- I tell my story on how I became paralyzed from the waist down 31 years ago. After living my life these past 31 years being paralyzed, I have forgotten how sad it was when I first got hurt injured. I will be sharing some vulnerable moments, but I hope it will help those who are unfortunately starting a similar journey. This is part one of "Life With a Spinal Cord Injury" in honor of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month.

I was injured in 2001, about 6 months before 9/11. You're doing quite well for the length of time this has been going on. It sparked a spiritual awakening that brought me to places that I probably wouldn't have gone otherwise. I've experienced Ephesians 5:14, which I didn't previously Innerstand.
God bless you, coach Vic! You're an awesome example of how you can live a full life after sci. ❤🙏❤️
I appreciate you telling your story CoachVic. Thank you for sharing. I actually started following your UA-cam channel a couple/few weeks ago. I can relate to a lot of what you said here as you shared with us. Had me a little emotional in some stories! One thing I’ve learned though a couple of decades ago is to say; I was in a Car Crash not a Car Accident. My doctors back then didn’t give my parents much hope that I’d make it through the night. It will be 40 years for myself on 11-11-20 since my car crash that left me a paraplegic T-4/5 complete as a young 19 year old woman. I was life flighted to a trauma hospital around 1a.m. and was in a coma for three days. Was in the hospital for a month before being transported to Sharps Rehab in San Diego where I spent the next 5 months before being discharged and living a new way of life in a wheelchair. I’m blessed to have given birth a baby daughter who is now 22.
Thanks for sharing. Sounds like we have very similar stories. I’m a T7 complete. Being pregnant was the greatest thing ever!!
Basic Para Stuff with CoachVic Hi CoachVic, Our stories are similar in ways! I had commented on Chelsie’s UA-cam channel about being a parent not too long ago and you had made a reply to me on my post. I checked out your acct and followed you😀
Cheryl California ... yes, recognized your name.
Basic Para Stuff with CoachVic Awesome.

It's hard to find the right person
*"Those lessons are not paranoia, they are called wisdom"* That is an amazing quote.
Love y’all coaches! Love that y’all are doing this and I love all your videos. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks!!
I’ve really loved watching your videos. I’m only 3 months into my SCI. It makes me feel better to hear others tell their story. The part about people being shocked and you consoling them instead of the other way around. Yep! 💜
Glad you’ve enjoyed the videos. SCI’s are tough , but somehow, we manage! 😀 I’m 31 years post injury and I’m STILL consoling others!! 😂😂 I hope you’re doing well!
I added you to my public Playlist "IN AN INSTANT"
Thank you for sharing
❤
Enjoyed learning on this one. Looking forward to future videos.
Thanks!!
Thank you and Bob for sharing. I've always wondered what happened. I'm glad God has helped you to be able to deal with this and be so happy like what we see on the videos. I love the sense of humor you and Bob have together.
Thanks!! Bob helps make life easier!! 😎
Amazing story Coach Vic. Words escape me, but you have achieved so much by sheer determination (and faith). I know this video is intended for others who have sustained life changing injuries, but it’s equally appropriate for anyone. You show everyone how to really ‘live’, no matter your physical abilities. Thank you for sharing. You and Coach Bob are truly positive influences in today’s world.
... Thanks for the kind words! Paralysis is a tough, but, yes, through the Grace of God, I get up each day and keep moving!! ‘Im touched that it reached you!!
I had to chuckle at the 12:30 mark, as I pulled the vac hose out of my nose twice in one night during a 9 day hospital stay. They threatened to strap my wrists if I did it again. Incredibly educational video. Thank you for sharing. Because of life experiences (not mine, thankfully) I’ve become a mental health advocate, I’m so impressed that you advocate for others. Amazing couple, amazing woman, amazing video. I’m impressed and I’m not easily impressed!
....Yeah, those tubes/IV’s were crazy!! Thanks for clicking over to my channel. Glad you enjoyed it!! I’m trying (slowly) to get it going. I appreciate your kind words. What put you in the hospital for nine days??
You go Lady, Outstanding
Thanks!😎
Coaches, thank you for this very informative video. Coach Vic I said once before that you are awesome and I say it again. I love your attitude. Coach Bob I love your attention to Coach Vic also. Carry on Coaches. 😎👍👍
I appreciate the comment and kind words!
@@BasicParaStuffwithCoachVic you're very welcome.
Thank You For Sharing Your Story. You Are So Beautiful Inside And Out!💖🥰💖
On my. Sweet comment. Thanks. Thanks for watching. 😎
What a compelling story! Thank you so much for the inspiration. My wife and I have been watching your Spyder videos to help us plan and dream, but this was really an added bonus! Your story is helping to give our story a voice, and to know that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. My wife has been on oxygen full time for over 15 years, and is now on 4 liters per minute, and we have had to learn how to adapt and innovate in order to continue our love of travelling. We have learned so much about how to overcome the obstacles safely, and we want to help others so that oxygen dependent travelers can still go by car, van, rv, plane, boat or bike, and don't have to continually reinvent the wheel. As we go through your videos, I'm working on plans for a Spyder Limited that supports a larger portable oxygen concentrator with backup, and a trailer like yours with a generator that powers a home unit like the one that we carry in our SUV. We hope to start by blogging and telling our story very soon. We get so much inspiration from you two and others. Your story is personal and unique, and I learned a lot from hearing it. Please keep expressing yourself!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Living with paralysis isn’t easy, but I keep trying to live life as positive as possible!! Sharing the ride with coachbob has been phenomenal .... on the Spyder and with life in general!! It excites me to know that I’ve made in a difference in your life!! Get the Spyder!! You’re gonna have a blast! Thank you for your encouragement!!
God bless you coach bob and coach vic. I'm impressed the love you all have for each other! How you find ways to help your wife to enjoy life! That's what is sooo good about the can am spyder! The smile you have on your face knowing your wife is behind you enjoying the wind and beautiful days riding your can am! As a couple you guys are inspirational!
Coach Vic, you spoke of nor working. Well in my humble opinion you did work and at probably one of the most rewarding, difficult and important jobs. Domestic Engineer.
That I did… Domestic Engineer. Best job ever!! 😎
Coach Bob3...you have no clue how bad your advice was at 17:30. Many people in wheelchairs have really bad attitudes and they seriously resent people who ask them if they want to help. They feel as if the one asking to help are being demeaning.
I had the same experience although there were times when an offer to help was welcome.Problem is you never know what to expect.
Definitely a good guy. At first I thought they met before the accident. I was like wow, he stayed with her. But when I learned they met after, things made more sense. Like, he knew the deal when he came in. Would I have stayed with her if we had met before the accident? Probably not. I guess I am not that giving a person in that sense.
My husband is awesome!

What is the technical terms of your SCI, is it T7 complete? Do you have flaccid or spastic paraplegia? Is there any sensation at all in your feet and toes?
Why is he speaking on your behalf? He can’t help himself!??
I wanted to hear the story from you.

Delores Freeman .... 😂😂😂 Thanks for watching, though!!
