I just ordered the pocket one yesterday for Inktober and I was tempted to buy the gray one from this set, but after watching this video I think I'm not gonna get it since it is too dark for me. Thanks!
Nice review on these brush pens. I don't like to waste plastic refill use a syringe and filled it with Noolder's black ink, there is some kind of valve or tube in this barrel so i have to squeeze the ink in carefully. Works well so far and i may mix ink colors to see how it turns out. If they make them with clear barrels so you can see the ink color and much ink is inside would be neat. :)
I love this brush, it's not water proof but if you want to just quick sketch at public, you can carry with you one black and one of those water brush, so u draw and after you push the ink through the drawing with the water brush. It will lead a very beatiful and espontaneous shadow. Never used any color, just black.
I have the Kuretake Art-Kure brush pens which are very similar. You mentioned a video on refilling the brush pens with fountain pen ink, which is something I have wanted to try to do, and this would be very useful. I enjoy watching all your videos.
Oooh, very nice. Now that I am seriously working on value studies practice these look quick and convenient. I like the way it washes out to a gradient. I like the Pitt Artist Brush pen in black for Notans.
Looks like a lot of fun to draw with.😊 I think I'm going to get a set. Once empty I'm going to refill a black one with Platinum Carbon Ink for fountain pens
Also, thanks to your review, I also bought the Kuretake Simi, Sailor Profit, 2 different Platinum ones and waiting on the #40 to arrive. I'm trying to get ready for Inktober this year :p
Hi teoh, nice vid. I wonder if the cartridges are interchangable between models for the water based models that all appear to be the same design except for the different brush tips and sizes...ie, can I successfully replace a color cartridge in the standard pentel brush pen non color (just black dye based ink) water based model?
I got my today and wanted it to try it out but the ink didn't come out. So I thought I should put ink in there. I opened it and then the ink went out and now my fingers are black :/ but the brush doesn't work properly
Great video, Teoh! I may need to pick one of these up. Quick question for you: Just curious, do you know if it is possible to take pigment-based ink (like India Ink) and thin it out (maybe with distilled water or rubbing alcohol) so that it could be used in the capillary systems of fountain and brush pens? Any insight would be much appreciated, thank you in advance!
I have a question I just bought this brush pen how do u refill the cartridges with fountain pen ink thank u so much for this video review I really like your videos reviews 💯👍☺✌
I have not seen one but have you done a review of the different blacks of the brush pens? I recently bought a couple of different ones of the Japanese brand and a Kuretake one also but I'm not sure of the difference. on some paper the shades are a little different and on others it's the same. Thanks :)
You're supposed to buy new ink cartridges. But if you want to save money, you can refill it yourself. Check out the refilling process at ua-cam.com/video/H-Go2m85jkI/v-deo.html
+Janice Fong With watercolour, I usually use travel brushes instead of brush pens. ua-cam.com/video/3Y5v13bnLtI/v-deo.html However, I do use the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen for watercolour sometimes as the ink is waterproof.
I haven't faced any leaks yet. The ink flow is not so generous to the point that it will leak. You actually have to press the body to force the ink out when the tip starts to get dry.
Can someone please clarify all the different models ? I am not sure which one is what... I found all these black Pentel ones: XFL2F, XGFP-101X, XGFL-101-X so confusing :(
can you let me know how you can prevent the ink in the pen from drying out i have a pink pentel brush that i used but im worried about the ink drying in the pen.
Are you referring to the Pentel Color Brush Pen? Well, just cap it tight and there should be no problems drying out. I've not use mine for months and the brush tip is still wet.
Teoh Yi Chie thanks . What about other brush pens like the zig clean color or the pentel scientific ? I am scared they will dry out if i keep them upright or the ink will flow out if stored downward :-)
If the pen is dual tip, then it's best to store sideways so the ink can reach both ends. As long as you cap the pens properly, they should not dry up that easily.
My pentel fude Brush pen arrived today & it stated leaking.... My whole money got wasted !!! Is there anything i can do to fix it? Your advice would be very helpful
I also just bought a couple of them and not sure what kind of paper works well on these. Any recommendation? watercolor paper, photocopy paper, sketch pad or anything else?
Great video and informative. Interesting tool but... Disposable plastic cartridges. Why would they even make something like that? It becomes more of a concern everyday. The more I learn the more I want to use as environmentally clean tools to carry out my activities. I am not a raving environmentalist but I think that everyone should work towards getting a cleaner world. I was thinking about this and as it is not water fast or clean for the environment and it has expensive replacement cartridges that makes three strikes in my world. Oh well try again manufacturers....
With pens that use a disposable cartridge, there is often a fountainpen refillable cartridge available, or I refill the old cartridges several times with a blunt syringe and fountain pen ink. I like Noodler's Heart Of Darkness, but there are lots of good inks out there. Just, avoid india ink because it has resins that clog the bristles.
Thank you for mentioning that it is not water and light proof. It was very helpful.
2:00 cute insect on paper
Watch Kim jung gi use one of these and get blown away..!👌🏼
Yesss

das crazy
It seems like a cool pen- I’m definitely going to have to buy some!

gravit8 does that work well?? if it does that is hella smart
Thank you so much for this review! I finally got one and I'm loving it so much!

what, they are not water proof?
I guess after the ink runs out you can fill it with waterproof ink

+Isa Demagny Thanks! :-)
This was so helpful! Thank you so much.
love this vídeo... I am waiting for the pentel watercolors review
Love your reviews ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks 😁
Great video! Thank you for this!
thank you for sharing this.
thx much for the review.
Welcome \ (•◡•) /
I look forward to your refill the Pentel colour brush pen with permanent/waterproof ink
I refill mine with higgins ink
Daniela Betancourt
No problems with it so far then? How easy is it to refill?
Mine is fine c: is easy to refill it i have a video on how to refill the pen in channel.
7:12 what are the exact details that i can buy just this pen ?
You can find them on Amazon, Jetpens
Nice one Teoh.
+Bartholo Clumpdink Thanks (~˘▾˘)~
Thank you! Very usefull! :)
I like it! hope you can help me, I bought a sepia brush pen but it paints grey, you know what can I do to solve it?
Strange. Maybe shake the brush to mix the ink? Or it could be the colour has already faded, though it's quite unlikely.
@@teohyc it worked with the first one! Thank you so much
Thanks for the useful review.
Do you put special care on how to store this brushes? I mean, facing up, down, cool place, that stuff.
+Liberis Puritatem In theory, when drying, you should have the brushes horizontal or hair pointed down. For storing you can store upright.
Thank you.
hi Teoh, can dried color brush pen be revived by adding distill water?
Also, thanks to your review, I also bought the Kuretake Simi, Sailor Profit, 2 different Platinum ones and waiting on the #40 to arrive. I'm trying to get ready for Inktober this year :p
+Richard Williams Have fun with them 😁
Hi teoh, nice vid. I wonder if the cartridges are interchangable between models for the water based models that all appear to be the same design except for the different brush tips and sizes...ie, can I successfully replace a color cartridge in the standard pentel brush pen non color (just black dye based ink) water based model?
The cartridges for these brush pens only fit these brush pens.
Teoh Yi Chie: thank you!
What's that grey color you're using. Called?
I got my today and wanted it to try it out but the ink didn't come out. So I thought I should put ink in there. I opened it and then the ink went out and now my fingers are black :/ but the brush doesn't work properly
+Veronika Trasko Sometimes you have to squeeze many times to get the ink out. Ink flow is not good.
+Teoh Yi Chie oh. Do I have to squeeze really hard? maybe my brush is just defective :(
Veronika Trasko Sometimes I squeeze a lot of times. Look at the grip section when you squeeze. You should see ink coming out after a few squeezes.
You have to remove the little red ring around the pen. Unscrew the tip of the pen and take it off, make sure you screw the pen back together tightly:)
My brush pen got dried up in the brush itself so I washed the brush under the sink faucet and it worked. That might help.
Don’t use India ink. If you want waterproof black, use Rotring ink, or grey use Noodlers Lexington Gray
I have a question I just bought this brush pen how do u refill the cartridges with fountain pen ink thank u so much for this video review I really like your videos reviews 💯👍☺✌
+Jesus Duarte Just look for blunt tip syringes to refill those cartridges
Teoh Yi Chie thank u so much for your help how do I get the ink to flow down on to the brush tip ?
+Jesus Duarte Just have the brush tip face down when you are storing it.
+Jesus Duarte Some brush pen ink flow isn't good.
Is pental flude brush pen tsumihi same as these with black ink?
Could art done with these be preserved with a fixative with UV protection?
+James Barton It may help but I don't think it's going to help much. Ultimately, it's the material that's not lightfast to begin with.
I see. I appreciate the response. :-)
Hello, can this brush be used for watercolor once its already emptied?
Just refill it ua-cam.com/video/H-Go2m85jkI/v-deo.html
Can it be possible to put water inside it and use it like the pentel aquash for watercolor paintings?
@@elainenapuli1204 You can but you won't know when the water will run out
I have not seen one but have you done a review of the different blacks of the brush pens? I recently bought a couple of different ones of the Japanese brand and a Kuretake one also but I'm not sure of the difference. on some paper the shades are a little different and on others it's the same. If I remember correctly, the black from the coloured Pental brush pens (the large ones) is the shiny kind of black, but dries to matte anyway.
maybe I missed it but are you supposed to refill them or do you buy new "cartridges"
You're supposed to buy new ink cartridges. But if you want to save money, you can refill it yourself. Check out the refilling process at ua-cam.com/video/H-Go2m85jkI/v-deo.html
thx!
And when you stop using it do you have to put the red thing again???
+Viviana Del. You can or choose not too to get more ink flow.
i cant find the grey refills anywhere. can i use noodlers grey ink to refill cartridge?
Not too sure. You can always try.
what brush pens do you recommend using with watercolours? Love your videos btw! :-))
+Janice Fong With watercolour, I usually use travel brushes instead of brush pens. ua-cam.com/video/3Y5v13bnLtI/v-deo.html
However, I do use the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen for watercolour sometimes as the ink is waterproof.
+Teoh Yi Chie Thank you! :))
can you open holding grip part and show in video?
its brush/nib part
How is this different from the pentel pocket brush pen?
Pentel Pocket Brush only comes in black, has smaller ink capacity and shorter bristles
How do you fix it if the ink leaks?
I haven't faced any leaks yet. The ink flow is not so generous to the point that it will leak. You actually have to press the body to force the ink out when the tip starts to get dry.
Can someone please clarify all the different models ? I am not sure which one is what... I found all these black Pentel ones: XFL2F, XGFP-101X, XGFL-101-X so confusing :(
They are the same body, just different colours.

Are you referring to the Pentel Color Brush Pen? Well, just cap it tight and there should be no problems drying out. I've not use mine for months and the brush tip is still wet.
How do you store them? Upright downward or sideways??TIA
Either is fine. The brush tip should be wet and ready to use.
Teoh Yi Chie thanks . What about other brush pens like the zig clean color or the pentel scientific ? I am scared they will dry out if i keep them upright or the ink will flow out if stored downward :-)

+Alfia Romani Check to see if there are any cracks and try to paste tape over.
Yea i did try that but didnt work...Guess i got a damaged piece ... Bad luck :/
Alfia Romani Get it exchanged if you can. My guess is there is a crack somewhere that allows air to go in without control, and ink to come out.
Hmm.... yes der is but it will cost me a lot if I again send back as it was shipped from Japan 🇯🇵 ..... 😶
Alfia Romani actually, you could have just called the people you shipped it from and lodged a complaint. they would have no choice but too exchange it
I also just bought a couple of them and not sure what kind of paper works well on these. Any recommendation? watercolor paper, photocopy paper, sketch pad or anything else?
They work best of smooth paper unless you want a very rough brush look.
oh great thanks
Does anybody here knows why my pen split ink all the time? Ican't even use it, I don't know if the pen is always like that or mine is broken.
this brush pen can be reffiled with sumi inl?
+Gilberto De Jesus Santos Sumi ink is likely to clog. I use Rotring ink in this. See the refilling process at ua-cam.com/video/H-Go2m85jkI/v-deo.html

You should do a short video where you paint using coffee
+Burke McCoy Nice idea.
does anyone have issues with the ink drying? I've had my paper drying for like 30 mins and it still smudged :(
