- 1. Melt your fat.
2. Mix the Water and Sodium Hydroxide together.
3. Leave both products to stand for approximately 30-40 minutes until they both reach around 38-43 degrees Celsius.
4. Combine the fat with the Sodium Hydroxide solution and immersion blend until the consistency of thin custard.
5. Add your essential oil and continue to immersion blend until the consistency is thick custard.
6. Pour into a prepared soap mould or container.
7. Rest for 24 hours in the mould, turn out and cut into desired soap shapes (cutting 24 hours later makes the cutting process easier and cleaner).
8. Leave your soaps for 4-6 weeks in an airy location prior to use. A baking rack is useful for this, or on a flat surface you can just turn them daily.
CAUTION
Ensure you wear gloves, long sleeves and an apron and if sensitive to smells wear a mask. When mixing the Sodium Hydroxide with the water, it can slash and the splashes cause a mild burn and itching sensation. Take care around pets and children and never stand over the mixing process as it produces fumes that are very potent. it produces fumes that are very potent.
Sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) is a base not a acid.
What are the exact measurements?
1 tsp sugar per pound of fat will increase lather. Excellent video!
As it's exothermic it may harm if you add water over soda because it's try to boil. So always add caustic soda in small amounts in the water, it will warm up the water and no harm is going to happen. Stay safe.
NEVER pour the water into the Lye, always add the lye to the water.
Why?
@@Jacob-sj5nn adding any strong base or acid to water can cause an exothermic reaction. Lye in particular can produce heat upwards of 200 degrees. It also gives off caustic gas. If you add the water to the lye, it is instantly concentrated and can splatter and cause server burns (some chemicals will explode). By adding the lye to the water, it is instantly diluted.

makes no sense at all.
throw water first or throw lye first instanly same reaction
@@ADRIAN-zh4ti Read Jacob-sj5nn's reply above yours. He explains it quite well.
Caustic soda into water!!!!! Not water into caustic soda!!!!!!
I came here to say just that!!!!!
Well, that and the lye water is basic not acidic.
@@melodyivers she kept saying acid and I was like huhhh 🤣🤣
Caustic soda is not an acid 🤣🤦♀️ NaOH is a strong base
human fat is the best from what i heard
Try it and let us know.
the 1st rule of fight club is
Thanks Jeffery
And safety glasses too please 🙏......... caustic soda is nasty shit !
Big NO, NO. never add water to lye, especially as you were not using protective eye wear.
Using metal spoon could be making smoke cuz lye reacts with metal
Lye reacts with aluminum, she’s using a stainless steel spoon which is inert with lye. Also it should be worth mentioning that one should never pour water into lye. It could cause the lye to pop and sputter because it is an exothermic reaction which could cause liquid and lye to fly outta the bowl and land on you.
Make sure to follow the recipe. What recipe?
Wow like the measurements
A good job
Coconut oil to help the lather if you want.
im neither a hunter nor a homesteader, i just dont wanna be smelly after the apocalypse.
Maybe make another video where youre making lye from wood ashes, since you were using the store bought stuff in this video.
Just to say I've been soap making For a while sweetie just gotta put a pair of goggles on protect the eyes as well it's important you never know about A splash
Adding Sodium hydroxide(NaOH) with water separates it into ion Na+(aq) and OH-(aq) any solution or compound with Hydroxide (OH-) is a base, if you test it with litmus paper it will turn blue
Wood ash would do the same thing just hardwood ash.
The lye leeched from wood ashes is potassium carbonate, not sodium hydroxide. Wood ash lye makes a soft soap that doesn't harden enough to cut into bars.
what are your measurements? there is nothing in your description box
Thanks for the video, well done. Can I ask you how you use this particular soap - dishwashing? clothes washing? bathroom soap? Thanks
Always Acid to water nevere ever add water to acid ,,to remumber A to W
She almost gave me another heart attack adding water to citric acid. 😮
A very informative video indeed👌 Can you make a video where you actually use the soap? I think that would be more interesting.
What book were you using to guide yourself?
No salt added? How long should I mix? 30 sec?
It's less about how long and more about just doing it until the mix looks right.
Poor cat!
When I added the Sodium hydroxide water solution to the rendered fat immediately it turned into thick slush :(
After that, you have to mix it with a stick blender until it turns thick, like pudding.
Great video, thanks
I’m jealous of that cutting board!
It's 100% awesome. My brother made it for me!
Welcome to the club.!!
But it will have animal fat in bad smell
How I can red the smell
It smells a little bit like the fat but that doesn't bother us. It mostly smells like the oil you put in later.
