicted! Shameful. It’s going to cause more people to become homeless and more generations of a family to all live under one roof in order to survive.
So, like, a decent one bedroom carved up into a tiny two bedroom. For plus $4k. Pass.
This would be great for a well-to-do single person or a couple. The quieter bedroom could be the actual bedroom, while the bigger one would be the living room and you'd have an eat-in kitchen/diningroom. Beautiful little apartment. I love the light, and the amenities--good appliances and a washer/dryer too! It's just overpriced, but so are a lot of other less pleasant flats.
I’m pretty sure a well-to-do single person would very much rather rent a penthouse for that amount of money in a cheaper area of New York 🤣

@@kqatsi well I don’t know about a penthouse but cash once made a review of a skyscraper apartment which had a great view and even though it was a studio it was considerably big and it was 5k
For a Manhattan apt with your own laundry, A/C, enough space for a little living room, small dining area, and lots of windows for light, it’s not bad for 1 person. Rent will always be expensive in Manhattan. Back in the day, studio apts went for close to $4k/mo so $4350 is a steal for this place.
Man & I thought my rent was over priced! I pay $1400 a month for an apartment 6 times the sizes of this one in Sydney Australia.
From what I'm seeing from where I live, the U.S. is raising rents double to quadruple all over the country. Be happy you live Australia, I'm sure your gov't would do something about it if necessary.

If you weren't in it 24/7 it probably would be okay. I have a huge house with many rooms unused. I noticed I used almost exclusively the kitchen and my bedroom, which has an office area in it. I almost never watch TV, so the living room/dining room is pretty much where the cats hang out. Then two rooms that essentially hold my mother's estate items I never quite get around to dealling with. I get to heat and pay taxes on all this unused space. I may sell and get a much smaller place. I've even contemplated buying two camp trailers in different climates and dividing my time between the two.
This place is really only functional if you use that first bedroom as the living room. Otherwise, whoever gets that bedroom has to listen to whatever’s happening in the common space. Those pocket doors aren’t blocking ANY sound.
Can’t stand pocket doors. Old buildings with crap pocket doors and no sound insulation
@@paveladamek3502 It at least keeps out light and a little sound if your spouse gets up earlier than you. We have a regular door but hinged doors aren't space efficient.
@@back2the80s A lousy door is a lousy door. Pocket doors at least save useable floor and wall space. I've seen well constructed pocket doors in brownstones and pre-war spacious apartments work even better at giving more useable space...and elegantly !

My pay rate would have to increase 3.5 times to come close to paying for that. I’ve never had any aspirations of moving to NY. And seeing that rent solidified it.
One person apartment. Room off kitchen is living room and dining in what you called the common space. Bedroom closet kind of small but no money left for clothes so no problem. Pantry good and having laundry great 👍

It's close to NYU Langone Hospital. Great place for a single medical professional with long hours and hopefully a decent starting salary. Need some free standing closet storage though.
@@rjd3wine Being that close to the hospital you might hear ambulance noises all night. I have a friend who lives at 1st Ave and 23rd street near several hospitals, and hears ambulances all night long. I live in a LESS-glamorous neighborhood, but it's quiet! Yay!
@@cathynewyork7918 I have friends who live along ambulance and fire routes, they say the same! School playground noise is also something to consider in NYC especially for people working at home of retirees. I only went by the Fairway Cash showed near the apt. I've picked things up there on my way home to my reasonably quiet neighborhood on UWS.

I am not rich enough to live on the UWS like you do -- although I love that area to visit -- but I am in a neighborhood in Queens that is a very quiet, family-oriented neighborhood and not close to school playgrounds or hospitals. Close enough to get to a hospital if I need one, but not close enough to hear the ambulances roaring into their emergency entrance all night long. I am so lucky [but I wish I could live on the UWS like you do!].
Quite honestly it looks the same as dozens of other apartments you've shown. The price is just insane. In fact, it's actually just sad.

This is an amazing apartment! Washer, dryer AND dishwasher! I live in a 300 sq. ft. studio in Boston and this apartment is like my dream lol.
If you didn’t need a roommate, the 2nd bedroom off the kitchen could be used as a living room leaving a nice but small dining room. I love the area around the apartment, some of the places gave me a “Friends” vibe. Thanks for the tour!!
It would work for a married couple. The first bedroom that’s adjacent to the “common” area could become the living room and the space adjacent to the kitchen could be a dining room. Way too tiny for roommates!

Had a coworker with that setup. We worked the day shift. One day she had bad cramps so we walked her back to her apartment during lunch.

Beautiful building and good location. Great apt for a couple. Use the room adjacent to the kitchen as a dining room/office and the attached room as the living room. I'd mirror the back wall in the living room to make it look 50% bigger and bounce around that gorgeous natural light. The back room could be a quiet bedroom.

During the 1930’s, my Dad and his brother grew up in the neighborhood between the GW Bridge and HighBridge Park. He would talk about hanging out with the neighbor kids. One story was about him riding a bicycle while holding onto the back of a trolley car.
The reason for mirrors on the inside of the two medicine cabinet doors is so that when standing in front of the cabinet, you can adjust the angles of the two doors to see the side of your face/head or perhaps a little bit farther to the rear. I have that at home and use it all the time.

I get claustrophobic being in that for a weekend I couldn't imagine living in a tiny apartment plus paying $4400.00 a month for it!
A lot of people live quite happily in smaller places than that: efficiency apartments. Some love their tiny houses. They don't have a view of the Empire State Building or the diverse neighborhood, though. What I wonder is how often the fire trucks roar out with sirens blaring. My sister once lived over a fire station for a year. That was enough. :)

Lots of people live significant portions of their lives in prison cells also but that doesn't mean they are appealing.
I live in a suburb of Chicago in a six bedroom five bath home on one acre and pay less than this apartment.
I would much rather live in Lake Forest and pay $50k per year in mortgage payments than pay the same amount to live in a nicely finished prison cell and spend the same in rent.

@@williamegler8771 Chicago's Field Museum is nice. The River Walk is nice. Lincoln Park is nice, although Grand Park is rather cold. I have run the Chicago Marathon. I like old-fashioned places like Murphy's Pub. But -- still -- the NYC Marathon AND New York City itself are waaaay more exciting than Chicago!
Wait, this shoe box is $4500? Did I read that correctly? I just found a one bedroom on 59th (with dishwasher) for $1800. Did someone also rent you the Brooklyn Bridge as well? NYC is not what it was prior to the pandemic and one can find killer deals today. Y'all got swindled, bruh.

As someone who has lived in suburbia my entire life, living in any of these apartments would be a shock. I always wonder where do you put your 'stuff', it's an entire lifestyle change. I might have to stick with just being a tourist when I hit the big cities. However I do love watching, and I will never look at kitchen faucets the same way again.

It’s kinda nice actually you learn to live with a lot less! Everytime I want something new, I look in my closet to see what I can donate or sell first. And you have to grocery shop once a week because that’s all the fridge will hold, but it means you always have fresh produce
@@kendallstephens9470 my Dad always told me his ongoing life goal was to simplify his life. When I was a kid I thought it was nutty. But now, I can see it. We get used to all of our stuff being around us. When in reality we don't need most if it. Best wishes. I still like my stuff though. 😀

I so agree with you about not able to do roommates. I live way out in Queens in order to have an affordable place with lots of closets and space, instead of living in a tiny place in Manhattan. Having my own space was more important to me than living in the "hot" neighborhoods.

Crazy expensive, but the layout would be good for a single or couple. I'd turn that first bedroom into the living room (could probably squeeze a small desk in there for a home office as well), and have the common space be the dining area. Charming looking building overall.

Cash, could you possibly do a video on cost effectiveness in relation to other aspects such as transportation costs for the subway, costs that may be included in some rents like heat or internet, laundry costs both in building and laundromats, co-op maintenance fees etc? I feel like it might give people a better idea of the relative cost savings or extra expenditure required to live in certain areas that might be really helpful to people that are new to NYC.
As for the flat, I really like it but I could only tolerate it if it were just for me, rather than sharing with a flatmate. It seems extra secure with the fences and walking through the building in front to get to it. I love how sunny it is, that makes the size far more acceptable. I'm not sure how that price stacks up for using it as a one bedroom in Manhattan, but if that were a decent price, I needed to live in that area specifically and I could afford it on my own, I would happily take it if I were moving to NYC.
Sadly in NYC, NOTHING is included in the rent. Maybe heat if you are lucky.
Many NYC apartments will include heat, but you will probably pay your own electricity and Internet. My NYC apartment building includes both heat and hot water, but I have actually seen a few listings where you have to pay for your own hot water and heat -- but most include hot water. NYC landlords are not even required to supply window screens (but mine does -- I am very lucky).
The mirrors on the inside is so u can look at the back of your hair I believe is my guess .
Ya try it you open the Medicen cabinet so one side reviews the centre or side and turn yr back to one side and u will see the back of your head it’s probly more for women but maybe men to ,hahaha all the best oh I challenge u to try this in one of your videos it would be cool to watch ,lol peace
I'm in Phoenix, AZ -- I've never been to NY. I love watching your videos: these glimpses of NY life, to me, are like visiting a foreign land (chuckling!): Intriguing, and exciting & scary at the same time. Gives me ASMR :^) I was amazed to see your bike wasn't stolen! I think I could live in a tiny space, and this apartment looks solid, clean and updated. Love me a window over the kitchen sink -- it's one of the things I seek for when looking at homes for sale here in the Valley. It looks like a quite a trek if you're carrying groceries! And that rent - dayum! But that's NY, isn't it? Thank you!
you know, that extra bedroom is big enough to turn into a living room AND guest bedroom. 3-in-1 sofas are a thing, and they're pretty useful. The supposed living room can be the dining area and be an extra kitchen space for, idk, sacks of rice (I am Asian, we buy rice by the sack, not small 5-kilo bags). Or, you can turn it into an indoor garden space for your fresh herbs and stuff.

Would love to see what gets done with an apartment like this once it's rented. At that price it will probably end up as an Airbnb rental at 1k a week. We rented smaller on westend and Broadway on Airbnb for 850 a week... Mad money but if you want to live in NYC these are the struggles.

To answer your question regarding the Ferrari: no it isn't a Testarossa, it's probably a 288 GTO, which _apparently_ was produced around the same time as the Testarossa. The other difference is that the Testarossa had a longer production period (compared to the 288 GTO) which lasted to around 1995~

Definitely not a 288 GTO. Also you'd be certified crazy to actually drive a 288 GTO in Manhattan, that's like a 3 million dollar car now days. Its the much more common 328 GTS, which are still "affordable" cause they made a good number of them.

Definitely hard to survive for people just coming to New York. Us native New Yorkers, or most of us, know where to find the cheaper deals. Also, if you're good tenant landlords usually don't go up high if at all.

Great little apartment with a excellent location! Not everyone who subscribed to your Channel needs (or wants) a roommate... Even if there’s more than one bedroom. I would use that “Smaller” bedroom as my living room what you referred to as the “common space” as my dining area. I like hosting dinner parties and l don’t need (or want) a roommate.
I actually LOVE this apartment. Would not want a roommate so would make the common area the dining and a bedroom the living room.
This one gives of good vibes, still expensive though. As for the double mirror thing, my apartment got it and I find it convenient for when I need to use it after showering. The outward-facing mirrors get misty but the inside ones are perfectly clear.

I would love to find an apartment this size or a little smaller. I am used to the tiny apartments of East Asian countries (my first apartment was under 200 square feet); finding an American apartment under 500 feet is tough where I live.
Wonderfully bright, floors are really nice, too many rooms (but I guess that’s the design of older bldgs). To me, it’s a one bedroom - that’s a dinette off the kitchen and the room with sliding doors is the living room/den. It’s a two bedroom out of desperation to split the outrageous rent.
The mirrors on the inside of the vanity cabinet let you use it as your shelf (ie toothbrush toothpaste soaps you want to hide) and keeps your sink from being cluttered and you don’t have to close it when you are there (it also keeps the outer mirror much cleaner, personally I love mine)
Mirrors inside the cabinet is for when you do your hair. You can turn around and face one of the side mirrors and angle it so that you can check if your pony tail is not askew.
Very useful.
I used to have one like that and used it every day.... My hair was better styled when I had access to this three door mirrored cabinet....
Cute but $5000? You can get nicer for $5000, WAY over priced.

The mirrors inside the medicine cabinet is so you can see the back of your head to fix your hair. Useful when coloring or curling/styling your hair.

Crazy price aside, this apartment is luxurious compared to what I had in Japan. My first apartment in Tokyo consisted of 1 bathroom and 1 main sleeping/dining/living room that was 9 square meters in size. Needless to say, I was bouncing off the walls by the end of the year. LOL.
When we first moved to US my mom had an apt almost like this for her, me and my sister. She paid $45 a month for it. Amazing how high the rents are now.
I live in a small rural town and in the last year we have seen rent rates soar, going from $400 a month for a 3bd 2ba home to $1,100. We are also starting to see an increase in homeless people as well. Food prices are also going through the roof. A year ago a head of lettuce was $1 now its nearly $3. It's really sad, not to mention alarming.

These video walk thrus would've been so helpful when I got my apartment during covid. I never went inside til after leased, turns out the "gym" I was stoked about is a room with elliptical that's locked and always closed

I like this apt. If you didn’t like entertaining and just wanted a place to be with your jigsaw puzzle’s and your cat. You’d have to be very creative and nothing could be moved in unless it could serve 2 purposes. There is no place for a vacuum, linens, winter coat, etc. Yen and the art of Creative storage is your goal. Become one with IKEA.

Nice looking apartment and location. I reckon it would be suitable for a single person or couple as the 2nd bedroom could be used as the lounge. Kitchen is too small to use as a dining area as well. Price is high though and not sure if this is market price or inflated for NYC. I see no reason why the previous tenant went "mental" unless there were more then 2 people living there. love the fact that it is sunny/light and has no basement or crazy stairs!
LOL "tastes like college." I think the apartment would be okay for a couple and make one of the bedrooms into a family room. Nothing else okay about the price, though!
That's an awesome space! My first place was a studio that had no doubt been illegally created from the master bed/bath (with kitchenette added on) of the apartment next door as the access door was still in place, though sealed shut, and my one window was also my only door, the sliding glass door off the passageway!
The mirrors on the inside of the med cabinet are to see your hair and around the sides and back of you when getting ready!
I think the apt is adorable. I lived in that area, and always enjoyed it. Look at all the windows, and outside the windows you have trees, vines, turning to green in the summertime. It's like a little cottage. Could I live there? Yup, no problem. Better than yesterdays converted railroad rooms with no windows, looking like a dungeon. The couple of windows it did have, faced the building air shaft. This, on the other hand is a cheerful apt, and I really like it. Yes, the rooms are a bit small, but there's a lot of light in all those rooms. It's a great neighborhood also. Buildings in that area have always been well-maintained, that's what makes it so desirable.

Um, no. I couldn't imagine having a roommate. Period. But I also can't imagine sitting in the 'common space' and your roommate is 'going at it' on the other side of the pocket doors. Or if that roommate is sleeping and you want to watch TV and have to keep the volume down so low that you can't hear the name of the person being called to "Come on down! You're the next contestant on The Price is Right"? My one bedroom apartment is bigger than the entire apartment, and is only a fraction (1/5th) the price. No thanks!
I was expecting much smaller! That's a lovely place. It would be tight in a couple/kid situation because the common space is so small, if my son was older and wanted to spend more time alone then it would work, he could have that second room. But as a kid, I think we would take that room. The price is the only awful thing! Even living with a roommate I could do it, if it was my best friend or someone I know and like.

I've only seen delays like that in Philly when the train was stopped for hours during rush hour. And the snowstorm in March 2019. That was not fun.
Otherwise, this apartment, while small, feels cute and cozy. If I make a lot of money one day I would try living there.

I had that medicine cabinet in my last house. I was so bummed to leave it behind when we sold. The inside mirrors are for applying make up and lotions with the doors open...easy access
