    hy Tinman, maybe the problem is your 026 with the cold start on your air filter. This filter is normally flocked, but that is long gone. Maybe cleaned too much with compressed air. As a result, the engine gets too much air, even when starting from cold with choke, too much air comes in instead of enriching the gasoline to start better. try a new air filter and it will start better and it will breathe cleaner air. mfg Nils

    Glad to see you got it straightened out! I still believe that the choke and the carb are it’s two worst things on the 026 saw. My 032 has the same choke design but that is from a 42 yr old saw!

    Sounds stable now👍🏻 thanks for showing the whole story behind a rebuild, at least every now and then. Now I understand not every build/rebuild goes smoothly, but when I first got into saws, there were times when seeing others dealing with unexpected issues would've been reassuring. And I'm still learning, just with a little more knowledge and better understanding than when I first dove in!

    I really dislike those filters with the choke mechanism inside, My only saw that still has one is an old 028 that I've had for 30 years. I learned to never try a cheap aftermarket filter! Thanks for this series, Tinman!!!

    works every time - 026 take air cleaner off, plug carb intake with thumb, pull cord slowly till thumb is wet, put back together, choke and start like normal on 1st or 2nd pull instead of the normal 10-15 pulls for the 026

  • @vicheen2932

    I have had my 026 since new. Always started by the 3rd pull from cold until recently. It needed a sniff of starting fluid to light off. Ran lean under load and would slow down and die at idle. Rebuilt the carb. No change. Replaced the cracked impulse hose. Runs as new. Also, avoid aftermarket air filter/choke assemblys. The choke flap won't close fully. Also I would like to see you do the 24" bar result.
    Thanks for your effort!

    I have had 026 for 32 years now. When cold with the choke on it has always took 5-6 pulls to get her to pop. Switch to fast idle, 1 pull and she is purring. I love my 026 with 16" bar.

    What ever was clogging up the carb must have been small and finally let go. Just a thought but did you check the low jet needle maybe it's worn or nicked. Just thinking to myself. Nice to see it running and I agree the stubborn cold start you proved out in anither video to be that choke. Tune that up and baabam it should meet your starting specs. Anxious to saw it cut... for sure. You ever think about cranking up a 55 it is a common home ower saw. Good stuff on this series. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

    There's a part of me that says the saw needs to do that again after sitting for another 3-4 days. Starting today is good, but I don't take confidence in 1 start when it's been a struggle bus. I do think a little fine tuning on the Stihl Choke system will do nothing but help. I was thinking you would have gotten to that a few video's ago, back when the plug was dry.

  • @thomasfrost6993

    one saw i had kept blowing the rings apart, and wouldnt start or run for long, i kept taking it apart, and always the bottom ring would fall out in two pieces. gave up on it and benched it. but just had tge same issue with a cheapy china motor build, so now im intrigued, going to probably keep wrestling this one just to see if i can beat it.

  • @badasswood
    @badasswood 7 днів тому

    hey tinman, i just found on a saw ive been having issues with that the impulse hose may have been collapsing, and over expanding, i had to throw whatever i had in there, and my theory is the ones stihl makes with the ribbing are made so to keep rigid under preasure.🤔

  • @rileyjohnston8393
    @rileyjohnston8393 3 дні тому

    I’ve went through similar difficulties with 026s. Between the choke flap in the air filter and the fuel line being kinked under the carb, the design is kind of prone to these problems. Good saws but I prefer the 034/036 because of those problems with the 026. I find they are a lot easier to work on and make way more power when ported

    I had a 026 that wouldn't start , and i tried this and that and it just wouldn't start easily just like yours. I ended up bending the throttle rod because of the slop in the linkage, your throttle plate NEED TO BE OPEN A BIT when you put it on choke or it wont start easily

    I have a Stihl 011 that requires 10 pulls after it sits. Sometimes I get lucky and it fires in 9. If I use it within a day or two it fires right up in a few pulls. I went through the saw half a dozen times and can never find anything wrong. This model the choke is in the top cover so maybe it's just poor choke design.

    Let her eat! What a head scratcher of a machine, Ive kept yelling out that its lean over the episodes in the low jet, but now it seems fine, although when it was cold I still felt like it was a bit lean. Hopefully its just the choke on the airfilter. Great video Tinman 👍
