Did you enjoy the search?
Were you helping Eddie search the playboy magazines lmao

The fact that the Maya the bee crude joke is in episode 69 just made it a whole lot funnier
That damn bee really fears nothing, uh? (Or however the lyrics went)
I remember watching that show back then... But I did not know that it went for this dang long holy cow
Nice
Clearly that was intentional. Because 69 is the sec number
And in episode 420 there is a full uncensored co-
I wonder how many people caught this for a split second while watching and just didnt believe themselves
I wonder how many mothers noticed their teenage sons renting the movie and thinking, "It's so nice to see them have an appreciation for the Disney classics", not noticing the kids kept hitting pause at one point?
Actually it’s only in the one very specific re-release on VHS that has this. I had the VHS release from 92
I’ve never seen anyone else mention this, but I wonder how they even realized what it was. The image is extremely blurry and I have no idea what’s going on with the woman’s head. It doesn’t even look like she’s got one it looks like her head is in the middle of exploding or something.
Very very few. its hard to see, its fast and not many people had great quality set ups. even when paused, its not a clear image like a paused dvd. you would most likely have to look at the film itself
@@kenthuang436 35 mm prints had it too. So it isn’t new
Ann Guenther is an absolute legend. Thank you for giving her the credit that she deserved and acknowledging her wonderful career.
the memorium you did for Annie was so lovely, and learning her story was amazing. I already knew about how woman in animation would be constantly uncredited and pushed aside, all the while making the films possible, but hearing that the person she trained got the lead and not her slightly made my blood boil. but even after that she went on the help create the worlds that millions on children loved is just inspiring. I really hope one day the history and names of people like annie become just as intwined with the movie as the more well known roles.
We stan trailblazing Queens.
Agreed
It’s still like this today, though not as bad. It’s a tough industry. It’s slow going but things are changing.
Yeah I found it super sad as soon as she left Disney suddenly she started to get all that credit an an award....Disney missed the opportunity to reward her efforts and be shown as in support of women working (although I know it was different back then)
Everytime I hear someone not getting credit though like that I find it extremely ironic because Walt himself lost his original mascot character and didn't get credit for him until decades later
So you would think he would care about crediting people
I was so stoked to find out she worked on She-Ra, my mom had dvds with some episodes of that show, and it was one of my favorite shows! I have stories from when I was too small to remember wherein I claimed the role of the main character! I never expected to be talking about this on a video essay about an easter egg in a Disney movie, but here we are! And I'm glad we are here.
My mom actually has a copy of the recalled VHS on the rescuers and she's very proud of having that copy so I was familiar with the naked woman in the window story. Really cool to find out who was actually behind it! That's neat!
I was told on certain version of laser discs it had the picture too.
I bought a copy from a flea market for 5 bucks. The way to know if you have it or not is if the tape has an ink label.
I initially thought you were still talking about your mother when you said it was cool to find out who was behind it. Sincere apologies 😂
That's a fucking cool mom
This was the copy my family had when I was younger too. Don't think my mom would have been so cool about it, so I never told her. 🤫
The longer you're a dad the more sigh inducing your dad jokes are and I'm here for it! This video was well worth the wait! Amazing job, Eddie!
Annie deserved more attention and more love and I am so glad you did this. A simple essay video turned into a tribute to a talent artist behind many of our childhoods.
Thank you.
God The Rescuers was a hell of a film - that scene of the girl in the tidal cave utterly terrified me, particularly the sections in which: she has to edge around a seemingly bottomless pit and nearly falls in; and when she's struggling to somehow get the diamond from inside the giant skull and can't, and water starts rising and she's screaming to the villainess (who's safe outside the cave) that she won't be able to get the diamond before the tide gets too high, and begs to be let out and promises to try again as soon as the tide drops, and the villainess just tells her she'll let her out with the diamond or not at all - and the girl manages to retrieve it for fear of drowning, and even then she just gets left in the cave anyway! Of course she doesn't actually drown but dear god, that whole scene has stayed with me every since and is a big reason why I will absolutely never go near a cave by the sea.
I remember it, too, randomly, to this very day. Especially how the skull looked, and how shiny the diamond was.
An extremely underrated film, in my opinion. It was basically the old school animators’ swan song before most of them left the studio for retirement and a return to more emotional, dramatic films that Walt pioneered after over a decade of lighthearted comedies.
It was also their last major success at the box office before the Disney Renaissance took off around a decade later. And yet, despite that, neither it nor the sequel get nearly much recognition from the company. It’s just lobbed in with all their miscellaneous films. Such a shame.
It would be so much easier for the villainess if she just dig it out
Medusa: "You get down there and find that diamond, or you'll never see your Teddy bear again!"
Penny: "All right, all right...I-I'll go."
Mr. Snoops (to Medusa) : "Boss, you've really got a way with kids."
Orchestra stops playing.
Saxophone guy: This is my moment
Underrated comment; got a genuine lol moment out of me
Using Mrs Krabappel to represent her at the end is fitting, given Maria Wallace is also someone we’ve sadly lost.
She’s amazing
Thanks so much for acknowledging Ann Guenther in your video. The fact that you managed to get in contact with some of the original Disney animators is astounding. Thank you bringing up a topic which has fascinated me a few years ago.
Who?
@@everythingpony….watch the video? Or if not (understandable, actually), she was the background artist responsible for this; she was a great artist but was denied a promotion for the reason that she was a girl (and they hired someone trained by her). She is currently dead
@@everythingponywatch the video and pay attention Einstein
It's kinda sweet that simply in researching this (rather raunchy) topic, you get to spread the word and celebrate Ann.
To Ann!
I love how to reference the Aladdin thing, the parody musical Twisted had a whole musical number specifically saying Yes Aladdin is saying take off your clothes. It’s an amazing musical and free on UA-cam
Take Off Your Clothes, and the whole "Did somebody order a prince?" segment before it, are definitely some of my favourite moments in all of theatre history
I saw 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' at the BFI about a decade ago, and in the interview with the animation director Richard Williams, he said he didn't know anything about the Jessica Rabbit frame. He knew about the Betty Boop 1 frame tit shot and says Robert Zemeckis was the one who asked for it.
It's really cool to finally know something about this famous tiddy woman's existence so thank you.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait?
There is a Betty Boop titty shot? * _goes to video to watch it_ *
Thanks, Tozzywozzy... Thats made my day

Disney and some of its more hardcore fans insist the woman was not in the original theatrical release of the film, but that's not true. Years ago I reviewed two film prints of the movie, one in German and another in Greek, both from 1977, and both of them had the woman. If you search "Bernhard & Bianca - Die Mäusepolizei 1977" there's a 2 minute 40 second long clip from a mid-to-late 1977 airing where they showed a preview on the film on German television, where if you pause at the right moment, you can also see the woman.
Wow.
Intriguing
Both the centaurs in Fantasia and the women in Make Mine Music were drawn by Freddie Moore. Freddie was a known favorite of Walt’s, being the one to make the iconic redesign of Mickey, and Walt famously saying about his effortlessly appealing drawings “why can’t we do it more like this?” Freddie was known throughout the studio for his draftsmanship of women. If anyone could convince Walt to let that slide, it was him.
Not sure if I ever published it or if it's out in the ether somewhere, but I interviewed the guy who animated her falling out of the cab, and I'm sorry Edd.... YOU'RE WRONG ABOUT JESSICA RABBIT!
The animator is Colin White, who is retired and living in England, where the movie was animated (I did go and visit the Acme Factory in England along with the building the majority of the movie's animation was done in) and I can tell you that YES... HE DREW JESSICA'S PRIVATE PARTS.
Now, he thought it would get seen in the ink and paint stage and maybe someone might say to him in the commissary, "Oh, we had to erase your naughty joke, but very funny," but no. It's not a coloring mistake. He drew her hairless gooch and they colored it flesh on purpose.
He's a good, decent man, but he's an animator.... and they're all subversively minded!

Wonderful video, only thing that I was disappointed that wasn't mentioned was that the two frames were non-consecutive. This made it even more fleeting and hard to spot; instead of 0.08 seconds, it was window for 0.04 seconds, mouse in the way for another 0.04, and then finally another glimpse of the window for a final 0.04.
Also, being an early internet adopter and an employee of Blockbuster at the time meant I had a chance to get ahead of the recall. Found out about the controversy online when I got up that Friday, went in to work my opening shift, asked the manager "these are still for sale right?" -- confused she replied "why wouldn't they be?" so I bought one and took it out to my car. About an hour or two after opening the email came in from corporate to pull all the rental and sale copies.
I have so...SO many PDFs of vintage playboys on my harddrive now because of this video
Thanks Eddie.
Oh lordie
Thank you for your service. We salute you.
If you don't want 'em, I'm sure someone here would be willing to take them off your hands, so to speak

I never knew those small two frames would have such a big backstory behind it. The memorial for Annie is beautiful and I'm so happy the answer is solved!
i think this particular video perfectly encapsulates what i love about eddie's style of videos. i wouldn't usually be interested in a topic like this, but the way eddie presents his videos always has me intrigued. thank you for your research, and thank you for the tribute to annie gunther
Same with me
it was good of you to do an in memorium for Annie, so dumb how she wasn't honored by the people who should actually do that, and crazy how much effort you put into solving this mystery, would love more video's breaking down mysteries its super fascinating
8:23 i love the fact they have to specify the orchestra stopped playing rather than just saying "the theatre went silent."
Like- there's some other universe where the orchestra just went "well shit gotta switch it up guys" and played porn music-
They should've just kept playing

Fun fact: you can skim one frame forwards or backwards in a youtube video by pressing the comma (,) and period (.) keys on your keyboard. Editors are sexy!
I was disturbed upon seeing this
It’s awesome you got to get responses from old Disney animators, RIP Ann. You were a talented woman and had a great sense of humor.
Fantastic job on all the research for the video!
Another good one, Eddie! Honestly, there's so much you can say about animation and actually hiding stuff in. I mean, Roger Rabbit alone has actual naughty gags in it that weren't the error that everyone cites. But this video highlights an underrated figure in the animation sphere that should be talked about more, what with how much studios' cartoon stories are always about the men.
Slight tangent but you know the anime Nausicaa? The main character is supposed to be wearing warm leggings but nobody told the colourists so they assumed she just wasn't wearing anything. Back then everything was physical and it would have cost too much to get every cel of Nausicaa herself redone so they just released it.
11:25 "Once, when I was seven years old, I sat on a banana. And THAT of course changed my life"
Parents: Disney is teaching our kid prn
Also parents: UA-cam kids is a great app for kids
Theres something actually depressing about the fact that with one mystery solved, it leads to another that will never be.
Do you think she ever knew? After the controversy got released; do you think Annie was ever aware how much people wanted to know more about the Woman in the Window? It's a shame with Annies death; there's no no way to ever find out the full story.
Also speaking of Roger Rabbit and Cartoon Nudity, while you can't see Jessica's Rabbit Patch, there is a single frame of Betty Boop's Nips, and I have test it and you can see them
Personally I thought Aladin said "good tigress"
I do love how many places this video took us. Learning about annie was definitely the highlight
Oh that malicious reel change was definitely two or more men
"Lower himself to that level"
"Ladies remained in their seat"
I love your essays! This is probably a dumb thing ro say, but you're honestly inspiring.
"Yeah, look at the industry. The best are men."
Yeah because the history books tend to write out the women.
RIP Annie.
It makes sense she worked on tiny toons and Animaniacs. Both were wonderfully subversive
There's a parody of Aladdin called "Twisted" which features a very pervy Aladdin. In it, he sings a song titled "Take off your clothes" it features references to most of Disney's hidden sex jokes. It includes lines like
"See that palace of gold, shining sparkling metalic, and a little bit phallic"
"See those leaves on the ground spelling something explicit... SFX?"
"Look that priest has a boner. No I think that's just his knees"
i think the line "even the stars above reflect our love" while the stars spell out "FUCK EACH OTHER" is also a reference? i can't remember what though
These one were actually unintentional
@@sonicfanboy3375it was 100% don't on purpose how do you not spell that?

@@koolmckool7039 I'm talking about the Disney "dirty jokes" not the musical lyrics
I don't know why it surprised me to see that the man who cross-referenced every Simpsons episode with Mr Burns in it with every other suspect of "Who Shot Mr. Burns" combed through *decades* of Playboy magazines to find the source of a millisecond background gag.
Actually I saw this clip when I was a kid and I thought the photo was really creepy
Can we take a moment to appreciate, that the Maya the Bee dick drawing was made on episode 69.
I’m glad I’m not the only one with an evil gut
There's something about Disney removing anything problematic even though they have proven themselves that it isn't problematic that just makes me uncomfortable.
How far would Disney go?
My guess is: as far as possible for profitability.
They're sadly mostly a business now. Art is secondary. I find it rather tragic given how the Disney studio was instrumental in demonstrating that feature length animated films could be a thing (with Snow White) but now the name is just owned by... whatever the modern Disney corp is. It's not really trying to break new ground at all, it's just doing the bare minimum to get over breaking even. Or at least that's the feeling I get, and I wish I could convince myself otherwise...
@@Sakkeru96now? They always put business on front of everything. Sometimes way more aggressively even
Or doubling down on the things they're doing that actually _are_ issues. They have shown in the past decade or so they don't care about profits so long as they can push their intended messaging hard enough.
For some reason boobs are again the big evil. Female beauty in general is now the biggest sin in media it seems. I guess there are enough jealous ugly women in charge fearing the fictional competition. Also men aren't allowed to enjoy things, too.
One of the reasons I'm so uncomfortable with digital media - even the criterion site will edit old films or remove them entirely because they're old and don't fit "modern sensibilities". When we own phusical media (VHS tapes or DVDs) we avoid our past entertainment being re-written or erased. It's slightly unsettling.
I still find it hilarious how parents at that time period would see a minute speck of nudity and claim the whole movie as "raunchy filth"
Thank you for telling us about this lovely artist, I hadn’t heard her name until now.
Actually how I know the dust in lion king actually says "SEK"
SEK is an north Korean animation studio, and from the rumors they worked on Lion King, and that "north Korean animators would not be credited in the credits" so they credited themselves in that scene
All the Disney Animated Canon films are animated entirely in Walt Disney Animation Studios in the US.
Only the TV shows and direct-to-video films have outsourced animation, but never to North Korea.
Back then, they would outsource to Canada, France, Australia, Japan or the Philippines.
The only confirmed time a North Korean animation studio did animation for a US series was one episode in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Ok this is hilarious. A woman was responsible for the naked woman scene and it was all for LOLs
"Fantasia & Make Mine Music."
Damn, you just named my two of my 3 favorite Disney movies back to back. I was half expecting you to bring up 3 Caballeros next.
Yep Annie Gunther did it. :) Good on her. It was a joke. She should have been in the 2018 Oscars memorials.
As someone who is absolutely obsessed with cinema, this was absolutely fascinating. Also, a fitting tribute to Ann as well. You really did her proud, good on ya !
I was born in the same year as "The Rescuers", "Pete's Dragon", "Smokey And The Bandit" and "Star Wars"! I didn't know about any of this! Also I had the "Uncle Remus'Stories" original Disney book and I had "The Rescuers" Disney book!
12:03 I'm hearing "Good kitty, just take off and go."
The scene I am familiar with is the Cave of Wonders sequence. There is an extremely faint bit of audio, inaudible under comfortable decibels. It lacks the visual context to inform the meaning of the words.
You know it’s a good day when Eddache uploads another banger!
This was nice. I enjoyed this. Love you Ed! ❤
I know it's been 6 months, but Aladdin's line sounds like "Come on, Good kitty just, take off and go". It sounds like Kitty and Just are rushed and a bit breathless.
See, I've never really cared too much about who did it or why it was added into the film (though I do now), I was always more curious about who was in the photo. This video managed to tell me everything EXCEPT that, and it's pretty sad that even so long after the initial release, we still don't know who's in that photograph.
Maybe people will set up a dedicated search for it if they haven't already? Sort of a "lost media" type of thing? I mean hell, people dug up an old video game texture, I'm sure this would gather a lot more dedicated searchers, if nothing else because of the subject matter.
Ed's commitment to scanning every single copy of Playboy is most commendable
I remember when I was much younger. I was 10 and now 51. I viewed a thing that played small parts of the movie and I remember seeing that. Even later on I spotted darkwing duck episode years later watching it as it aired and later recorded it to confirm what I saw. It was a coloring area. Darkwing was coming out of a cake leaving the dark dimension and for one frame it had the colors of Negaduck instead of his normal colors. To this day I still have a very good eye for catching little details on movies and if actor no matter the time on screen or them being in makeup to hide their trates I can say what other movies they stared in and other details of them.
Another example of this years ago my son lived with me for a few months and I went to his school open house. I only spoke with his teachers and went home. Roughly 4-5 years later I drove for Uber and a teacher he didn’t have came in my van for a ride and I still remembered him. I asked him to make sure I was right and I was. So anyone can do this if you remain visual and keep a positive outlook. It might not be as strong as my experience because there are others that have even stronger memory skills but nothing wrong with trying to challenge your mind.
Bro, how can this man turn even the wildest video subjects into the best video essays. This man is the GOAT
I really appreciate this video cause when I found it years later I remembered being very freaked out as a kid asking about it... N being told I had imagined it. The thing that bothered me was that the face was obscured the question I asked my parents was "what's wrong with the ladies face"
Getting to see the picture cleared up so she has a face again is a relief to the whole memory. It's like the puzzle is as complete as it needed to be... It's not that her identity was hidden only the quality from the frame was what happened to get face.
1:45 from what i remember most movies that were hand edited on film, editors would leave single frame signatures.
Just a masterpiece of a video, thank you Eddie
Dude, you need to do more investigations like this.

Gotta say that I always found the easter egg a little bit unnerving even now, the idea of this random live-action woman clashing with the cartoon world outside of her window, apparently stripping not for the people looking in, but those looking out (the audience) staring directly at them
I remember this, it was from the time I was immersed in Di$ney as satanism discourse, how interesting to know the context
I grew up in a pretty crazy church that thought Disney movies were satanic. ...But ironically this stuff was never brought up, they more so just simply thought the magic and talking animals were evil. Oh and one lady found the princess attractive as a kid and blamed Disney for turning her into a lesbian. ...I'm dead serious.
i remember seeing the pic of the topless woman on snopes and wishing to know the story behind it because it was so crazy! you solved not only the overarching mystery but my own personal mystery of 20 years!
What a legend. I am so happy to have learned of her.
Hopefully THE RESCUERS won’t get a live action remake
this better not become a massive search like the jeff the killer search
I feel like a lot of these odd things can be chalked up to the power of suggestion, like people underestimate how easily ones perception can be manipulated with a simple word choice like if you ask someone if they talked to someone and then showed them an image and followed by asking if this is what they looked like a persons brain will warp the memory of who they talked to thanks to the suggestion of the photo.
Its actually caused some issues in the past like with missing persons cases and such but in this instance its more akin to a thirteen year old telling a ten year old you can see boobies if you slow down Chip & Dale which was really evil because using slow-mo on a VHS player could really warp the tape
5:25 well whether the story with Walt is true or not doesn't particularly matter to question at hand(paw?wing?) Because an animator on the rescuers could have heard the apocryphal story and be influenced to try something similar whether it's true or not
I like that the Maya the Bee episode is episode 69
