My God I envy you so much you have no frigging idea man wow😮 I unfortunately could never have seen Janice in my life time being that I wasn't born till 1978 but I grew up with my dad playing her Cheap thrills album religiously my parents were big hippies lol but what I wouldn't give for a time machine Janice, The Doors, Hendrix, Otis Redding, Buddy Holly, and my most beloved Miss Patsy Cline 😢❤️ yes sir your truly truly lucky...
I’ve always liked Janis she’s always been my favorite singer but I really started likeing her when I was 14 know I’m 15 and Janis is still my favorite singer I feel connected to her I don’t understand why I just do
Saw her not long after the release of Pearl ... not a huge audience which made it quite intimate. Best part of the concert, for me at least, was when the lead guitar player's string broke (Sam Houston, I think), and he went off stage to replace it (they didn't have a rack of additional guitars back then) ... while waiting, the rest of the band, including Joplin doing some hand clapping, started an impromptu jam which continued when the "lead" returned. Just one of those unscripted moments that almost never occur in these tightly choreographed times.
She died on 4th October 1970 and Pearl was released after her death in January or February 1971. You must have been to a show before pearl was released.
@robertgvojic5077 You're absolutely right, Robert (and Mathew). The concert could not have been after Pearl's release. At the time I wrote that,⁷I must have thought that when I saw her, Pearl was out in the record stores. At the time of the concert, her band was The Full Tilt Boogie Band as opposed to Big Brother and the Holding Company. Also, I recall there was material that would ultimately be on Pearl. I loved that album when it was released ... it felt raw thanks to Joplin's raspy voice, yet it was also very polished, from a production standpoint. Cheap Thrills, on the other hand, had a rough edged garage band sound, which still holds up today (along with Pearl). Rick
* 1968, thank you Janis Joplin 🌻👒🎶

My Goddess really gets it.
She's getting it.
I made Janis into one of the icons of rock well before this performance. Her voice alone could make you shiver...
You did? Would love to hear more!
Hey, thanks for upping this performance.
Likely the best ever version of the song
"Joplin's last performance with Big Brother, not counting two reunions in 1970, was at a Family Dog benefit on December 1, 1968." wikipedia quote.
Sorry I did not grow up in her era but so grateful we have video so that we can see the genius of this woman. I relate to her on several levels.
