Paul was an absolutely brilliant character in Eastenders. And the actor who played him, Gary Beadle, was an outstanding actor - I don't think it's an exaggeration to say he's one of the best actors to ever appear in Eastenders. Certainly he is one of the most underrated. His portrayal of Paul from start to finish, in every storyline he was involved, was absolutely magnificent.
I 100% agree with you, it's really sad the direction the show took his character in which prompted him to leave - Gary Beadle is a hugely underrated talent in British media.

Dennis and Alfie had trouble holding Paul against the wall and it's sad that Alfie is the only survivor of those 3 great characters since Dennis and Paul both got killed

Paul Trueman, Andy Hunter, Dennis Rickman, Johnny Allen, David Sullivan, Steve Owen, The Firm, all truly great days, with truly great characters. EE could go back to being a quality show, if it went back to the Firm or they came back and caused some real issues for Phil and he was finally beaten. It's been quality to see him dominate for so long, but if they came back out the woodwork and beat Phil. Bring back The Firm!

Phyllis because she know how to push a person's Anger Buttons. Dinah because she never learns from past mistakes and repeats them.

He was killed off because he wanted to leave. And when he told the producers he wanted to leave he wasn't happy with the storyline (him turning into a drug dealer) because he thought it was stereotypical (black man, drugs, same ole racist sh!t!)
2004 was for me the year Eastenders went downhill and I semi stopped watching (it started losing its edge in 2002 and 2003 but was still good) before stopping in 2006. However, Paul Trueman was one of the few good things about Eastenders in 2004.
Another Frightening Scene was with Tonya Lee Williams who played Olivia Barber Hastings on The Young & The Restelss when she found out her Husband Cheated on her with a Woman who was HIV Positive and she may have gotten it. Needless to say she was so mind-blowing and after she did the Scene folks were scared to go near her.

It only took 2 to hold Paul back, well just 1 really cause Dennis was restraining him more than Alfie. Alfie just opened the door and followed cause it was his pub.
