    • @catsittingcomfortably
      @catsittingcomfortably Рік тому

      You dont have to memorize all the notes in the beginning. Just start with playing e minor pentatonic over an e minor backing track and learning all the positions of the scale. Then learn the natural minor scale (3 notes per string instead of 2). Learning the notes on the fretboard is only really helpful when you want to outline the chords in the chord progression but you dont need that in the start! Hope this helps

    • @N3gativeR3FLUX
      @N3gativeR3FLUX Рік тому

      No need to memorise it all at once. It's a marathon not a sprint. Break it down into sections and build it up.
      Incremental increases are the way to go. Start with the first 4 or 8 notes. Slowly, building up speed as you go. Get those down then start adding the rest. Before you know it you'll be playing it with your eyes closed.

    I would love to get some explanation on the "extra" notes that are tossed in. On the A minor you throw in the 4th and the 2nd sporadically, on the E7 you throw in the 4th a lot, as well as occasionally the 6th. I get that these notes are in the corresponding scales, but they're not in the chord, so how do you know when to play those bonus notes or not? I'd also love to understand why the flat 9th, that one seems really spicy, because it's not in the chord or the corresponding scale, I guess it gives a sort of Phrygian feel when that note comes in, but what's the theory behind why you're using it where you do?

    • @veco5731
      @veco5731 Рік тому +1

      Correct, lots of gospel songs utilize a dominant 3rd just like it relates to a 1 to 5 in a minor key. The 5 can be dominant too but really depends what you want, adding the 7 will add attention for the listeners but don't think about it too much man.
