It’s an amazing song and I keep finding things that make me realize what a genius and incredible musician and performer Freddie Mercury was. Thank you!

I like the connections to other songs. Instead of the usual drama of "who copied who first". There will be aesthetic similarities between songs because it's effective. It doesn't matter who got to it first.

Thanks again helping my fight against not doing music because it's silly and childish. It looks like a new format with every new video and a constant awareness on how to best communicate the subject at hand. You are a fantastic teacher.
1:58 Didn't know the Stravinsky lick, but I only hear the opening line from 'La Vie En Rose' ;-) haven't check the score though!

I would watch an infinite number of videos like this.
(And for what it's worth, I know you have to be careful about devaluing your product, but I do think you should consider including a bit of what the PDF **looks like** in the video itself... because I **think** such a document would be worth three bucks to me, but just a moment ago, when I was looking at the final payment form, the fact that I didnt have a clear sense of the contents / quality of what I was purchasing was ultimately enough to turn me off from buying it.)
(To be clear: I'm obviously assuming it's gonna be 'good,' because you've clearly put a lot of effort into this analysis... but, like: How long is the manuscript? How much of it is longform written analysis; annotated sheets; illustrated theory abstractions; etc.? Maybe you could include some screencaps or a scroll-thru, wherein all of the valuable specifics have been blurred out or redacted with black highlighting...? Sumthin.' In any case, I'm definitely in the demographic for such a purchase; I'd just need a bit more information about it before diving in.)
(Also: See my initial comment. Great work.)

Interesting video, man! On an unrelated note, and through vastly less rigorous analysis, I discovered that playing the first part ("A" section) of "Deck The Halls" over the Jeopardy theme works very nicely. Try it.

  • @TheApostleofRock

Not discounting your work or analysis...but half of these similarities seem like...staples of popular music or at least somewhat contrived. Like vamping I and V...man I can't think of ANY pieces that use those chords.
That said, I had no idea that Queen's vocal harmonies were this spicy. Very cool. So sorry for sounding llike an asshole

It's funny - recently I've started appreciating We Are the Champions a lot more, noticing much of the harmonic analysis pointed out in this video, but without really knowing the harmonic analysis (if that makes sense). Then this video comes along and fills in all the dots for me. Really cool.

Jazz Duets ua-cam.com/video/kohkfSQoex4/v-deo.html it used to be hard to find because the album titles were in French. It’s from a solo guitar live album he did. I’m fairly sure most of it is just Bireli making stuff up as he goes along. It would be interesting to know if he catches some of the harmonic subtlety you highlight here! Great videos btw

Not even the great mozart was absolutely original in his works. Every great composer knew how to synthesize the best of his predecessors, consciously or unconsciously. So we must give merit to the greats of the past, but RECOGNIZE, the genius of modern creators. That certainly always give work and sustenance to analysts and critics.

When I hear him sing "WE are the CHAMPions" in the chorus, it sounds to me like the playground taunt, "NAH nah nah NAH nah". I wonder if this was intentional?

For the love of fuck, we don't give a crap what other songs may or may not be similar to We Are the Champions. This ain't a jazz/harmony analysis, this is just bullshit. Seriously, a I-V7 in minor warrants a bajillion comparisons to Alicia Keys and whatnot?
