- Today we tackled putting headers on the 2009 challenger R/T, this car threw a bunch of obstacles in our way but we came out on top and eventually finished the install! if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask!

Going from the underside is a pain, which is why typically we pull the heads, bolt the headers on with stage 8 locks, and install the head and header assembly up top with no headache. Especially when most of the time we are changing the lifters and cam so we already have the heads off. Just thought this info would help someone looking to tackle the job. But on occasion for example on shorties we install from underneath.
So I bought Long tube headers but havnt installed them yet bc no lift and no ramps. I have like some experience working on my 5.7 but not an expert. Would u recommend I go from the top as well and take the heads off? I never took the heads off but I taken the intake manifold off before.

Best way to install the headers is removing the motor mount off, get the bolts from the bottom then jack motor up and as much as u can and get the rest from the top, done it like 20 times like that,
I had my long tubes installed for $400. I believe it was a deal. Especially since Chrysler 300 exhaust sides are tight

Can you guys drop a list of the tools you needed to do this job? Looking to do it on my 2009 challenger and wondering what tools are necessary
Did my own install, the passenger side was definatly difficult, but easy if you pull the motor mount and Jack the motor up a little on that side.
If I were to do it again, I'd just pull the heads.
This is my fav color combo hopefully one day i can get a chally love my charger but its not the same.

Pro-tip you spent$1,000 on headers.. drop another $30 on new O2 Sensors and dont even screw with them
Pro tip, leave the cats off and O2 sensors and put a tune on it and be done
@Ford SixHoe that's not a pro tip... I mean... if you live in an area that doesn't have emissions testing that's what I would do... otherwise you won't be getting your registration renewed lol

Great video! Stay safe... 2:28 I always place the first stand under the rocker rail for safety, immediately after jacking up the vehicle. Then I place the second stand under one of the recommended support points, followed by the fist stand opposite position.

What brand headers did u go.. and how do u plan on passing emissions w no cats? Just curious because I really want this setup
these are kooks headers, being that we live in Michigan we do not have emission testing so we can get away with any kind of exhaust set up pretty much!

Installing shortys on my 300 hemi rn... such a pain but i got the midpipes off and just trying to work the heat shield and manifolds
everything about working under a hemi is a pain lmao this was one of the harder sets of headers ive installed
So recently did a long tube header install to my 2010. Did you notice any tight fitting spots on the drive side. Mostly where the header comes under the body. Does y’all’s meet the body with little play or did you have a good gap between the pipe and body? Mine seems to be pretty tight.
Honestly really want to install these on mine soon but something that caught my eye at the beginning is how do you have a remote start for an 09? Mines a 2010 and I don’t have that feature, would be dope though
It’s a certain package, and only available in automatic, I think you had to order it to come with remote start
My 2010 rt classic had remote start i all had push button start i believe 2010 was the first year of the push button start on the challenger but very few had it

Where did you guys get the cat less mids? And how easy was it to bypass the O2 sensors, or did you guys just have bungs that already worked in those pipes?
They are kooks catless mids but we actually got them from the person we bought them from, not sure where he did but I would assume directly from kooks. The pipes we got actually had bungs already put in them so we didn't have to bypass them

what’s the rest of the exhaust setup ? & was there any cutting or welding required ?
The rest of the exhaust is just stock but it does have cattless connection pipes. We did have to cut the exhaust to bolt up to the connection pipes
which ones did you buy.. notice any power gains?
They are kooks longtubes 1-7/8th to 2.5in and with tune def some noticeable power gains!
You think 1 7/8 longtube headers also fit 2014 r/t charger?
@@rodrigopineda9739 they should but you’d have to get it tuned after putting them on, it’d throw all kinds of codes and run worse if you don’t tune it

How much horsepower does it add to the car
prob a good 10-15 hp without a tune and could add 20-30 with right tune and exhaust

How long of O2 sensor extensions were needed
Hey man I'm not really sure on exact length, we ended up just making some extensions ourselves but Ik you can order them pretty cheap!

is there any recommendations for the passenger top middle bolt i have both sides on and all bolts done except that one mf bolt
Hey Guys, I did the same this weekend. Did you installed the Lock 8 discs?
Personally I only did it on the Cat connection.
By the way, how many screws did you rip of by displacing the heat shields?
Also I installed a Flowmaster Cat-Back exhaust system.

@@SemiCarGuys hey I have a question about the 02 sensors. The first time you drove the car it ran with just the front sensors connected right? I'm trying to figure out if it will be alright to drive mine with the cats off for a little bit before I take it to a dyno and get it tuned.
What lowering springs are on it? Link?

@@SemiCarGuys ya I'm getting ready to either go longtube or shorties. Mines a 2013 challenger RT plus. Just weighing out the pros and cons. I'm scared to death of bolts breaking off in the aluminum heads.

I thought open headers messes up the engine?
Without a tune itll rattle the piss out of the cylinders and pull timing,
Its deff not the best for it but nothing wrong for just a start up! alot of drag cars run open headers or cutouts

nope doesn't seem to affect the mpg to bad maybe like 1 mpg but thats it
Soooo did you ever find the exhaust leak? Where was it coming from? Super nice setup btw. Sound nice.
Thanks man yeah we did, it was just that the exhaust needed to be tightened again and the headers needed to be torqued

we ended up just extending the stock o2 sensors

That's a hard no go for the California smog. You have to know a guy to pass you or it's an automatic fail. You mayyy get away with it if you have the green cats with the long tubes.
You’ll fail unless you know someone that will just pass the visual inspection.
Some shops won’t even install long tubes unless you tow the car in & tow it out.

usually you will get an engine light if your not tuned or don’t use the o2 sensors. if you use them and you get a tune, you won’t have the light

a lot of work for 10-20hp maybe if that in a 4500lb car with driver. That negligible seat to pants feeling if anything at all in gains. You gain 20hp in a 3400 its definitely noticeable.
Yeah your definitely not wrong but these were put on more for exhaust purposes to make the car louder not some much for hp gains
If you can't see the big picture on certain mods you shouldn't be touching anything.
