MK7 GTI Stage 2 Dyno Comparison COBB OTS vs EQT (Equilibrium Tuning)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 лис 2024
- We do a dyno comparison with this MK7.5 GTI. Stock turbo, with COBB Accessport OTS Stage 2 file, and EQT's Stage 2 file. Although the COBB OTS file brings good power to the table, there's more to be had.

Damn EQT is becoming a Major player in the MQB platform. Next would be EQT VS APR. On IS38 Turbo. Please LIKE to get this comparison going!
EQT winning that hands down. No question.
EQT hands down. Running FBO IS38 EQT tune and the thing just rips.
@@snowrussell19 what if it's a placebo effect with EQT? Where we want to believe it's stronger but all things being equal they might be the same. He has a video with IS38 tune and mentioned all tunes are within the same range you can't get more power out of an IS38 without fuel mods etc. In the comments he was asking people to be claiming 400hp to send him the dyno and if numbers have been corrected. APR has been very accurate with it's numbers other companies claim higher. He ran 2 companies under same dyno and numbers where pretty much the same. In this instance EQT wins, but how will it fair Vs APR who's been running the MQB platform for a long time. I'm very interested to see if David "EQT" can defeat Goliath (APR) in equal tune. They only have 91 pump gas.
Meh leave APR on shelf. Let’s see a Sneaky vs EQT dunk run
@@Diminish12 there are a lot more things to consider when you're talking about the largest tuning company in the world for VAG vehicles who offer state compliant emission passing software to our knowledge (we dont require it here). Also full warranty at a dealer level. My statement stands true a turbo only has so much to give if all things are the same.
The world needs an IE vs EQT shootout.
I got a stage 2 IE and raced a stage 2 EQT I got him 2/3 times
@@andrewthomas7595 Press X to Doubt
They’re both so parked, eurodyne claps more sorry to inform u
I’m on a stage 1 Apr and raced a stage 2 ie and got him both times got video proof
Eqt stage 1 beat apr stage 2, eqt stage 2 was dead even 4/4 times with a uni stage 2, and it was 2/4 each with IE
I've tried a few different tunes on my mk7.5 and eqt by far has been the best I get practically zero knock and the most power of any tune I've tried.
What others
Unitronic?
@@audieconrad8995 I have Uni stage 2 with Uni downpipe and APR intercooler. It made 280/305, on their 91 octane file. Drives great, but it's conservative. Peak boost of 22 psi compared to like 29 on the EQT tune, and EQT makes I think 50 more lb/ft.
@gtdrummerdude interesting. I don't claim to be real knowledgeable about how all of it works...but, I have MK7 '17 GTI with Uni stage1+. According to Unitronic it pumps 310hp/345ft.lb. on 93 octane. It sure feels it. Installed a DKM stage-2 clutch to handle it. Keep'er between the lines brothah.
Thanks for the review guys :) -Cliff

It may happen, unfortunately the owner is like 4hrs away from us. :(
its planned, Dave will get me one soon haha
This. Yes please.
Ive been looking at EQT for a tune since i found out aprs stage 2 got discontinued. This was perfect timing!
I've run unitronic stage 2 and apr stage 2 both seemed fairly similar... However both were in my rearview lol..
My mk7 gti made very similar power on eqt stage 1 93 tune with only an mst turbo inlet, drop in afe filter and ngk ruthenium plugs gapped at 0.024. It made 295hp and 368lb at the wheels with near identical dyno graphs with this stage 2 eqt gti.
Most likely the octane 93 I have 93 in my area so I hope once I get the tune and everything I start pushing more than 300

Ah yes I love seeing the MQB platform and people putting out non bias dyno numbers 😎
We do our best. The COBB AP by itself is a good upgrade, there's just more to be had.
If you dealt with either Ed or Nick directly I guarrantee they highly suggested an IC for Stage 2 - otherwise, you are going to fall on power and dump more fuel each time you get on the peddle.
Im running the EQT 93 Stage 2 with just a downpipe and holy hell do my charge temps rise fast on the stock IC on just a single pull. An intercooler will make a huge difference.
@@MikemoRides Yes indeed M8 that's the truth. I highly recommend the AMS as a choice. At the least, replace it at the stock location.
You're missing out on consistancy and having to dump more fuel for the lack of better combustion. Get'er done :-)

If you use E85 and Cob, This is mean that you have corn on the cob?
Technically speaking yes.
This was interesting. I switched from COBB to Eurodyne Maestro a couple of years ago not just for the custom tuning but cost. I own 3 other VAG cars so I’ve saved a bit over individual tunes.
Yep makes sense.
Just to clarify to everyone, the EQT files are are OTS tunes. They are not custom tunes.
Partially correct. Custom tuning is available with EQT.
Great video! I need to get the EQT sauce!

That's exactly what we're showing here.
I love how VW basically advertise wheel hp instead of crank.
Well remember it had mods on it. So not a totally stock comparison.
Should have done a DSG and non DSG for the Cobb .cause the DSG is suppose to help raise tq limiters and the TCU doesn't try to limit power
I'll keep it in mind thanks. These take hours to do so adding more time for those little comparisons doesn't typically fit in, but if we can sometime we'll try. Thanks
ah dude my best friends uncles cousin said when he dynoes he always closes the sun roof it makes 7.3 more hp due to less resitance! geez what are ya some kinda amature?!
i had similar results back when i had my subaru the STI OTS stage 2 vs a pro tune was soooo much more mid range it was like an absolute damn race car. i am hella shocked with the EQT results on their stage 2 thats badass! Great video per usual biessss
It’s 7.2 more hp, we’ve been over this before gosh! I guess you’ve never taken the s3 for a rip stock vs stage2 on my eqt tune either have you.....you would not be shocked had you done so in my slowmobile
Weirdly enough, my mk7 gti with an intake and catless downpipe also made 236/285 on the stock tune lol I was shocked when I heard those numbers!!! Almost creepy
Very nice. What fuel?
My car is also 6MT, but On shitty winter 93 so probably equivalent to your good 91 lol my eqt stage 2 tune def feels like it’s putting down the numbers you guys got too! I peak 29 psi on that tune occasionally
Sorry for the stupid question. Do y'all support the 7 speed DSG GTI? Nice test BTW....
Another good vid. What fuel, dyno, and altitude? Also what cobb map did you test?
Sea level. Rest is covered in video.
Was this a stock exhaust but a catless DP and intake? Just bought a 2016 GTI DSG and I want to make it a little bit louder and have the DSG farts but I don’t want to be ridiculously loud, any advice?
My APR stage 1 high torque 93 tune is more than EQT stage 2 🤨
Is that a question or statement?
Is cobbs stage 2 93 safe to use with a downpipe ? Because i have a mk7 and I don’t have a stage 3 option but for stage 2 it says Intercooler and catback or stock exhuast and I have a downpipe and cat back and want to make sure it’s safe to run stage 2 cobb ?
Great video! Really enjoyed seeing the comparisons.
Do you guys have access to the 034 Stage 2 file,? Would love to see that!
I don't hear of anyone running 034 on their MK7's - thoughts?
Keep up the great work
We haven't used any of their software in 15years of doing this. Not saying it's not good, but the reason you don't see much about it is because clearly they're not a big contender on this platform comparison to others.
@@COMotorsports Fair enough. My Audi mechanic is a rep for them, we put a DP on my 16 GTI and loaded up the Stage 2 from 034 - I can tell you it is life-changing compared to stock. :D
I appreciate your response!
@@buspilots No doubt, lots of power to be had.
I have the 034 stage 1 tune with the DSG map and absolutely love it.
I like this type of comparison. What is the best intercooler? I currently have the APR intercooler. I'm debating and trying to learn what is the best setup to get the max power on 93 octane without blowing up my car on track weekends. I average 347whp and 374ftlbs currently. Would like more, a lot more of course for the straights on track. Tested information on this would be appreciated thank you.
APR makes very good intercoolers. 👍
What would those numbers be in SAE? I always do SAE and I'm about to dyno my Unitronic stage 2 GTI on a Dynojet and want to compare to these numbers. Probably 290 I'm guessing. Any way for you to switch the CF on this dyno file and let me know?
Just ask your dyno operator to switch it to STD after the runs so you can compare. It's 2 clicks of the mouse.
@@COMotorsports I ended up doing 280/305 in STD. I guess that's decent considering the car only peaks at 21-22 psi which is the target per Unitronic. 15 shy of EQT but they use 5+ more psi to get that extra 15 hp, which is probably why those tunes make a lot more torque down low. The Unitronic tune feels plenty torquey to me but they obviously build the power more gradually. I was about to buy an Accessport with some EQT tunes earlier but I remembered I'm moving to 6,000 ft elevation in 2 months and that would probably dust my turbo. The Uni tune leaves plenty of head room for the turbo.
Add a SneekyTuned file to it and do another video, plse
Send along the file and we'll make it happen.
@@COMotorsports if doesn't come through i have one, 91 octane sneeky.
I remember you mentioned before that a Ko4 turbo setup isn't the best bang for your buck. Would it even be worth upgrading the turbo if you plan on dailying the car itself?

Didn't apr claim 337hp from stage 2 with a 12.8 1/4 ? Guessing that was base not wheel so guess that's fairly similar with drivetrain loss.
I prefer datalog st tuning vs ots or Dyno tunes.
My tuner spent months with me recording logs and refining each time I added more bolt ons.
We got 350whp from a stock internal inline 5 with stock frame billet hybrid turbo.
Stock turbos OTS is fine. Most of the large complaints have them dialed and the gains if any to do a custom tune typically isn't worth the time, effort or cost. Custom application and turbo yes 100% worth it.
You kinda look like the lead singer of Smashing Pumpkins 🎃
Awesome! But this really should have been Cobb Stage 3 vs EQT Stage 2. The stages are deferent from Cobb vs EQT. Cobbs stage 2 is more like a Stage 1+.. where Cobb stage 3 is more in line with all other tuners Stage 2 files
Incorrect, COBB Stage 3 file requires a lot more mods then what this vehicle has. For example, IC, Catback exhaust, which it doesn't have. This was a fair comparison.
From when you switched from Cobb to eqt did you unmarry it or you just flashed it to the eqt stage 2?

Maybe a dumb question.. but will a DSG tune add more hp/tq??
On some cars it can. Some cars it allows more rpm and, and depending on the setup will add more HP. Typically on SC cars.
Did you get any B Roll?? Yeah. * puts sticker on*
I’m assuming this is with the staged stage 2 tune?
Can we get a IE vs EQT?

This is kind of a bad comparison, and more of a marketing video for EQT. You are literally taking the worst OTS tuning for this car (Cobb files) and comparing it to one of the best OTS tuning files for this car (EQT). What you should be doing is comparing the EQT Stage 2 OTS file against something like Eurodyne, APR, or Unitronic Stage 2 OTS file. If marketing for this company is what you’re trying to go for, be honest and do a proper comparison instead of hiding important pieces of information.
EQT is great because they offer multiple types of tunes for a good price, that generates curiosity by those who have certain mods. That’s how EQT has become such a popular company, because other companies like Eurodyne and APR don’t have specific OTS tunes for those running things like ethanol. But I would love to see a real tuning company vs EQT and see those results. Not this Cobb OTS tune junk, that has been known to be the worst OTS tunes for this platform...
It's not a bad comparison at all. We did exactly what we and the customer wanted to do. Test out the Cobb file, and compare it to the EQT file. You're reading into this more than you should. We had a customer who wanted to compare on their vehicle so we did just that. We have another booked in for a mk7r to do the exact same thing, which may share as well.
If someday we get someone who has an existing tune with another provider and wants to switch to EQT, and wants us to dyno it for comparison we may share that as well. But until then, we're not paid by any provider to do these videos. We're sharing customer cars...and that's it.
