My guess is that the former head teacher got inspiration from working with SEN children as often toys and educational tools/activities created for students with needs have similar elements to this product they created. They decide whether to invest primarily on the basis of whether they like the people. If they like the people they seem to overlook that the products are mediocre. Separately, Peter is always very tough at negotiating. He always seems to ask for more than other people and get it. In some ways, he can seem a bit thick sometimes. But I can see why he is so successful in business.

It's super easy to design a phone case with an ear for the chord. That's it. I wouldn't invest in that even then... And I've never seen anyone using a chord on their phone. Ever.

It covers part of the phone screen, and I can imagine that the phone could easily slip out of the rubber strap as the grease from finger marks on the phone gets underneath it. In adfdition, the unit adds a non-slip surface to the outside which makes it more difficult to slide the phone into pockets. As a UX tester, I would suggest that the product be re-made... or scrap it completely and go back to the drawing board.
UPDATE: This failed big time after PJ invested. They got in over their heads and the husband had to start selling his arse down Soho. In short, his ringpiece looked like a bungee cord after the night crawlers got a hold of him.
