Solo Tent Camping in the Rain

  • Just got back from a solo overnight camping trip and tested out a new tent, the Springbar Compact. This tent has many of the features I like about Springbar tents with a much lighter packed weight. I propped up all four sides on my Snow Peak Land Nest tarp and created a large space to relax and cook in the rainy weather. Thank you all for watching!

    Thank you for showing the Springbar compact. I’ve been looking for a small canvas tent and saw the Compact. My husband and I go car camping ( in our small 4 door Mini cooper). Hey, thank you, really happy to hear you liked it! I’m really enjoying the simplicity of the IGT Slim and luxury low chairs. Snow peak sells a pillow for lumbar support, I’m not sure if you’ve already tried it. Seems like it gets mixed reviews, but I think for lumbar it might do the trick. My other chairs offer less support than the beach chairs.

    Just came upon your video...Funny I just spoke to my Nephew this morning as I am old, but prepared for anything, and he and his wife are very active Backpackers, but I said, if something should happen to me, you need to go thru my shelves of Camping equipment. I have it all in case the SHTF and I have seasoned. What I didn't season was my Wood Stove, because I didn't know how, so in this Video I don't need a Hot Tent, I can just do anytime. Thank you for that and thank you for the calmness of your video. Loved your cot but not affordable for me, nor is much you use. Insane pricing from Japan. I love my country and try to buy USA Materials, though aren't they all bought and sold. Yikes. Our Country is sad.

    • @rtmadani
      @rtmadani  Місяць тому +5

      The compact is a lot more manageable to bring along. Even before I bought my Springbar Vagabond, I was debating getting the compact instead. Springbar sent me this tent to try along with the new classic jack that was just released this month. I think paired with a cot, you have plenty of space and it could easily work for longer trips as well. It’s pretty much all the things I like about springbar tents but lighter.

    • @barfly79
      @barfly79 Місяць тому

      @@rtmadani I had the same tent but the Kodiak version. They are great for one person. I used it for a few years but got tired of having to tarp it - it's a whole process to dry out once you are home if it gets damp or wet. But, they are bomb proof and very comfortable. Great video all around, nice to see the new table and other gear. I'm on the fence with the SP sleeping bag!

    • @rtmadani
      @rtmadani  Місяць тому +1

      @barfly79 Nice, yeah they’re great minimalistic solo tents but your right, they require some extra care when you get home to properly dry. The SP sleeping bags have been pretty good so far for mild weather in the 40s. They’re large to pack, especially if two are zipped together, but it’s nice that it doesn’t feel at all like a traditional sleeping bag and more like a bed.

    You know, watching your video, it becomes clear that you need a shower system ^^ If so, you could use the Domatic solely for drinking water and showering off dishes and stuff properly with a Ridge Monkey (if you got power) or something with a manual pump ;)

    • @Mushroom_Samba
      @Mushroom_Samba Місяць тому +2

      @@rtmadani Yeah, that we own. We also looked a lot, but the supply range in Germany often is kind of disappointing. For us it was important to have it powered for a nice steady stream showering. We got the Ridgemonkey Outdoor Power Shower. 15 litres our bucket can carry and holds a gently pressure for a couple of minutes. Enough for 2 people to shower off. And enough pressure to clean dishes properly (some vids are on @paso_camping you follow ;) Cons are: The bucket is not really leak free. Having it in a car fully loaded, the waters swaps out a bit. We are trying to upgrade it with a rubber seal. Maybe because all is plastic I have overdone it with the screwing and they say not to fill it up to the top ;) ... then, because it is powered you do have to refill a bit more often, which is the downside of a nice steady stream (though I dont care, setting prios). A bigger bucket is no solution because then it gets really really heavy to carry around. And as my dear wife says, it is not really pretty with the glowy green ring thingies. Yeah, all in all though, I am happy with it. And you can warm up a bit water on your stove to mix it with the colder one from the Ridgemonkey.
