I did the same thing in a star wars RPG campaign. When it comes to storytelling about evil scientists it's a go to for good reason
Poor Slanek, he achieved his goal but now is at the mercy of the Federation. Looks like the last time we will hear from ‘this’ Slanek and that if he returns in the future it’ll be in the form of some vegetative version of who he was.
Oh okay, so I have two theory’s about the ending. Either slanek is dead, like actually. Which is why the neural stream ended. Or the kolsian doctors “cured” slanek, by fundamentally altering his brain to such a point that his nureal signature is just completely different.
i assume latter. And i also assume, we will see him later again, cured as a lap dog.

We didn't get this message after Elias was killed, so my gues is tghat it's the latter.
If he returns in the story at some point, we know this much: It isn't slanek. If it claims to be Slanek, it's not him. It's a broken husk held up by the tentacled arms of Kolshian puppeteers.

This is like when the dog dies in a movie after being the goodest boi, but then bringing him back so you can see the horror from his point of view. Poor Slanek
I feel so bad for Slanek. You can see all he truly cared about in the end was his human Marcel, and he lost sight of that to after some form of vengeance. Personally I’ve read ahead and finished the actual story so I know what happens but I’m not dropping a hint of spoilers because this story is too good to be ruined by spoilers.
How do I find the whole story?

Its actually longer than this but you get the gist. What genre would suit this? I was thinking modern folk but open to suggestions 😊
I was putting it to a metal tune as I read it. Have you ever listened to Bear Ghost? They call themselves "adventure rock", and this reminds me of their lyrics a lot.
Fair warning: if you listen to them and like them, don't read anything about the band at a personal level. Trust me, it will kinda ruin it. Just enjoy the tunes until you're ready to let them go.
Metal would work well I think for Slanek’s rage and sadness

Maybe an old timey folk style. Worked well for Sam Jones by Finity's End, and that's a sad space flight song. It's fitting to a folk hero like Slanek who killed the enemy of the Venlil.
The way I'd be eating over grown calamari if I was Marcel and I found out about this. Sentient or not you don't get breathing privileges if you harm my friends.

Slanek got what he wanted - and now everyone is going to suffer for it. Well except the Arxur I guess.
"Venlil manipulated by humans to kill faction leader" makes for a great emotional slogan for Tarva's opponent, which I predict will either cost Tarva the election or she'll have to denounce the humans. Calling Slanek manipulated into doing it is also going to be severly hard to disproove, both because at the core there is some truth to it (Frankenstein was given to him by Marcel) and the only ones that know its false are the humans and the venlil - so the ones who have the most to gain from a lie. There is no doubt to me this will sour trust for the humans, weaken Venlil human relationships, potentially crack the new galactic union, strengthen the federations claims and call Marcel, the one who held the speach about piece, into question.
he deserves better, I hope humanity doesn't forget his sacrifice...
That ending was excruciating.
And so, we have arrived at the (at least IMO) emotional low-point of this story. Slanek's doom-spiral finally comes to a close as he assassinates Chief Nikonus and ends up getting captured, tortured and experimented on.
Funny how this coincides almost to the hour with the release of the latest NOP2 chapter on the subreddit (those who know, know what I mean)...
There is a sequel? I must find it!

I'm sure Glim was written to be unlikeable. He was the embodiment of Venlil prejudice against "Predator Species". I believe the author tried to give him a sympathetic character arc leading to his redemption but probably stopped short when the author realized it was hard to do after doing the same arc with Sovlin. So Glim was left dangling with his predjudice but wanting to make a change, while Sovlin is much further along his road to redemption.
Maybe if the author made him comic relief like what was done with the character, Archie Bunker from the tv show All In The Family. Made him the butt of some jokes as he tries to understand human culture and his new place in Venlil society? I don't know.

*MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THOSE THAT SEEK IMMEDIATE CLOSURE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!*
Book 1:
- Slanek was chemically lobotomized to be a predator fearing husk.
- He was rescued after the fall of Aafa, but the damage was done. The only thing that remained constant was his (now confused) love for Marcel
- Marcel stays with Slanek to try and rehab him, but the damage is extensive to the point of being mentally broken
Book 2 (thus far):
- Nulia (now an adult) mentions Slanek did see some improvement after some years, but declined once again
- Marcel went off the grid and hypothesized by Nulia that he went seeking experimental treatment for Slanek using the memory transcription to have his memories repaired.
So... slaneks gone
So what is up with your recordings? Even now some of your latest videos have multiple tracks over playing at different volumes and it makes paying attention to the main top layer distracting because , I wanna know what is being said on every layer, ya know.
Thanks for the feedback - I do try to make sure the levels are right as I can in premiere and put a compressor on the voices to increase clarity. However, the technology is still in its infancy and I can see the volume outputs for some models aren't as good as I'd like. If I try to mess too hard with them the audio clips and sounds scratchy. Still, it's the best we have right now and it will get better as time goes on.

I agree. I am a veteran myself and am completely baffled by how he cares more for his enemy's mindset than his own friend. It is easy for people to miss a friends cry for help but Slanek is basically screaming it.
Not going to get any disagreement from me. Slanek needed love not judgment.

this is not how i wanted to see it end... wtf! I could see sovlin sacrificing his life in a similar way but not slanek. of everyone being followed in this book, slanek deserved happiness the most, but this is how it ends. he goes ahead and decides to one-up sovlin by torturing marcel worse than sovlin could ever have done... what sucks is i don't think we will be hearing from marcel again either.
