  • After the first ride, there was a list of problems with the R1, the biggest were a front brake judder and the engine holding onto revs. In this episode Dave tries to fix both issues. But it might not all be easy fixing

Love your perseverance at a point when most of us would say - oh bugger it!

no better feeling than setting up a set of carburettors and getting them running much much better than they were

Some of us have motorbikes with character, while others (Dave H) sort theirs out - eventually.😊

I read 1998. Then I saw the video qulaity and was wondering how they managed this type of picture quality in 1998!?

Hello Dave, I've noticed there is an aftermarket exhaust on the bike which is probably less restrictive than the original. Herefore you probably should set the mixture screws a 1/2 turn to 3/4 of a turn further OUT than the manual tells you to do.

Aye, but once you change pipe/air filter, they never run right. ...

I did adjust the pilot screws and on the bench it was much better, but didn't cure it on the road test, so more work to be done!

Great work Dave! Did you sort out the brake shudder? Did the cheap discs make any difference? This setup reminds me of a 2007 Ducati MTS1100 front brake disc system. Shuddered occasionally but a change of pads reduced it considerably. I think it had more to do with the rim posts for the disc than the disc itself 🤔

Once the 'new' cheap discs were on it seemed to cure it, which I wasn't expecting but am happy it did it, lol

Dave, just a thought, is there any restriction in the throttle cables preventing the butterflies closing quickly e.g - kinked or badly routed cable, stiff cable or throttle linkage? BTW Is this the right time for the wire locking video???

Idle mixture a bit lean? That would cause a hangup....

    Considerably. Oil stone. Check.

Great channel - Any reason you didn't do the brake cleaner check to see if you actually solved the false intake? - It seems like it could be a good "clean carbs video" since I would assume some of the jets are a bit clogged which would make it run lean. Luckily its a quite easy job. Just dont unplug the throttle cable from the carbs. That is, if you want to take them off.

They did get a check and clean very early on, and seemed to be in nice shape. I'll be revisiting them soon!

If you are having these days, I think I will feel less angry now and maybe less swaring will go on, when I have similar days.

How do you adjusted the air screws because they are in a hard spot. So do you adjusted then turn on the bike or the bike was running at all times while you adjusted the screws. ? Thank you.

They are awkward but you can just get to them when they're on the bike. Short screw driver needed!
