    My mom and I were driving from Washington to Montana to visit my grandpa back in 2000. We stopped in Wallace to get gas and some food, but I noticed that the place seemed familiar. We drove by a shop and I saw a big sign that said "Welcome to Dante's Peak" and I freaked out. I loved this movie so i was very familiar with it. We drove around to find where the mine was and stopped to get some souvenirs. I still have a post card with the banner from the festival they had in the movie and pictures of how they made the huge piles of ash around the town. It is still one of the coolest things I've ever stumbled upon.

    I lived here when they filmed. I was on the bridge watching them film the scene when they cross the river with the SUV and I worked in the restaurant where the bar was. Very cool to see what they did.

      Did the Suburban "SUV" make it across the river under it's own power or was it pulled/towed across? always want to know

    • @MisterReltec
      @MisterReltec 3 роки тому +2

      @@AL-ud2is When I was there, it was being held by a cable as they waited for the car to hit it. In short, I didn’t see it come out of the water. Here’s the long: when they come crashing through the trees and into the water, all of the trees were actually tree branches that were shoved into pieces of pvc in the ground. I assume because they break easily. Then the Suburban was being held in place while the car hit the Suburban over and over. The car was somehow made floatable and had a cable hooked to it as well. Right before they would start filming, two jet skies would circle around the Suburban to simulate wake as if they just hit the water and then a guy would release the car to hit them. They would reset and do it again. Pretty cool to watch.

      emp0rizzle I had a vhs tape for Dante’s Peak when I was young in the mid 2000s and along with the movie, there was a bloopers and behind the scenes at the very end of the credits. They remade a miniature volcano to it and they detonated from the funnel and smoke and tiny rock cane shooting upwards, that’s probably what they used for the scenes from getting out of town scenes and all around those parts lol

    Although they were filming this around Wallace, I'd like to add that Pierce Brosnon was residing in Post Falls. It was my 2nd year having a car, so I was driving around a lot. I would pass by Pierce as he jogged alone through the neighborhood. I saw him several times, and nobody believed me until one of our neighbors confirmed it.
    I remember waving and he saw me, returning the kind gesture. He wasn't the only movie star or professional athlete who we'd see. It was kind of a community pride thing, where they could be here and not become hassled by any of us.
    Maybe more than 5 years ago, I was driving away from a job site in Coeur d'Alene and passed by a house with a guy 100% identical to Kid Rock, just didn't think anything of it. He was standing in front of a random house alone but with some dog. Kept it to myself, and later people lit up social media with their reported sightings & pictures. He was visiting friends/family. Travolta has been up here...his mom lives nearby, so he'd visit often, too, until she passed away (I believe she did).

    Wow, incredible how they cleaned up after all of that devastation. And to think the volcano's eruption was so powerful that it reduced the mountain to less than a quarter of its size, you can't even see it in the pictures anymore. Just amazing! So glad Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton made it out okay. I heard they were filming some kind of romantic comedy in the town there when all hell broke loose.

    The one thing is They used a number of miniature models for some of the shots. Example, the army trucks going across the bridge and the town covered in ash is all miniatures. Just shows how well they made it look.
