    After some 50 years playing anglo entirely by ear, my playing days are numbered by rheumatoid arthritis but ....... perhaps in the next life ?
    Lovely playing fella !

    Wonderful arrangement with masterful phrasing. All the while you make it look so easy because of your practice and mastery of your concertina.

    Ahhh, thank you ! You inspire me to learn more use of my left hand, just using it for drones right now. I bought an Elise this Spring, but am already tempted to trade up for a Troubadour to get the missing Sharps.
    I love the expressiveness you bring out of yours, soulful.

    Thank you for a masterful version of this music. It was wonderful to hear you play. I have a question for you. I am thinking about learning to play a concertina and am leaning towards a duet as I play the piano and I think the set-up of a duet would make the transition easier for me... I have definitely ruled out an Anglo for sure! Could you share a recommendation for a beginner's duet concertina with a balance between good tone and price? Thank you! Liz

    • @Soloduet0703
      @Soloduet0703  4 роки тому +2

      Thank you very much Liz! For now the best beginner's duet concertinas are the Elise and the Troubadour from Concertina Connection. Mine is the Beaumont from the Button Box, with a wider range but also more expensive. If you get a duet and need some sheet music just drop me an e-mail.

      @@Soloduet0703 Thank you for the information! I will definitely check out Concertina Connection. I have moved along in my decision process and am definitely going to order a duet concertina. Beautiful! I am looking at purchasing a concertina and love the sound of the duet, however, there are some who say that the Elise is lacking due to missing buttons...I'd love to know your thoughts on this, if you have a minute.

    • @Soloduet0703
      @Soloduet0703  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! It depends on the kind of music that you want to play but maybe the range of the Elise is a little small. If you take a look at concertina.net there is a thread talking about a project of a new Hayden duet partially made with 3D printing at an affordable price...

    • @SurlySam
      @SurlySam 2 роки тому

      Thank you so much for the advice! I’ve signed up and posed a question about availability to the maker. I do have one more question. Being completely new to the concertina, I’m choosing the duet strictly based on sound and style of music I generally hear performed on a duet. Is a duet a good starting point or should I be looking at English instead?

    • @Soloduet0703
      @Soloduet0703  2 роки тому +2

      @@SurlySam If you mainly want to play only melodies the English could be a better choice, but if you intend to play melodies and accompaniment together then it becomes tricky on the English and far more easier on a duet.

      @@Soloduet0703 I do have a Hayden. it's a unisonoric hayden system by Stagi. 25 plus vent button on one side, 21 on the other. I'm more of an accordion player, and, yeah, I'm certainly willing to part with it.

  • @jasperdevries9260

    Is this more difficult than playing an accoreon? Or is it easier?

    • @Soloduet0703
      @Soloduet0703  Рік тому

      It depends maybe on the type of accordion, but the system is completely different, like between an accordion and a bandoneon.

    • @junemorpeth1960
      @junemorpeth1960 6 років тому

      Ah, well done. I have an arrangement of Roslin Castle copied out of a shape note singing book years ago. It's for three voice parts, and is not optimally suited for concertina, but fun to noodle around with.
      I play fiddle, and also am learning concertina - I, too, have a Beaumont Hayden duet.

    • @Soloduet0703
      @Soloduet0703  3 роки тому

      I don't know well accordion, so it's difficult to compare but I think that it's quite different because you don't have ready made chords on the left. So it can be more difficult to make the chords but it's also more interesting IMHO because you can choose the notes and the way you play the chords. But it's certainly easier to play fast music on an accordion.

      @@Soloduet0703 okay, thanks for your reaction! I play the melodeon now for four years and I wanted to learn to play the accordeon, but then I saw you playing on the Duet: A very beatiful way of playing on the concertina! And now I’m in doubt if I should first learn to play the concertina or the accordeon . Anyway, that’ s my problem 😄. The Duet concertina is a fabulous instrument for relaxed music I think and the accordeon more for lifely, faster, music. Both is great ! You opened a new dimension in music for me, thanks again!!
