One of my unexpected benefits of quitting smoking was a lower gas bill in the winter. I felt warmer from better circulation so I wasn't always turning the heat up way high on the thermostat. =)

You are so right on all this. I do know how much lung damage i have/had.. Some has improved even as a smoker. But the scaring is there forever. You talk of cramps.. so true ! I had a stress test about year/half ago because of a visit to ER for short of breath, chest pain..turned out i had severe pnumonia/ bronchitis. The stress test showed my heart was as DR. said it " Pristeen" lungs, not so much. Now i have qquit smoking after 39 years, i feel so much better, so much !! my hair is/stays cleaner even. I do have uber good sence of smell tho, which is odd for food... some is blech ! ..lol..no biggie tho..... I can breath better. i sleep better, no coughing up junk. i love it !! ( i started smoke at 14. I am now 52. 53 soon !! Happy Birthday to me :)

I just decided to quit smoking, I'm 28 and developed tenitus in my ears. Since I quit I've noticed it less and less just after the last 5 days of quitting. My breathing already feels better and my back and shoulder pain has alleviated quite a bit. Who knew smoking was causing me such inflammation.

really enjoy your site and straight-talking videos. I am an on again off again smoker, who has recently quit and I am now committed to never smoking again.
the electronic cigarette craze is crazy - they administer more nicotine and they can be used without detection - which makes them more insidious.
you have to quit all nicotine if you want to be successful. My grandfather is currently dying from lung cancer.
good luck quitting and God bless...

Hi Joel. I'm feeling better today. I've noticed that the cigarettes increase the inflammation in my body. During my last labs I had for my physical it was found my white blood cell count was elevated. I was still smoking at they time.Smokers get that. It was on paper and it scared me to death. I'm excited to get the labs done again. I'm very positive.

Glad you are feeling better today. Check out the video "Does smoking cause my headaches" ua-cam.com/video/1nBiLQmCZSw/v-deo.html
Video discusses that while smoking does not cause all problems that a person may experience while being a smoker, it causes lots of them, and many problems that it does not cause it may aggravate. On the same note, quitting is not responsible for all symptoms a person may encounter after quitting. It is important to be able to understand what symptoms are related to smoking and quitting, and which are not.

Joel Spitzer yes, I agree. I am under the care of an internal medicine doc. The white blood cells have been elevated for about 3 months. I think in order to rule out the cause I have to quit smoking. There are many different causes of elevated WBC but there is a direct correlation usually between smoking and elevated WBC. It's the first time that a lab has come back weird and it scared me so much. I've stopped smoking and cleaned up my diet a lot. I've started eating garlic (raw) because it greatly reduces the chances of getting lung cancer in smokers and non smokers. Just doing a lot of different things under the care of my doctor. I wish I could find a support group close to my house. Luckily I've found your videos and other people online that are experiencing quitting.
It's crazy because I'm a speech pathologist. I've worked with people that have had laryngectomies. Taught them how to use an electro larynx. Went to their support groups. I guess I was in denial about anything happening to me, either that or my addiction was stronger than my desire to not smoke.
Do you have any videos about improved sleep after quitting?

Joel Spitzer it's crazy about her just taking the aspirin out of habit and not realizing the relationship between the smoking and headaches. Mine is energy. I've had way more energy today than before and it dawned on me that smoking was probably zapping my energy. I just dealt with being tired and not piecing it together

I smoked for 40 years, and it's been 1 year for me, i quite because i became allergic to cigs. So now i am 54 and i never really drank alcohol over the years.Never took drugs, or drank to get drunk, maybe drank once every couple of years. I would have a beer or two, maybe one mixed drink. So now i like to drink long islands, and single malt scotch. i just get tired after a few, then go to bed. My Friends that drink too much hate me.

Congratulations on your one year quit. Here are a few resource pages addressing alcohol issues after quitting smoking. It really is best not to increase its usage after quitting. The last three pages I am attaching address this issue. Hope you find these materials helpful.

Congratulations on four days Rick. As far as for money saved by quitting, check out these two pages:
      whyquit.com/joels-videos/money-wasted-on-cigarettes/
      whyquit.com/joels-videos/youre-wasting-our-money-on-cigarettes/
Also, check out the page whyquit.com/joels-videos/make-a-list-of-why-you-want-to-quit/
While money may have been your primary motivation for first starting your quit, you may find that over time other reasons will become evident and remembering them may help you to sustain your quit over the long-term. Either way though, you are going to save a lot of money by not having to support your addiction and likely save your health and your life to now making and sticking to a personal commitment to never take another puff.

Good for you Reese. There is one page that I have assembled of videos that I think can be very helpful to people first starting their quits. Going through the videos on that page will take about 90 minutes but it will be time well spent to help get the quit going and more importantly, give you the understanding that can help to make this the last quit you will ever have to go through. Here is a link to the page: whyquit.com/joels-videos/can-you-spare-about-an-hour-and-a-half-to-help-to-save-your-life/
Check it out. If you have any other questions or concerns that are not addressed on the pages then feel free to get back in touch. This can indeed be the last quit you will ever have to go through if this time you make and stick to a personal commitment to never take another puff.

I found that I would have a beer and while drinking it would sort of "hiccup". It wasn't a real hiccup like I might get on the first sip of a Coke. This I would violently regurgitate, my throat would just close and whatever was in my mouth was coming right out!
It has not happened since stopping smoking.

Check out the page whyquit.com/joels-videos/does-smoking-cause-my-headaches/. It too touches on the concept that while smoking does not cause all problems experienced by smokers, it causes many of them that often only become evident once the person quits and what were ongoing symptoms or problems all of a sudden subside or disappear.
