you have to beat the game first with all upgrades and items (to unlock the true ending), at the credits scene, the game gives you a password, pick reset on console/emulator and the password is already written in the password option, push start and bualah, you can challenge phalanx with ultimate gargoyle

Yeah, the Ultimate Gargoyle password resurrects all the bosses. You can go to any stage and rematch any boss you wish.
