Hey Collin, i will explain you how the legit stuff is ending up in the bazaars. The big brands, mostly, do not own factories, they just contract deals with external manufacturers for a season or two depending on what they want to produce. A lot of the textile manufacturers are in Turkey (the sewing operations requires labor work, which is fairly cheap in turkey, and Europe is very close so transport cost is also cheap). So for example NIKE is contracting with a factory in turkey to produce 10000 hoodies, Nike provides the cutting pattern and the brief for the textile quality. Let's say the agreed price between Nike and the factory is 5$/Piece. Both parties have full visibility over the cost breakdown that follows ( at least it is what NIKE is thinking). We break down this price: 2$ Raw mat + 2$ production cost + 1$ the Factory's fee (Pure profit) = 5$ / Piece. The factory in Turkey produces and ships the 10000 hoodies to NIKE wherever they are. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ HOWEVER in reality, in order to make an increased profit on NIKE and make some other profit on the gray/black market, the factory in turkey produces 20000 hoodies ( higher runs of production decrease manufacturing prices at the end ). By sourcing more raw material, they achieve more savings internally and more savings on the piece price as the run is higher. FOR EXAMPLE (The real picture (factory's view) : 1) The deal with NIKE (10000 Units): 1.5$ raw mat + 1.5$ Production cost+ 2$ Pure profit => They said to NIKE they would make 10000 $ Profit on the 10000 Units but in reality they are making 20000$ Pure profit... 2) The extra 10000 Units from the production: Let's say they sell to the bazaar retailers the hoodies for 7$/ Units. It means they they are extracting 4$ of pure profit from the grey/black market which means 40000$ pure profit from the black market. TOTAL : for an original deal of achieving 10000$ with NIKE, they are making 20000$ Legally and 40000$ illegally = 60000$. This business is very very profitable do not doubt it :).
This is probably true for those cheap brands such as Adidas, Nike etc. But not for the high end brands, as they usually have parts done and the other parts finished in their factories in France, Italy, US to put on their "made in ... " label and other stuff.
@@AhmedHassan-vq8ou The rule for the "Made in ... branding" requires at least one operation of assembling done in the country to be able to brand it Made in this country. One famous example is Raybans. All the parts are manufactured in China, some of the assembling is done in Italy so they can claim made in Italy. As for clothes, the sole operation of stitching the label inside the hoodie in France, would qualify the hoodie as made in France. I work in manufacturing luxury goods. Our most high end products are manufactured in China and some assembling operations are done in France, US, Italy. Just to claim the Made in... Luxury brands make you believe that you get a very high end product as you think it was made in Europe but 95% is produced in Low cost countries :). Net margin is King.
