This explains this so much better than anyone else out there.
How do you ground the case of the momentary switch if it’s plastic? … arcade style
You should have pointed out that a switch inline with the hot wire(signal out), would need to be a normaly closed switch, where as a switch to ground needs to be a normally open switch.
Correct. All of the comments are just thanking him while yours is actually using logic
This is really helpful to see all sketched out and explained in greater detail than you typically find in printed tutorials
This was far more helpful then any tutorial I've seen. Explains it very well for beginners without assumed knowledge. Thank you!
Thanks Dylan, good info! I lately built myself an on-off foot pedal to silence my bass in between songs at rehearsals. We all know that background noises and noodling around are a drag, especially in a big band... I only hated the loud clicks that I got every now and then when using the pedal. Seems like an easy fix now, thanks again!
BEST explanation ever and the actual correct way to wire it!
Hey Dylan, i want to thank you for the video you made about the gig bags, you convinced me to get one instead of a case, i got the gator transit, awesome gig bag !
Thank you, Dylan, for always explaining things concisely and precisely.
Thanks for keeping it simple most videos are full of information you don't need they don't get to the point you did thank you
Dylan…Great Job! I TOTALLY thought it’d be the hot. I wired it from the hot to the output Jack. The guitar didn’t make noise until I pressed the button. I’m going to try your way. Thanks so much!
I'm so glad I found your channel. Thank you for the great videos! You've taught me so much
wow thank you so much sir!! we have even more content at patreon.com/dylantalkstone and our facebook page
Thanks this was super-helpful in sketching out the how's and why's of the diagram that came with a Tesi Kill Switch.
Thank you for that explanation for the wiring! I could not wrap my head around why I was seeing the wiring the way it was.
Amazon link for the switch is dead, any chance we could get a new one?
Old vid, but This is exactly how the basic two wire tesi momentary switch I just ordered say what to do in the instructions. But thanks for the diagram and verification. Not too much info about killswitches and many different ways I see it being wired on different types of guitars. I’m not good with electrical so this helps simplify things
I want to install a kill switch in my bass and this video clear all my doubts!!! Awesome!!!
Thx Dylan... gonna do this on my 1987 Ibanez RG!😊
Awesome information man, thank you
Hi dylan.thanks for all these infos and your awesome work. What wiring would you use to create this killswitch with a spdt switch ?
Does it work the same way on the active pickups? Are we not shorting them?
Can you also wire a toggle to reverse the kill switch as another option?
good day sir, is it possible to have a 2 humbucker 1 tone + killswitch without volume?
I wired mine that way (to the o/p jack) but it still pops when you release the switch and unground the circuit.
Very helpful, thanks a lot!
Thank you 🙏 It works
Best explanation and rationale ever.
What is the software he is using?
wow never thought about that, thanks!
Okay, so I'm building a Nashville Telecaster at home.
I'm using a three-knob switchplate. One for a killswitch (hence this video), one for tone, and I was wanting to use a stacked knob for my volume. The bottom knob wired to the bridge and neck, with the top wired to the middle.
My thought is to have the bridge and neck pickups hooked up to position 3 of the 5-way switch, along with the middle. Giving me the ability to fade them out separately, to or blend all three together, if I wanted to.
This is my first unconventional wiring setup, and i'm trying to get it just right. Any help would be appreciated!
Glad I found this - I have a 1987 Gibson SG special I was going to sell but no one seems to think it's worth $800, the guitar was completely refinished by me and looks great with NOTHING wrong with it and people think it's only worth at most $400...lol I will keep it for that price, which is what brings me here. I decided to install a kill switch into it, I've never done it but hey it can't be that hard right? LOLOL... I did exactly what you said most people would think to do - it didn't work at all!! So tomorrow I will give the way you said a try and hopefully it will work.
did it work?
Can you install a killswitch to a guitar cable? Based on what you explained here (or how I understood it) you put the + signal into the - (I'm european) to kill the sound.
I wonder how didi you explain such a simple operetion in 9 minutes, that is a miracle
Hey man, not sure whats up, but your killswitch link goes to a generic page.
is it ok if i use 12 awg wire?
Is your switch a NO switch?
I read somewhere about using a resistor between the two switch terminals to totally eliminate the pop from the kill switch. I can't seem to find that information again though. Do you have any thoughts on including a resistor? I've even read some people claim to use a capacitor, but I don't see how that would work right.
the resistor to eliminate popping is for active pickups so the battery doesnt pop.
Good explanation
Great video Thank you.
Thanks earned a sub!!
Thank you so much sir
I forgot how to ground the wires. Can you do a tutorial on that?
Is this the same for a 2 Humbucker with 3 way toggle and single volume and NO tone?
Thanks 👍
yes 4y later 😂
Very cool. Thanks
Ya someone gave me a 4 peg light up arcade button how do you do a light up Killswitch thanx.....k
Dylan how do you get rid of popping sound when you press the killswitch?
buy a new swotch
Dylan, can I use a Dorman switch part number 84822 as a kill switch is very convenient they have them at Walmart and any auto part store ?
I want to use another kind of kill switch, is It possible?
Is it possible to replace a volume with a kill switch on a strat?
I think only with tone
Dylan, have you ever converted a one lead wire humbucker to a four wire humbucker. Is it hard or even worth doing? Gary
Gary Rouleau it can be done as long as the tape and wax is not too brittle.
This video needs more likes
You might consider experimenting with small capacitors between the switch and the hot to absolutely kill any unnecessary sound, removing the "attack" part of the switch.
What sort of capacitor would be
Used am new to this many thanks
If you hooked up the switch to the "hot" wire the guitar would only work when you push the button and turn off when you let the button go.
For this method, you would need to use an always off momentary switch right? I have an always on momentary ahhh! ha.
Momentary killswitch link to amazon is dead :(
I guess somebody kill-switched it... :(
very cool
link to switch doesnt work
Dylan, I think you should do a technical video on that. Thanks Gary
a technical video on what?
DylanTalksTone installing a Killswitch
I cant ground the switch because is made of plastic, but I have the other two pins, Can I use onle them to ground ?
Did you figure this out?
@@firefly5783 Yes, and thanks for det, it's working perfect right now
Awesome thanks for awnsering im abt todo the same
@@firefly5783 Thanks to you my friend , and greetings from Sweden
Secuthor in the same predicament. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you figure it out?
Maybe YOU can answer this question since nobody else can : What is the point of a "Kill Switch" ? When would it be used ?
great presentation when I find a video game button my Les Paul gets it now!
i really like this one amzn.to/2J7vPSC
I used a spst push button switch from Home Depot I got for $4 and you don’t have to drill such a big hole
Luke Doerzbach nice I have a beater Les Paul copy that needs bucketheading
A few of my friends that are really accomplished at setting kill switches in guitars they own have had good luck with the Tesi Killswitch. Apparently they're all video game rated. I think that they run about ten dollars on the Tesi electronics site.
bcrich581 word uP boyee
Best video ever. Made 2 girls one cup look like shit!
A video on converting a single lead humbucker to a four lead humbucker.
ah! I will add it to the list! that's a good idea
Killswitch = buckethead
