@Insane_Ian You actually missed the main thrust of Must Have Been The Wind while pausing. When his mother is comforting him after the young dragonborn steals his sweet roll she tells him to not let small things get him down and just let it go. Because wind passes and even kings fall so you just stay strong and carry on. Basically he's *not oblivious* ! He's *deliberately ignoring* both a *Civil War* and a *Dragon Invasion* and waiting for them to *blow over* ! And even *more incredible* he does it *so happily* that it actually *stops both disasters* because this one guard *refused* to get *stressed* by them!
It's the most *hilarious* and *strangely uplifting* take on that line I can imagine and it's *perfect* !
Another fun little thing to note about the scene right after that it shows him rocking out in the middle of the oblivion gates crisis, which took place over 200 years before Skyrim, and before that, it shows his childhood taking place at the foot of the red mountain pre blight, which was 600 years before Skyrim
Which I think is just a fun little tidbit for all the skyrim lore nerds
it also implies the guard is well over 600 years old, which I find hilarious
This is not a fun little song about an oblivious guard.
This is an anthem for zen stoicism.
Give your asterisk key a rest 😭
Yea u completely lost me I have no idea what your even trying to say. It’s too confusing 😂. Y’all think way too much into this.
@@Mark73Nah it’s definitely about them being oblivious 😂.
fun fact; tom cardy's flute in the video is not a flute, it's a drumstick. a lot of people never notice that until it's pointed out!
Thanks, I can't unsee it now.
Haha finally someone else notice that!!!! It's still such a sassy flute riff which I'm sure he did on his synth! Lol
You know how many days of sleep I lost over that shit? I thought it was a Mandela effect!!!
they all failed the perception check roll
@@xenicatthe layers of the joke is just amazing 😂
The fact that Tom says "Child" at the same time as the DM as if this is a common occurrence in their campaigns is freaking hilarious
he also says "it's always a kid" so yeah, definitely happens a lot. which means his promises to be better are completely hollow
I really love the vibe of the Perception Check song, It's such a good representation of how people portray bards as annoying idiots.
Perception check is peak d&d goblin behavior and I love it.
Nah the goblins would be the targets of this
With "It Must Have Been The Wind", you were close with your thinking on the guard but I just wanted to clarify that the part about the guard putting the Dragonborn (player) in prison. He wasn't attacking the city the guard is a member of, he was actively helping defend the city the guard worked for, and was put in prison for helping try to stop the attack, which I think makes that scene even funnier.
If you use shouts in settlements the guards will actually approach you and tell you to stop, though I don't think they'll actually try to arrest you unless you hit anyone.
"Never put a celebrity on podium
Unless they are Weird Al"

Yess, I just realized that Kevin's songs tend to be negative in tone but upbeat in tune@prehistoricmeatloaf
🎶These motherfuckers mean to harm us, and they got to go, so come on get ‘em now.”🎶 and 🎶“Me and my boys are gonna fuck you up!”🎶 is now two of my go to Bardic Inspiration lines.
I’m 99% sure that the whole reason that “It Must Have Been The Wind” was created was because one of the Chalkeaters were playing Skyrim and got that game breaking bug where the Guards will still try and arrest you during the Siege of Whiterun.
Tom plays backing music for a live comedy show called Dragon Friends where a bunch of comedians play D&D, and in recent seasons he’s also played a few NPCs. As far as I know this is his main exposure to the game and inspiration for the song.
My favorite fact is that it took me watching perception check 7 times before i figured out that the flute is indeed.... not a flute, its a drumstick 😂
So... At the end of "Just the wind" song it was Paimon from Genshin Impact, with a bottle full of Dailies (Daily Quests with Primogem (common reward) shape). Right when doctor said to "play less those addictive games".
The real beauty of Must Have Been the Wind is in the little details you don't pick up until rewatch: There's a Lusty Argonian Maid, the guy selling Skyrim is meant to be Todd Howard, the dance Dragonborn is doing is apparently a JoJo Reference, I believe someone said some of the guys without helmets are Fugdemuppet, and my favourite, more heartwarming than funny, the song doesn't really gain momentum in stopping the battle until he's saved the other two guards, and of course he never got an arrow in the knee - he was never an adventurer like us.
And of course the professor is dressed as Shaegorath
I absolutely LOST it at “gotta loot tha mothaFUCKAAAA” 😭😭 and man, I haven’t thought about BlackGryp0n in a while.
(also… hehe… nice shirt 😁)
Same! And same! (And thanks! lol)
Vicious Mockery is an actual spell.
I love seeing someone experience Tom Cardy for the first time. It's truly magical. No doubt in my mind. This man hyper focused and watched all his content immediately afterwards lol. It's what I did and now shaking Tom Cardy's brilliant hand is on my bucket list lol
I'm a huge TC fan, I love watching and rewatching his stuff, but reacting first time to his stuff is always fun.
I also hope to shake his hand one day...especially since I've been able to award him two separate trophies for his work. 😅
"It Must Have Been the Wind" isn't about not being perceptive or being blind to the world around you, its about not letting those things effect your outlook, not letting the those things blind you to the beauty of the world.
By singing the song to the other guards he gets them to stop fighting somebody else's war and just enjoy time together as the friends they were before being conscripted.
If somebody stole your sweet roll, don't let it ruin your mood, there are other sweet rolls out there.
Amazing how you scrolled past the pinned post that says exactly the same thing to post this. 😅
Time for my 'Um, Actually,' moment because I never get the opportunity: You might laugh at the term Vicious Mockery but it's a real spell in D&D - it's a staple of the Bard class (though it's defended by a saving throw so there's no way to roll a "natural 20" when casting it). Tom Cardy is heavily involved with a D&D podcast/live show so he possibly knows this and is just playing up the stereotype of this kind of player... or just forgot/didn't read the spell. I'd believe either, tbh.
the chalkeaters character you saw is named professor chalk and hes from the songus amongus vid he basically gone insane from among us shaped things and the next song is 100% about genshin impact
I play dnd everyday i can and that song is how every game goes. The chaos but nat 1s is lovely
I didn't even start the video yet and I was already thinking "'My boys are gonna mess you up!', 'I rolled a one", 'I rolled a one', 'They're otherwise engaged'" and the first song you were reacting to was the very song 😅
Ok, those first lines made me laugh!
Sorry that you're tired!
As for explaining jokes...there are lots of references I don't necessarily get, so I appreciate the explanation so I, too, can find amusement.
Skyrim came out 11/11/11. So it's been almost 12 years since it first came out.
Random RPG comedy song: Races. Originally by JoCat (Crap Guide to D&D, has full animation), covered by CamiKat (Xerox-grade cover! but limited animation), runs through all of the races in 5e in song form.
Happy to see your reaction of the new chalkeaters song.
Also the character at the end was from genshin impact, assuming the next song will be about the addictiveness of genshin impact
So happy to see your new reaction!! As usual so fun to watch and loving the inputs
The dragonborn was actually protecting Whiterun from the Stormcloaks so the guard imprisoning him for making him nervous with the thu'um is twice as hilarious 😂
Must have been the wind i feel is also kinda about not letting the things that happened and not to get you down obviously to the nth degree. Especially obvious in the verse about how to let go when somebody stole the dear sweet roll and to carry on. Also the teaser at the end is for genshin impact
It doesn’t have an “arrow to the knee” joke because of what the guard says: “I never was an adventurer.”
I have to say, you do NOT get more Big Rock and Roll Energy than having two freaking dragons showing up to rock out on stage and provide pyrotechnics.
Must have been the wind is so freaking catchy I have to go look it up myself. Excellent.
Paimon looming in the background is so ominous lmao
The offical video for Perception Check is so fucking good
I'll be reacting to that in the new year!
That is Todd Howard selling Skyrim!! Also the background of the guard growing up first in Morrowind with a netch in the background and then Cyrodiil under the Oblivion crisis!
Great song and so many details!
8:20 That's your average D&D murderhobo gang for you.
So, i just thought to search tom cardy reaction and stumbled upon your video about H.S
INSTANT SUBSCRIBE from ME! Can't believe songs that i like is actually called comedy music, love your breakdown, can't wait for more
Awesome, thank you! I have a whole Tom Cardy playlist too, so you can see all the reactions I've done to his videos!
@Insane_Ian you've GOT to check out the Brian David Gilbert & Tom Cardy collaboration; "A Beautiful Mind."
I'm sure you agree that from the paring alone it's worth your time.
See my community posts on my channel to see why I haven't yet. I'm hoping to soon, tho.
YES! I WAS HOPING YOU WOULD SEE THE TOM CARDY THING!
It was absolutely hilarious when I stumbled on it, and knew you’d love it 😂
Just incase you missed it Tom Cardy and Brian David Gilbert did a colab. I can't wait to see your reaction!
I saw, but I'm on hiatus due to a family emergency. I'll be back soon.
@@Insaneian I'm sorry to hear that, I hope everything works out for you and your family
@@MrVashthestamped thanks. Sadly not, check my community posts for more details.
When this song first released a few months ago all I could do was listen to it on youtube, I memorized the entire thing and now that it's on spotify you know damn well I'm singing it in the shower
As someone from West Virginia, I wish I could go to the Fump Fest. Hopefully, I'll be better able to go next year...
I accidentally forgot to watch this one because I've never played Skyrim but my spouse has, so I had to set aside time to watch with them. Finally did it! We were both howling (as the wind also tends to do).
Edit: Now that I'm rewatching... I think "Must Have Been the Wind" might be the perfect counterpart to "Welcome to the Black Parade."
Do like that professor chalk is Dressed like Sheogorath the Daedric prince of madness as he appears in The Mind of Madness quest
I love how the dragon born is just dancing the Jojo torture dance in the end 😂😂😂
chalkeaters always goes hard
That character at the end is Paimon for Genshn, presumably suggesting that the next song is about Genshin, and with the whole doctor thing about not playing these addicting games, it'll likely be a song about the addictive nature of Genshin.
Also, that Tom Cardy song is absolutely hilarious
I appreciate your insights on these--but was there some audio distortion on Tom Cardy's song? It makes it really difficult to listen to... 😅
Thank you yes, there was an issue with the audio that I missed in the edit, sorry about that.
It Must Have Been the Wind is Skyrim's version of 1000 Words. Like in Final Fantasy 10-2, this rock concert restores peace and makes enemies hug.
You're coming here?? To Ohio?? Personally I don't recommend that. This place is terrifying. But you can do whatever you wish, I suppose! Welcome! It's mostly fields!
"Wait, was that a notification of a new Insane Ian video? ... ... No, it must have been the wind."
Oh how I love how the silliest of songs turn out to be the catchiest, most memorable ones.
Brian David Gilbert's "It's time to get good at darts" and "have you seen my laptop" pleaseeeee
The Merchant selling copies of Skyrim is Todd Howard
Must have been the wind is prolly the funniest thing I've seen lately
Merchant selling Skyrim is Todd Howard
That "simple merchent" at the bottom of the hill is none other than Todd Howard himself
I've listened to the song a dozen times and I am only now realizing the missed opportunity to replace 'chin' with 'shin'
A great meme song! By the way, the famous guard meme about taking an arrow through the knee is never said in this song because this specific guard was never an adventurer, so he never took an arrow through the knee
It's notable to mention that "Taking an arrow to the knee" doesn't actually mean getting hit with an arrow, it's Nordic slang for getting married.
tom cardy has been on and as of recently dms for a dnd podcast/show called dragon friends!
Thank you for making this man!! This was so great to watch. Please tell me you checked out "repress it"!!! You were an INSTANT follow! Fuck yes
Thanks! Glad you dug it! I've seen Repress It, but I haven't done a reaction to it because it's too short. But I've reacted to a bunch of his other tracks!
I just realized what happened at the end. The two leaders realizing that their armies have abandoned them and they have no one left to fight on behalf of their grudges against each other.
The reference at the end is Paimon from Genshin I think
I wanted to check. Have you seen the video tom cardy did yet for something in Australia?
(Its called "Time to Buy" for SBS The Feed)
I forget if you've ever answered it before but its part of my constant playlist. Its such a good song. Even if you may not react. Still would love to hear your opinions on it
I think I have that in a playlist of things to react to that I haven't gotten to yet.
@Insaneian awesome. Yeah it's a really REALLY good song (to me at least) and it's alot got a bit more production value behind it so makes it a little bit different also
I personally would love more Hobobard songs from Tom eventually.
i feel ya man
ps: holy hell, the lord still anserd, and it´s been only 4 month´s 💀
Bruh he just put his own guard in jail for attacking the attackers
First time viewer.. However a fan already. You remind me of an old friend that passed. And weird enough it is my 30th birthday today. lol
Sorry to hear about your friend, but hopefully a happy birthday to you!
@@Insaneian This means a lot to be honest. Thank you
You definitely need to check out One More Pull that Must have been the Wind hinted at the end of the song
Ugh...but I hate Genshin Impact! 😅
That’s paimon from Genshin impact they made a song called One More Pull
What bothers me most is actually the line about the spear stuck in the shield as i am still sad that spears were removed from every game after morrowind...
the next Chalkeater video is out... maybe 2 in a week... even if you don't know Genshin Impact. it has alot of jokes targeted at Microtransactions in general
Oh boy, sound is really messed up at 5:28, wrong rendering settings perhaps for audio?
glad it's not just me
Weird, sorry about that. I had some issues importing the footage when I was editing, I wonder if that affected that there.
@@Insaneian Yeah it strangly started after you unpaused. But don't worery it didn't effect things too much.
@@Insaneian yeah it is really crunchy after you unpause, hurt to hear
@@gibbbon so sorry about that
If you listened to the Dragon Friends podcast, you would know this is based on Michael Hing, who is an excellent broadcaster and comedian and absolutely fucking unhinged D&D player.
The new BDG song features Tom Cardy!
I saw!
I am on hiatus for a bit due to the death of my father. I'll try to get to it when I get back.
I’m surprised you’ve not reacted to Bill Bailey, Ian. He’s basically the foremost comedy musician in the U.K.
The character from the end is from Genjin impact
You'll make a reaction to BDG's and Tom Cardys beautifull mind right?
I will eventually, but I'm currently on hiatus due to the death of my father.
@@Insaneian omg im so sorry to hear that
The last character showed was Paimon from Genshin Impact
That skyrim band was pretty great lol i choked on my beer a couple times lol.
Dammit! ohio gets all the fun shit!!! Would I come from quebec Canada to see this in person? Yes... absolutely lol
Well, we'll be back there next year! Time to plan ahead! 😅
I hope you react to the tom cardy bdg collab song
I will when I come back from hiatus.
I mean, you don't actually roll for Vicious Mockery (opponent just has to be within range of hearing) and the description in the lyrics is OP AF, but why let actual game mechanics get in the way of a good song? (as every bard everywhere would agree)
👍
Have you listened to H.Y.C.Y.B.H. by Tom Cardy yet?
Also, just so you are aware the audio quality of Tom's video is a bit fuzzy in the middle.
I heard it before I started reacting to his songs. In fact, I covered it last year.
And yes, I know about the audio, several folks have pointed it out. Sorry about that.
I had a quick scroll through your playlist and didn't see it there. Glad to know you have heard it though.
No stress for me, I had listened to the song a half dozon or so times before anyway =D
I am always that guy in any D&D campaign
Day 1 of asking for more BDG reactions
If I can get my capture laptop to work properly, a new one will be around soon!
@@Insaneian nice, thanks!
the fuck happened to the audio on this one
Like I said in another comment here...I'm not sure. I had an issue importing the footage when I was editing and didn't catch the audio issue. Sorry about that.
You should listen to more random encounters songs
I'm hoping to!
@@Insaneian ☺
Am I the only one who gets weird distortion every time the video is rewound in order to continue watching?
No, there's quite a few comments on this one about that. Seems there was an audio glitch I missed in the edit (not that I would have been able to do much about it)...sorry about that.
@@Insaneian Kein problem. Just something I've noticed every once in a while only specifically when you rewind. Still absolutely love the reactions that ACTUALLY add something to the original content.
You should be apologizing not for the light, but the crappy crackly sound.
I had no idea the sound did that until editing. And even then, I didn't realize it was pervasive through the whole video. Sorry.
While i do like Blackgryph0n i still find his realtionships with the vas of mlp cast super fucking weird and no matter if internet forgot it i did not , the fact that he hung out with those girls when they were still young then became part of the "family" that and later started dating on of them is suspicius as hell anyway rant over sorry i went offtopic./
Anyway love both Sonfs Tom nailed it as always same with chalkeaters and Blackgryph0n the singing and refrences mixed with easter eggs were just perfect
perception check is such a funny song ontop of sounding so so good
