Checkmate Striping Kit - Installation / First Use

  • Installing the Checkmate Striping Kit wasn't too hard. It's a very solid striping kit, the construction of it is very hardcore. The lawn stripes it made were awesome as well.
    They do make a striping kit for ride on lawn mowers and a striping kit for push mowers.

    I have one for my toro super recycler. Then bought new timemaster and did not wanna pay $175 for new checkmate. So cut a new piece of double unistrut and attached brackets and wheels to unistrut. Works great.

    The problem I have with this is that it will stress the plastic deck over years of use. Worse yet, drilling holes in the deck voids the lifetime warranty. I really want to love this system, but it’s going to come back to haunt you someday. Those deck holes are going to fracture.

  • @dblood8529

    I love my checkmate stripper. I only wish I made it. Those are only boat wheels that are made for boat trailers, you can easily make it for fraction of the cost. I actually have a 15 pound dumbbell on mine to weigh it down, it's a little too heavy for my mower but it works awesome.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  7 років тому +1

      Yeah I was looking into it but those boat wheels are actually pricey. Unless you have a trailer sitting around you can borrow them from. So I figured if I was going to spend that much I'll try the kit out and see what the hoopla is all about!

    • @dblood8529
      @dblood8529 7 років тому

      Yeah I think it's best system out there for striping. Also I found the boat wheels on a google search for around 4 bucks a wheel! And there was a guy selling them dirt cheap on graigslist, but of course that's near me.

    Cookie dough roller

    I have had the checkmate on my hrx for 2 years now. My only complaint is that it's a PITA to take off if your grass is too high or when summer stress starts to set in. My dad has the toro on his hrx and it's much easier to take off or put back on. I think the checkmate stripes nicer, though.

    For mowers with self propelled rear wheels with a transmission, seems like the additional load from the striping wheels could be damaging to the trans. You had no catcher bag attached, will one clear the striper assembly?

    We're can't I purchase the rolling kit for the Honda lawnmower

  • @michaelc7631
    @michaelc7631 5 років тому +1

    How do you truly feel about the weight of this kit? I bought it for my HRX last mowing season and found it very cumbersome.
    With the HRX being RWD and this roller adding so much mass to the backend I had issues with the front popping up a bit and causing an uneven cut or missed grass blades. Then maneuvering it, straightaways were fine, but hills, turns or uneven terrain weren't fun. Wound up removing after 2 months of usage.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  5 років тому +1

      The HRX is known to do that. The checkmate kit shouldn't add to the unbalanced weight but the toro one would.

    I wish my Ego mower had a spot for a striping kit but it really doesn't. Tried the toro one for a bit but it couldn't be attached as it could with a regular mower. I ended up using twist ties which ended up breaking after a while. Another thing is that I have a lot of landscaping so I there are a lot of tight corners which make it hard to use a striping it.

      Grass Daddy would love to see this or some more common man's mowers like this. I have an old HRR with the blade clutch and manual choke so I don't have the auto choke issues like some of the HRX mowers. Having a blade clutch is nice for stopping without having to start and stop the mower so much which can be hard on the engine. I think I'm going to work on getting a Chaplin sprayer and post emergents from domyown.com but this fall I'll pickup the HRR Checkmate roller kit.
