I love this trail…hiked it many times and I find I enjoy these places so much more in my adult years…I spend a week out there every year for my birthday it’s one of my favorite places❤️
Thank you Randy for an interesting and quite unique video. I'm glad you reminded people about carrying lots of water and other safety/sun precautions... Many Blessings, Robin :-)
Thanks, Randy for this beautiful, information filled video from a unique (and often forgotten) park. One other important tip is to know your limits. Don’t be afraid to stretch yourself, but just the same, know when to call it to ensure safety and enjoyment for yourself and for those that love you.
I made a trip to Badlands in 2021 and loved it. I hiked the Medicine Loop as well. As an aside, I drove up from Denver after flying in and ended up driving through the Pine Ridge Reservation south of Badlands. It's actually one of the saddest places I ever travelled through in my life. Abject poverty and the site of the Wounded Knee Massacre. Definitely a place I will never forget. It's amazing how some of the most beautiful places can also hold such sadness and ugliness.
Randy, Excellent safety tips, so many people are not prepared for hot and dry trail in full sun. You always make the Badlands looks so good and remind us why this is a National Park. THANK YOU FOR TAKING US WITH YOU ON THE TRAIL, . . . Mike
It's South Dakota, so it's always going to be windy. The last time I was there we watched some students from (I think) South Dakota School of Mines doing excavation of some fossilized pig ancestors. Pretty neat place and often overlooked by those rushing westward to see the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore.
The badlands are indeed very interesting! Yeah, there really is no sun cover at all along any of these trails. Nice that you were able to complete it all!
Another great video! Your videos never disappoint and your positive attitude really shines through. Appreciate all your hard work and dedication towards these adventures and videos. Happy Trails!
Hello America's Park's😊😊, we hit up a bunch of National Parks on our return trip home to RI, and we visited Badlands National Park but we stayed on the road...to hot😄😄, but ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR! Randy, my friend was OUTSTANDING video. Now it's time to plan a trip to....Rainbow Bridge, National Monument😄😄😄👍👍👍👍👍👍!
This was helpful for preparing for our trip there this May. I think with our time constraints and skill level, I'll start at the east end, do the saddle spur, then come back via medicine root.
Ha! We were there about 3 weeks before you, it’s like deja vu! We did this one and there are some short ones like the Widow Trail where we saw some big horn sheep. South Dakota has a feeling of midwestern purity and cleanliness, even in the “Badlands”.
As far as I am concerned the Badlands were misnamed. Although I understand why, to me they are good, good lands. I love hiking in them, driving the loop road, staying at the Cedar Pass cabins, viewing wildlife...yes goodlands indeed.
great hike!! it's good to take way longer than they recommend, that means you got to see more of it for longer ... love badlands type scenery, thanks for taking us with you
The 6.5 mile hike sounds just fine - ha ha! I’m struggling finding good shoes…. This looked like an amazing hike, but maybe I would just do the highlights on the ends 🤣 (a lot of the times we are tag-teaming with doggo).
Amazing video!Great camera work as well, especially considering your a one man crew.Badlands is one of the most unique parks in the system and I hope to make it one day.
Awesome production as usual. I just activated notifications, if you happen to have any footage of the eastern end last tenth of a mile you considered most beautiful I would appreciate to see it.
Yeah that is a really cool landscape! The only other place I know of that looks somewhat similar that is Golden Canyon in Death Valley National Park. You did a long hike but it did seem pretty flat at least so it wasn't a super tiring one. Very cool Randy and thanks for sharing.
Made the water problem myself in Canyonlands, before I became a Ranger in THRO. While not quite as intense, the sun can burn through anything on the Plains. Always back an extra gallon of water per 3 people, and always an extra quart per person. The Badlands, North or South Dakota, give only reprieve during night or thunderstorm, and TRUST ME, you don't want to see God's wrath on the Great Plains.
How often do people tell you that you sound like Norm MacDonald? Love this video. I'm heading to Castle Trail in two days from Ohio. Thanks for preparing me for the hike!
Hello! A lot use "All Trails." I like the "Hiking Project." Can't recall the cell service, check with the park headquarters. If you do the trails in this video, a simple park map, found in the brochure, should be sufficient.
I RECENTLY SAW AN OLDER WEALTHY MAN ADDRESSING AN ISSUE OVER DINNIER. HE SAID, TONIGHT, WE ATR GOING TO ADDRESS THE QUESTION THAT HAS BEEN ON THE MINDS OF ALL MEN EVERYWHERE SINCE HE TOOK HIS FIRST STEPS UNDER THE SUN. THE MOST WANDERED ABOUT EVER. IS MAN TRULY A WALRUS AT HEART?
PLEASE PRAY FOR MY WIFE, WENDY. SHE IS SO DEEPLY HURT BECAUSE APART FROM A MIRACLE, WHICH CAN HAPPEN, WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A BABY OF OUR OWN. SHE NEEDS MUCH PRAYER. ALSO THAT SHE STOPS BLAMING ME FOR IT AND DISTANCING HERSELF FROM ME. ALSO FOR MY WISDOM TO HANDLE THIS AND PATIENCE. TROUBLES ASSERT PATIENCE. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? EVEN HERE I PRAISE YAH, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV) give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. THANX MUCH.
Looks like a great place to enjoy the quiet beauty of Gods creation. I love to see you relaxing and exploring!
Thanks for your blessings on these trips! :)
I thank God for you because the world needs more people like you right now. I love how authentic you are as a person and your amazing UA-cam channel.
Really blessed by your kind and genuine words! ...and thanks for my first donation! :)
Thank you sir. I'm doing this trail for the first time In August 2024 I'm sure it's still hot in day time.

Badlands is a unique park. No other park in the nation has scenery quite like it in my experience.
So true, Eric. It was my first NP back in 1995.

I love Enduro Automatic 😍
Thanks for watching.
Did the medicine trail a few years back, you are spot on about the water and sun. Thanks for the video Randy.
Appreciate that, George!
I've said it many times but I will say it again, I love the music you select for your videos

Just got back a few days ago and it was awesome! Sadly didn't see any rattlesnakes :(
Such a rush to see those snakes in the wild. Glad you had a great trip!
