Greatest musician ever. His attitude was the best in an industry full of fraud business and crap players getting such undeserved adulation. Whatever goes for the greatest drummer/ musician..ever.. Buddy Rich forever!!!
First and Foremost not only a great super fantastic drummer but Buddy could hold his own on any interview. He had that show business back ground and would really put it straight the way he feels. Now as far as the Disney drum solo with his great band notice how he does that part of West Side in his drum solo where he makes the snare play I FEEL Pretty and then again the show stopping cross overs but all in all like all of his drum solos. He captivates and tells his story with a beginning a middle and a grand finale. Also when I watch him play a set especially when he has his chance to solo. He totally OWNS a set of drums. He reminds me of a race car driver who is going 200 miles plus an hour and instead of wrecking or turning over he knows how to drive that car. He knows his limitations and above all he really sends all the cruise missiles and after burners at full speed. Greatest drummer to ever draw breath. Gene Krupa said that and until this day Buddy has not been matched. Case Closed
This clip from ‘84 is the only time I’ve seen Buddy wearing a short sleeved shirt. Just a killer solo. And his appearance on What’s My Line was really enjoyable.
I remember seeing this at the time it was broadcast and hearing him sing "It's Not Easy Being Green" - surprised that he could sing so well and with such sensitivity.
Buddy was 67 years old playing this solo at Disneyland and he still had more energy than guys half his age. Oh sure, the hand crossovers and unders, cymbal catches, machine gun single strokes and technical ability were all second-nature to him at this point; but the fact that he still was able to pull off these monumental 10 minute solos night after night was amazing! I miss this man immensely.
I think Sid was up to the task of sparring with Buddy. He got Buddy's often acerbic (bordering on mean) sense of humor.Just another fun discovery on UA-cam.
Those are the Radio Kings from Slingerland and they were fantastic! Les DeMerle plays a set of Craviottos all single ply and loves them. I have no idea what a set costs these days, but those are the way to go over any multi ply kit around.
I think the 1984 solo was one of the best Buddy ever played, at least one that was recorded. It was incredible and this is from his later period, in his 60's.
Alot of people have called him arrogant but i think he just had a very sarcastic sense of humour which might offend some people. I have read he had fits of temper which hint at a tendancy to have high stress levels. Like everyone he had his issues and his end was quite sad and before his time.
Millennial: "Buddy who?" Me: "Buddy Rich...ya know? He was that jazz drummer with the good chops." Millennial: "Oh...I bet Kanye sampled his shit." Me: "You degenerate fuck..."
Buddy's final Slingerland kit. A much better snare than the Fibes he used a lot, in my opinion. Not only the greatest ever drummer, but the sharpest wit in showbiz. He could have been a great comedian. Other drummers had great speed and gimmicks, but never Buddy's God given gift.
After seeing and hearing the solo I thought,"Yep he's from another planet alright"Whew!!!
Buddy Rich,Is a Hero of the America.
I had the fortune of seeing Buddy live in 1980 in London
I just betcha Down Beat really loved this. He could be thoughtful and generous at times....this was not one of those times.
Greatest musician ever. His attitude was the best in an industry full of fraud business and crap players getting such undeserved adulation. Whatever goes for the greatest drummer/ musician..ever.. Buddy Rich forever!!!
Plaza Gardens..Where I had one of the greatest moments of my life..meeting Buddy between sets..

God of the drums
The best musician on drums I ever saw.
I remember seeing this at the time it was broadcast and hearing him sing "It's Not Easy Being Green" - surprised that he could sing so well and with such sensitivity.
He was quite a dancer too

What a great shame, that Slingerlands are no longer made.
Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa's favourite drums.

I like to inform you that DW company bought Slingerland brand 3 months ago and I think they will make them again.
@@_-_Michael_-_ D.W. cant make sheet unless they copy . and Charge silly $$
He wasn’t joking when he said “Don’t touch me !” 😂
Great video
Not sure what was sharper, his wit or playing. Always loved his repartee with Johnny on The Tonight Show.
Buddy's Playing!

So crisp and lots of Buddys flavor!
Beyond great. Almost inhuman.
This is 1974 June I think, I saw this on PBS. buddy was in between big bands.
Alot of people have called him arrogant but i think he just had a very sarcastic sense of humour which might offend some people. I have read he had fits of temper which hint at a tendancy to have high stress levels. Like everyone he had his issues and his end was quite sad and before his time.
Look up the bus tapes
Whats a men,aggressive,sensaybily,leader,artist,master.
0:39 'there are only 40 members and one other drummer.' Is the other drummer Billy Cobham?
Two nice "Jewish Boys"you respect each other. RIP
The musician some parts of the Maynard Ferguson band!!!!
Just don't dare blow a single clam.
My good friend barry has a slingerland. Havent got a clue where he got it from. I think hes had it decades.
This was so hard to watch.
Top footage; love the interview and the solo is beyond words...
small group, buddy's place. jack Wilkins, Kenny barron
Taped 18 Sep 1974

Well Buddy lost to Billy Cobham in the Downbeat Poll in 1973 so he naturally wouldn't be thrilled.

syncopated shot maker, master problem solver

I'M A GOOD DRUMMER!
Anthony Sonnheim No one cares
Would like to hear you Anthony. Could you upload a recording of your drum playing? Buddy is great but hes also dead. I believe in the future of music.
phew…...
STEVE SMITH ex JOURNEY IS A EXCEPTIONAL DRUMMER AS WELL!
Correction...Steve Smith will be back on tour with Journey in 2016!!!
Anthony Sonnheim Who cares ???
Steve’s a terrific player and a huge Buddy’ Rich fan. Funny how that tends to be the case more often than not.
This is FUNNY !!! 👏👏👏🌟
