i never understand anything from these shorts, but i still like watching them
simplicity is key.. start on A minor go to E7.. repeat… put your heart into it.
Same here, brother
@@jesusislukeskywalker4294 the A minor and E7 that i know are so different from this ones lol.
Legit like "heres a short and simple lesson" then proceeds to play the most complicated thing
@@dreadmink8577 exactly. I’ve never learned anything from these.
“Quick lesson”…. I proceed to study this for years.
Totally GOLD!!!
When you want to practice that I-V but that IX-V is getting in the way. xD
IX didnt exist as chord in key, if im not mistaken
@@Roberto-nn6kb Hehe it was a joke, IX-V would in modern numbers be 9-5 and it was meant to be a musical joke.
9-5 is another term for "Work" or a "Job" and the joke was that my job life gets in the way of my guitar practice but in a musically comedic way. 😉👍
@@gamma2816 shame on me, didnt realised that😅
@@Roberto-nn6kb No worries my man. 😝
I thought you were saying final fantasy was getting in the way! Lol
I have absolutely no idea what Rick is talking about in 99% of these videos.
Advice: "just do this and that, should sound good"
*Becomes Beethoven*
"See, easy."
"Draw the rest of the owl" vibes 😂
😂😂
"Warm-up" he says 😅🤣
Rick’s love for Bach clearly permeates here!
Quick lesson: do this
Me: 🤯🤯🤯
I almost have it. I see you visualize scales across the entire fretboard. I need to open up my scale vision.
Your third eye

👃
👄
Literally though yes. You have to visualise the scales/shapes or you won't be able to navigate the fretboard. A good practice is to try and play scales with just your eyes (obv they wont make a sound)
@@gitsurfer27 i’ve found it’s beneficial to play guitar in the dark
Check out the Grand unification pattern on UA-cam it's a video on a guitar concept that could help for scale vision
And then you get into alternate tunings 🫠
The F on E7 is killer! 💥
Rick - I love these shorts and would listen to a whole album of them!
That was a great short lesson Rick, cheers!
I just got the Beato bundle for my birthday. I hope this one makes it into the Quick Lessons Pro.
I almost thought I was hearing the solo from Hotel California
I need to purchase these Beato music lessons. Rick is my informal music professor 😀.
Don’t do it, he’s a fantastic musician with interesting videos, but the paid lessons are really sub par
@@melancholicegg1000 got any recommendation for alternative?
I did... They make as much sense as the video. I like the video, but...
@@saladman9610 Justin Guitar is pretty solid
@@melancholicegg1000 I've watched several videos on his channel and they're always overly complicated and confusing
One of the best free teachers on the internet
I like to blend these ideas into my pentatonic licks.
how do i ever remember these shapes? how do i even start to understanding them. Do i really have to memorize all notes on the neck where they are and also memorize how a minor goes and somehow just know how to do it. I dont understand.
You dont have to memorize all the notes in the beginning. Just start with playing e minor pentatonic over an e minor backing track and learning all the positions of the scale. Then learn the natural minor scale (3 notes per string instead of 2). Learning the notes on the fretboard is only really helpful when you want to outline the chords in the chord progression but you dont need that in the start! Hope this helps
No need to memorise it all at once. It's a marathon not a sprint. Break it down into sections and build it up.
Incremental increases are the way to go. Start with the first 4 or 8 notes. Slowly, building up speed as you go. Get those down then start adding the rest. Before you know it you'll be playing it with your eyes closed.
Great to have the fretboard like that in the video to visualize what you’re playing and explaining!
The inclusion of the fretboard highlights makes these lessons actually graspable for me! Thank you very much man!
Great vid.. definitely will be putting that into practice. Cheer maestro
This can be taken in so many different directions, simple yet VERY effective!
Rick, that SG is CLEAN!!!!!! I love it!
Well that's quick, I have to slow it down, to see your hands, you're amazing Sir.
So, that is 1 to 5 progression on a minor scale? I'm used to calling that 6 to 3 progression as if it's the major scale. But the 3 normally has a minor tonality!?! What the!
Correct, lots of gospel songs utilize a dominant 3rd just like it relates to a 1 to 5 in a minor key. The 5 can be dominant too but really depends what you want, adding the 7 will add attention for the listeners but don't think about it too much man.
I usually warm up with some false harmonic dive bombs on the whammy first 🎉😂
Great lesson!!!!
That's Amazing! 👏🏼
The tabs really help!
I can't get over the fact how good are you on guitar
You are great at getting people confused Rick 🤣🤣🤣
Beautiful thank you so much sir.
I really like the tone of the guitar in this
I’d love to see this idea broken down and explained a bit more in a proper lesson length!
Do more of this 🙏
Lovely chords, remember to use the speed option on youtube to find out the actual notes. (Speed can be reduced with the notes played in TUNE!)
Really really awesome.. your intro and leads tops and this are like the icing
RICK, that SG is FANTASTIC! (like your mad skills)
That warm up was awesome
Just a fantastic sound!!! 👌
His warmups are sick!!!
I would love to get some explanation on the "extra" notes that are tossed in. On the A minor you throw in the 4th and the 2nd sporadically, on the E7 you throw in the 4th a lot, as well as occasionally the 6th. I get that these notes are in the corresponding scales, but they're not in the chord, so how do you know when to play those bonus notes or not? I'd also love to understand why the flat 9th, that one seems really spicy, because it's not in the chord or the corresponding scale, I guess it gives a sort of Phrygian feel when that note comes in, but what's the theory behind why you're using it where you do?
I wish i could have this guy as my personal teacher. He is a brilliant guitarist
It's been just over a year since I've been there, but I hope when I go there again, your signature Gibson is front and center in the House of Guitars window, you're the best Rick
Oh, I never realized how simple it was.
sarcasm? 😊
Brings back memories of my music teacher instructing me this very same progression.
WOW-that just knocked the socks off my feet- I wasn’t expecting anything that intricate- very well done 👍❤️
I see now why music school saves a lot of time. Many years of one's life.
Every day is a few more tools like this... In the box.
This guy is a beast of a player.....
Wonderful , it sounds lika a classic piece
I need lessons for Rick Beatos lessons
He said it again, I almost thought he wouldn't. Awesome I'll get work on it
Do you give personal lessons? I’d like to be able to learn more theory and really master the guitar. At some point.
This is really beautiful.
Yeah, that's a warm up for you.
That's the whole guitar playing session for me. 😀
Although I am a guitarist, I find it easier to understand the 'expensive chords' laid out on a keyboard... as long as its the first inversion.... and in C... as soon as the they root note is moved from the lowest note, I'm screwed. lol
That’s is Amazing 🤩
Nice!
My teacher, Vincent Bredice, would have us do this same basic exercise, except we would change from major to minor each time. For example A(maj)-E7-Am-E7 A-E7-Am-E7...repeat.
Oh, and one more thing. We had to first do this exercise in the First Position, using open strings whenever possible, and, of course, in every key. Makes the rest of the fingerboard seem easy.
my man says "quick lesson" and "warming up" then goes full expert real quick
That's pretty sick Rick. 🫠
“Like that”
*me, still awestruck, unable to move with my mouth salivating whilst staring at my phone screen* “Uh huh, whatever you say”
Rick is great. Love him. I can't keep up with him though, he teaches at his level.
So good!
There is a ton you can do with this, listen to Cacophony (Marty Friedman & Jason Becker when they're around 17!) And just jam this backward and forward. Try raising a third and seventh too, you get a really tasty minor harmonic vibe
I have loved music theory for years and years since I discovered it's basically pretty simple, but applying it to my fretboard, which is so do-able because I almost also know the notes on the frets is absolutely impossible because of my LAZY-ASS procrastination.
Rick gives everyone free tools (like HERE) beyond his insanely good pay-to lesson instructions, and truly wants others to not only play well, but to feel good, and confident, in doing so.
Please check out his channel.
He's the f*cking bomb.
Rick please do a video talking about Nick Jonston!
Amin to E7 is unmistakable. Amin to E min 7) would be a little less obvious. Still good lessons!
Beautiful SG.
Whoa that guitar is amazing looking.
Looks like a Gibson SG.
i love it.. sounds like heaven .
Just like heaven...
The guitar tho drooling 🤤
When you'd appreciate a tab so you can get into learning progressions better...
Damn. Bastard Rick. I love it.
Guitar is my favorite instrument don't play but love the videos 👍
Cool. Classical music sound.
Rick “Like That” Beato! 👍
Very nice!
Awesome doing it today
Take a look at my blind recording. No counting on either tracks.
It would be helpful to know what the fret diagram is supposed to represent. Are they scales, arpeggios, or just a custom riff?
Think of it as arpeggios but using sections of scales to show the finger positions. When you target the notes from a chord you are arpeggiating that chord if I understand correctly.
Great video. More just like this. Musicians need to learn to change chords/keys
What scale bro? ..that's awesome
Awesome!
Beautiful sg
I never really play scales but rather like a 12 tone approach.its always better to just play and not worry about all the technical music theory.
Never have I liked an sg until I saw yours
this is so cool
Thank you for slyly incorporating classical theory into the current music narrative.
That's awesome
I love Am to Em... Always sounds so sad.
Opening lick sounded like Hotel California
what scale were you using? i want to try it
Question: why’d you become a drummer?
Answer: watch this video.
I want to hire you to teach me theory how much???
That’s got a very ‘Queen’ sound. Wish I could play guitar.
It’s Yngwie , just slower
Pelham blue sg / lp. Is amazing.
This is true . Good stuff.. best for me is just feel .listener's are intruding. I'm not a guitarist but I live in a dungeon.
I jest Rick. If I only had 1/100th of your knowledge .
Where do I learn more?
Each arpeggios have there own little chord shape. Just think about moving to the next A minor chord shape that’s in the bigger picture of the whole arpeggios if that makes sense?
