Dear sweet lady, be careful about heat exhaustion or stroke. I understand you need to tend your garden daily and, I need to go to my greenhouse at least twice a day….I can not imagine how often you need to go out there in the high temperatures you are having. Hmmmmm, you just gave the most clear-to-me instructions and view of sweet potato, and explained why we have to make slips and not plant the sweet potato like we do the Yukon gold and fingerlings, or other white potatoes. I guess I will go get a sweet potato or two and give this a try. I am the only one of the 6 in this house who likes sweet potatoes, but they do like pumpkin pie, so maybe they would like a sweet potato pie. You think? Take care, hydrated and not over heated. You might mist yourself with a spray bottle. Hmmmm, so maybe I will have to train the sweet potato vines to encircle the potato bag in plant them in?

Heat is effecting a lot of states right now not just Texas! I am in Az and we stay in the 100’s all summer and doest’t cool off much at night. So I understand but no garden for that reason. So please be careful as heat stroke creeps up without warning. Great job on the totes.

Hey Linda in hit day like 90 and above, I take a big bottle of water with pink Himalayan salt in it and drink it and repeat and many times as I need to while outside. It keeps my electrolytes in balance and I stay hydrated and the mineral salt is good for us, unlike the plain white box salt. I thought you might like to try it. The gatorade products actually are not good for us, but the advertising gets us to buy into the marketing of it.
Enjoy watching you tend your plants. Take Care! Have a blessed Fourth of July. I also take an umbrella to the parade for shade when it blistering out and my water. God Bless

I live on 1/3 acre and will need to figure out where I can plant them before I do. Thank you for all of the valuable detailed information. I can plant them in the side yard on the garage side of the house, but we have deer, lots of deer, so I am sure the vine is important for nourishing the tubers…so have to protect those vines some way. Would surrounding the planting area with chicken wire contain the vines adequately? Definitely no room for that many vines in the green house.

The vines will climb and probably grow all over chicken wire but it would be awesome looking

Because it is always hot in Texas, I go out early am, or late pm when temps are a little cooler
