There is a big problem with animation on Netflix, they greenlight/ license a good number of projects that receive no advertisement and a good chunk of them are pretty good. So the show ends up dying with 1 season. The most recent example is lookism.
HOLY SHIT! I didn't even think of the people forced to watch and edit this shit show. Even if they used an AI the poor thing would need PTSD health care for the rest of it's life.
On one hand I appreciate Netflix biting the bone and greenlighting a ton of random projects every year as it gives more folks a chance to get out in the sphere but at the same time...some of them just didn't need to be at the end of the day.
100% appreciate the sentiment, but the problem is the sh*t they greenlight is stuff like this. Don't think Jake Paul needed any more publicity... perhaps much, much less.
It doesnt really work like this sadly. If they just greenlight every shitshow and they dont invest a dime in marketing even the ok or good shows wont be seen by anybody cuz they will not appear in anyones front page. Even if someone makes a masterpiece, it wont be appreciated by Netflix cuz it will greenlight just anything and nobody will be able to see it cuz its at the bottom of the shitbarrel.
I think it'll be about him training for fights, it'll be dirt cheap for them to make and people will either hate-watch it or watch it because they're unironically interested in him as a boxer. It still bums me out that after everyone raised such a fuss about the password sharing crackdown and how anti-consumer it was, it turned out to be a roaring success and they made tonnes of new revenue from it. Other companies will naturally take notes and follow suit.
@tehy123 what's ridiculous is expecting that everyone can afford almost $16 a month on top of everything else that costs money. I don't see anything wrong with a family getting one subscription to share for even the children who live out on their own. Maybe in 2010 everyone could be subscribed to Netflix, but now there are a million different streaming services and they all have different shows and movies. It's not worth it to be subscribed to all of them to watch anything you want.

Netflix will never have a big catalogue of on going popular shows with the way they do business, because once a show gets big, those working on the show have greater negotiating power for their contracts. And Netflix does not like that.

Netflix does all of these projects and when they fail they claim it as a tax write off. This is happening with all platforms that produce original content. Netflix is the one that does it the most.
I watched a documentary about Netflix’s rise to prominence and if I recall correctly one of the reasons they create so many flop-shows is bc it’s far cheaper to do a “Netflix Original”than paying a studio for the rights to host a show or movie.
1899 is the most addictive sci-fi series I've seen since Lost and just thinking that I won't be able to know its ending soon mortifies me since it was designed to develop it 😁😂😂
"most addictive sci-fi series" : 1. 2004 Battlestar Galactica remake series 2. Star Trek The Next Generation all seasons 3. Babylon 5 Season 1 to 3 (the main Vorlons vs Shadows saga) 4. Legion (X-Men mutant) FX Series Season 1 to 3 If you still have not watched them, give them a try.
I was spacing out so much that I thought I heard you say that they were doing a Jigsaw documentary and I was like why? Didn't the movies explain everything?? lmao.
They should make a documentary about Charlie and his rise to fame as the best actor of all time with the critically acclaimed role of officer Greg and being featured on hunger games
I honestly think the subscription services will get totally fucked by the strikes, but the production companies are so out of touch (like you said) that the only product they will provide will be "reality TV". They (Netflix, Max, Prime, Apple etc) will ultimately raise the cost of their subscriptions claiming its "for the writers and production value" but continue to give us crap.
Then they lose more subs, and lose more cash Win win I know amazon and Disney are hurting for subs to D+ and prime, so the quicker they do this and kill themselves off the better hahahaha
Charlie please take saving Netflix into your own hand and finally release that Moistverse documentary with tier lists moby huges moist meters moist esports and more as an retired professional actor in one of the biggest dystopian trilogy 👏🏼🫶🏻
They greenlight a lot of stuff from amateur filmmakers who just went out of filmschool and somehow got a budget. You can really notice that with the horror genre.
I find amateur filmmakers who haven't gone to film school have their own unique way of making films/shorts. I think Netflix needs more of those people. I've seen many amazing short films on UA-cam that were made by people who have years of experience but never went to film school or had a big budget. Just a camera and editing.
lemme tell you, as an artist. netflix has had MANY artists pitch AMAZING ideas and pilots but have refused them because they don't like taking chances and realistic lgbt+ characters. They want stereotypes and rehashed formulas that's made them money before.
The reason why Netflix is "doing well" on paper is because of their international productions. They may be going weak in the US, but theyre very dominant in a lot of markets. Imagine countries that don't even have Prime or Hulu and Netflix is your only foreign subscription? That's the case for a lot of countries.
Netflix takes the comedians approach with quick jokes, put out as many as you can in a short amount of time and one of them is bound to get people laughing
Takes the time to prepare us for the absolute heated, foul language we're all about to endure. "Netflix is a bunch of dummies". Thank you Charlie, my 112 year old grandmother was in the other room dying and the last thing I wanted her to hear while doing so is language
This is why we have a writers strike right now. Netflix can pump out so many shows to see what sticks, because the writers are so severely under paid. They lowball creators in hopes at least ONE show takes off.
Netflix original has become a synonym for “we have to justify or fee let us fill our page with things we know you don’t want to see so we have one more thing we offer”
“Excuse my potty mouth, and excuse my French” 😂 This is why I love your videos. The subtle humor you make without making a face, makes me sometimes miss jokes that I have to rewatch when I see someone in the comments point it out 🤣

My favorite part about Netflix is how even when they do get good shows they just cancel it after 1 or 2 seasons. And then replace it with another garbage show that no one cares about.
I can tell you why they’re coming out with them now. Back in 2017/2018 Netflix put out their new requirements for things to be shot on if you wanted to submit it, and made it public. To the shock and surprise of many film students and faculty alike, (I know because I was in film school at the time) the camera minimums were things that a lot of people who did videography for a living could afford, or already had. Moreover, Netflix had just released Making a Murderer to critical acclaim, and that was the direction Netflix wanted to go in and try out. So Netflix then put out a “bounty” of sorts, and advertised that they wanted to buy up any and all documentaries that they could, in order to have a catalogue to burn through and find the next Making a Murderer. Problem is, there was no real quality check on these things. So what people were submitting were just generally trash, and now because Netflix needs releases, it’s what we’re getting in 2023.
Kinda sad that netflix pumped out 900+ netflix originals that no one ever watches but cancel actually good shows that has more views than all of those 900+ netflix originals
Blumhouse production's entire business model is throw small amounts of money to fund every single horror script they see and this works out well for them, cus the occasional hit outweighs the amount of slop they release tenfold

There is a big problem with animation on Netflix, they greenlight/ license a good number of projects that receive no advertisement and a good chunk of them are pretty good. So the show ends up dying with 1 season. The most recent example is lookism.
Lookism was cancelled?
Maybe Netflix could take votes on what should stay or what they should bring back? Instead of just flooding the screen.

- Motivational Quotes by Charlie
On one hand I appreciate Netflix biting the bone and greenlighting a ton of random projects every year as it gives more folks a chance to get out in the sphere but at the same time...some of them just didn't need to be at the end of the day.
My farts are better than Charlie’s farts 💨
100% appreciate the sentiment, but the problem is the sh*t they greenlight is stuff like this. Don't think Jake Paul needed any more publicity... perhaps much, much less.
They greenlight everything, but the few good things they got die within a season.
@@p-__ You will never amount to Charlie’s farts, no matter how hard you try your farts will ALWAYS fall flat in comparison 🤗
I have little doubt drama channels will have videos about how awful it is when it comes out, so people like Charlie will be watching it too.
Much love and respect to you and your channel Charlie. I really appreciate you, thank you for what you do and everything you have done. I love your content and videos.

It still bums me out that after everyone raised such a fuss about the password sharing crackdown and how anti-consumer it was, it turned out to be a roaring success and they made tonnes of new revenue from it. Other companies will naturally take notes and follow suit.
Probably because password sharing was a ridiculous practice and Netflix cracking down on it made perfect sense

@tehy123 what's ridiculous is expecting that everyone can afford almost $16 a month on top of everything else that costs money. It seems that Netflix is running out of serial killers to make documentaries of.
Netflix will never have a big catalogue of on going popular shows with the way they do business, because once a show gets big, those working on the show have greater negotiating power for their contracts. And Netflix does not like that.
Netflix: “Let’s greenlight a show”
Also Netflix: “Let’s cancel a show that’s got a genuine fanbase but isn’t popular enough to make us money”

I watched a documentary about Netflix’s rise to prominence and if I recall correctly one of the reasons they create so many flop-shows is bc it’s far cheaper to do a “Netflix Original”than paying a studio for the rights to host a show or movie.
1899 is the most addictive sci-fi series I've seen since Lost and just thinking that I won't be able to know its ending soon mortifies me since it was designed to develop it 😁😂😂
"most addictive sci-fi series" : 1. 2004 Battlestar Galactica remake series
2. Star Trek The Next Generation all seasons
3. Babylon 5 Season 1 to 3 (the main Vorlons vs Shadows saga)
4. Legion (X-Men mutant) FX Series Season 1 to 3
If you still have not watched them, give them a try.

They should make a documentary about Charlie and his rise to fame as the best actor of all time with the critically acclaimed role of officer Greg and being featured on hunger games
8:12 the funniest thing is how accurate this is
I honestly think the subscription services will get totally fucked by the strikes, but the production companies are so out of touch (like you said) that the only product they will provide will be "reality TV". They (Netflix, Max, Prime, Apple etc) will ultimately raise the cost of their subscriptions claiming its "for the writers and production value" but continue to give us crap.
Then they lose more subs, and lose more cash
Win win
I know amazon and Disney are hurting for subs to D+ and prime, so the quicker they do this and kill themselves off the better hahahaha
The thing is nobody wants to see the stuff the writers write
That’s why everyone is going broke lmao

They greenlight a lot of stuff from amateur filmmakers who just went out of filmschool and somehow got a budget. You can really notice that with the horror genre.
They try to catch them before they go to A24
I find amateur filmmakers who haven't gone to film school have their own unique way of making films/shorts.

So half of the conforming customers are not Americans?
Yup. In my country there's special mobile data subscriptions for the few streaming platforms we get too. Korean dramas carry Netflix in Asia
Netflix takes the comedians approach with quick jokes, put out as many as you can in a short amount of time and one of them is bound to get people laughing

My favorite part about Netflix is how even when they do get good shows they just cancel it after 1 or 2 seasons. And then replace it with another garbage show that no one cares about.
Netflix might think it's just a numbers game where they just dish out everything, and sometimes something does come out that is good
I can tell you why they’re coming out with them now.
Now we need a 3 hour documentary done by Charlie himself
Now, thats a show that I will watch
Ngl I'd watch it knowing it's gonna be him blowing his own trumpet

Blumhouse production's entire business model is throw small amounts of money to fund every single horror script they see and this works out well for them, cus the occasional hit outweighs the amount of slop they release tenfold
but that is much different than a series or show, as movies are only an hour or two. on top of that Blumhouse didn't release 900 movies last year
@@ooiiooiiooiialso i doubt blumhouse is giving as much money away per series as netflix lol
