    You can almost see that Den has been holding back up to this point. That he knew what to go for if he really wanted rid of Dennis. He'd tried everything else, and even when he does come out with it there is a look of regret on his face, like he doesn't want to go there still. It's only when Dennis accuses him of being jealous does he finally snap and go for the jugular. There is DEFO an undertone of Den being just a little too much in love with his daughter.

      Yeah Paul was a tough guy to be honest even phil struggled to hold him back once as well just a shame Paul didn't have more fights cause he wasn't actually a pushover either unless if it was Andy or angel but that's cause they were gangsters otherwise Paul would probably beat them. But I liked Paul as a character Espically when he always had a cigarette in his mouth lol. I heard of someone before him and beppe had a fight apparently, but I doubt its true but it would of been a good fight probably both on the same level.

    It's one of the great shames of the show that Dennis never got to hit Den- he would have probably taken his head off. There were multiple occasions where it could have happened but you could tell the writers were keen to emphasise the respect and hold that Den had over Dennis. And here they had to show how low Den could go, but still come out the winner. But in Den's time back in 2003-05, I'd have loved for Dennis to knock him out, he'd have deserved it.

    • @gravy180rs
      @gravy180rs 2 роки тому

      Yeah same I was never sure I liked the direction they took Dens character in his return, he just seemed like he’d changed from his old self back in the 80’s to being little more than a bitter, twisted and jealous old man.

  • @Senate300

      Senate300 The way Dennis froze when Den brought up the insinuation he was abused in care pretty much confirmed it was true. And Den knew it was true in that moment that Dennis froze. That why Den closes his eyes and looks to the ceiling afterwards. He said it to hurt Dennis but when he realised it was true he regretted it.
      That's why Den called Dennis back when he started to walk off. He was probably going to call a truce. But then Dennis hit back with his comment that Den was jealous and wanted Sharon to himself. Then Den felt all bets were off and hurt Dennis even more with the abuse comments.

      Secret Guy 18M watched his 2003 return! The shite plots given to him in 2004 along with the fairground disaster and the Ferrieras were the reason for the rating plummet

    • @gazzyb1079
      @gazzyb1079 4 роки тому +1

      Secret Guy that’s not true because the show had it’s best ratings that year during his return week, at lest 16 million tuned in. 2003 was such turmoil for the show in general with cast illness, pregnancy and off screen problems, the media had a field day and really created a negative narrative towards the show. Storylines had to be rewritten and the BBC had yet to provide the adequate man power to help drive the show produce four episodes a week.

I don't think he could ever bring himself to talk about that but you can see by his reaction to Den's comments about it that it was true. I wish he had told Sharon though and he worked through the trauma. It would have been a great storyline and raised awareness about boy's being abused too and that it isn't their fault etc. Boys being se*ually abused wasn't talked about back then.

      I don't think the show brings it up again, which is a shame. I think Dennis should have at least told Sharon what Den said! But Den is saying that Dennis was se*ually abused by an adult as a kid when he was in care. Someone who was supposed to be taking care of him. By Dennis' hurt reaction we can see that this is correct but he doesn't want to admit it.
      It would have been a great storyline to see Dennis work through this trauma but alas, this wasn't explored. So evil of Den to use that trauma against Dennis!

    Watch Den from 2:36 - 2:41. He changes from going towards Sharon to just standing there, then back going towards her.
    Poor editing.

      ***** No, you can see Den's body language change out of sequence.

      Thought the same. Some folk said it was Sean Slater that was a 'substitute' of sorts for Dennis...Nah - defo Joey ;)

      Joey just wasn't as hard as Dennis. Dennis would batter joey quite easy and joey exit was quite bad to but least he can come back in the future I suppose.

      @@fancy0face No, sean was more like dennis than joey was imo

    Paul Trueman did exactly this with Janine in the pub. Lazy writing. Doing two scenes almost identical.

      Who Den or Dennis?? Dennis was trying obviously restrained, Den never wanted to hit Dennis. He wanted to have him seem like a violent animal, have Sharon turn on him, and have a reason for him to be killed. Which he was.

    Eastenders was at its very best with Mitchells watts Phil Grant Dennis Den They should do a storyline where a oldish guy who turns out to be the brother of Dirty Den Watts and he brings his family to the square den’s brother buys the vic and takes on Phil Mitchell

      As crazy as this sounds, I'd love to do a stint as Dirty Den's American nephew. I always wanted to get into the arts. It might be a lot of fun and get me out of the problems I have right now.
