- The Challenger R/T makes a reappearance, this time with the installation of some BBK Shorty Headers! Freeing up more of that v8 exhaust note and waking up the 5.7L engine with a well deserved modification. A much needed & necessary modification in the muscle car community. It's crazy how much of a difference these headers made!
In this video we install some BBK Shorty Headers on Eduardo's Dodge Challenger 5.7 R/T. With step by step instructions and straight forward guidelines, if this install is up next on your to do list, look no further! Definitely worth the money & the time it took to install these into the car, the first start up had me wanting to purchase a muscle car. Like always, were certified "pros" so modify your car at your own risk! And have fun!

Tip don't use the bbk gaskets provided. Will leak eventually. Go mls gasket saves you a second install

These still a good option to go with or have better ones came out? Just ordered my headers yesterday
They recommended me use style 6.4 gaskets to avoid that so I got them did the car gets louder s after the Bbk ?
I'm gonna put the 6.4 cam in mine so I will put the headers on at that time

did you have to modify the existing exhaust in anyway to get these to fit ? is the exhaust factory or similar to factory dimensions ?
Not my video but I have the same headers. You don’t have to modify anything. But don’t buy BBK they crack easily. Im about to replace them with jba

You guys make it look so easy.. people telling me it's a whole day process and a pain to get to them.. what was the hardest part ?
Im sure all if not most videos always make some installs look easy. But we did crank it out rather quick! The hardest part was honesty the top bolts for the headers closer to the front cylinders, especially on the driver side. Swivel sockets are definitely recommended

I’m not sure if my headers and the cats are finding the right seal at the collector bolts. Is there a gasket or maybe a donut to properly seal it??
If I remember correctly we used the old donut seal from the original headers to cat contact point and that was out seal.

2 questions for ya 1did it change the tone of the sound and 2 did it make a noticeable power gain on the bottom end. I’m running Borla Atak cat back on mine with the mopar cold air intake.
Okay to answer your first question, yes it did change up the tone and sound, both at startup and in the higher rpms. For your second question, nothing too noticeable where we felt a drastic difference but with your Borla exhaust and intake Im sure the headers would help with power gains once tuned!

Do you have a tune after getting the headers? Did it throw up any codes after the install?
A tune isn’t necessary but definitely recommended. For our installation we didn’t have any codes thrown and tuned shortly after
I daily drive my 2016 challenger rt 5.7 should I get long or short?
Being that you daily drive your challenger, I would stick to the shorty headers especially if it’s a long commute.

With a total of three heads on this job, it was about a 2-3 hour job from start to finish if I remember correctly

Thank you! Sound wise Forsure made a difference. Performance wise, we felt a slight improvement in the higher RPM’s but nothing too noticeable until a tune

Did it ever throw an engine code? I have a warranty on my car I want to keep. Lol got a AirAid CAI with HellCat breather tube installed in the airbox. Also have the Borla Atak cat back exhaust.
It didn't throw a code for us, with the shorty headers they simply plug and play to your stock exhaust, so as long as you don't remove your catalytic converters, you should be good. The intake and breather tube should help paired with these headers and the exhaust. I can only imagine what your car would sound like with all those parts paired up!
did you bend the sport rail with the jacketed in the beginning or is that the angle and shadow from the stands?
No that was simply the angle and shadow from the stands

No clearance issues in our case
How long did the install take . What's a fair price to pay for labor if your having an shop do install ?
Install took us around 4-5 hours, a reasonable price would be anywhere in the range of around 800~1k depending on your county and hourly labor rate since it is a tedious job
I let you know when I get mines real soon hope they fit for my ride plus I been going to this shop for yrs n my truck been up there a month now everything is off he said he doesn't want 2 double charge me
Would these work with catless?
They will, as long as your catless exhaust setup bolts up to the original headers, then you’d be able to swap your original headers for these and pair them up with your setup.

The new gasket didn’t come with a heat shield, is it needed for these or no?
Nah it’s not needed, whatever gaskets are provided is what you’ll need

Did you have any problems with smog with these headers?
It didn’t affect smog for us because they still attach to the factory catalytic converters
That THANG is niceeee! I want to look into something similar. Are you able to pass emissions with this? Thats my only concern
They are indeed! Yes you’re able to pass emissions as long as you get these shorties and not the long tube headers which in turn eliminate your catalytic converters

Do you feel some type of gain ?
The gain is felt slightly in the higher rpms but I’m sure a significant gain would be more noticeable after a tune

Any recommendations or advice when it comes to removing the cats or is it fairly easy ?
My recommendation would be to spray some wd40 on all the exhaust bolts. Removal is fairly easy, it’s the install that takes the most time.

Do you have issues of with the header bolts coming loose?
Yes it was common for us as well, I advise to use red high temp thread lock to keep them in place
@@AuthenticAlexndr definitely have and they still come loose, we tighten them everything is all good for a few days of driving and they start rattling again to the point some have dropped completely out while driving

Typically a header install runs around $400-600 installed

Cast irons are manifolds, not headers

I noticed you're in Cali. How were you able to get these (non C.A.R.B.) shipped and installed in California?
I have JBA headers and shops in my area were very strict and demanded to see the C.A.R.B. approved sticker.
