    Thanks for the video !
    Like you said surviving the first assault is the main wall, after that it's just mass weapons.
    I managed a 22min51 full clear with a lot of pauses on 2nd attempt.
    Weapon Ratio is almost one cannon for one mortar for one sniper, add some missiles, a few sprayers and shields and good positioning.

    Thank you very much for the first 10 minutes of this. I made a couple of vital errors and you've helped me fix those. Eager for another try at the level.
    I managed to quickly and easily secure the left 3 ERNs in every playthrough, with one TERP and a cannon. The small hill is useful. Will try to implement this as starter tactic.

    I have to admit, that was a fascinating gimmicky way to have the Creeper launch a distinctive 'Attack' at you. Seems like a bit of a one trick pony though, once you know it's coming you prepare for it. But then, it only needs to work the first time to be memorable to players.

    • @strategicsage7694

      Judging by player response, it's definitely been memorable. As in, it's the mission most likely to result in outraged posts on discord and Steam :).

    I tried this like ten different times, each time making the same error of being too slow. Thank you for showing my mind that I had to speed things up to survive. Thank you man, you just saved me probably another three hours of trying to defeat the level 😅

    ah, you really have to commit to energy production and getting the erns for range and firerange to have your snipers be good enough to give your mortars enough time to stop the egg attack.

    This map wouldn't be such a chore if the wallis devices were remotely reliable, out of a few dozen attempts trying to beat it without loosing any units, only seen them aim forward a handful of times. But the disruptive warning being too little too late is just frustratingly insulting.

    Thank you for the new video! A bit super late but compared to Creeper World 2 Anti Creeper seems to be in abundance. A very welcome thing since it felt like Anti creeper had some problems in later maps where gravity went all over the place whereas anticreeper often seemed to get stuck in pits and other places not doing much. With how relatively little Anti Creeper each device made it kind of felt like anti creeper was better as a mobile wall to help protect your turrets from a flood of Creeper as they advance to the emitters.

    • @strategicsage7694
      @strategicsage7694  3 роки тому +1

      Better late than never! CW2 was the first shot at anti-creeper, and they definitely went away from a limited supply of it after that, though some of the custom maps made it effectively unlimited with AC emitters. They did have the vacuum ability to move it around if it got put in the wrong place though.

    Thanks for this, I had my suspicious, on what I had to do but kept failing. It seems getting the range upgrade on the snipers is 100% required here, you have zero chance without that, and not building defenses earlier also is otherwise you get energy-blocked a bit and slows you down JUST enough to not be able to build enough snipers too.

    • @strategicsage7694
      @strategicsage7694  10 місяців тому

      I wouldn't say *required* exactly, but no question it makes it a lot easier. There is some serious cheese possible FWIW; going straight to the top of the map for example, or attacking the eggs before they are 'released'. Timing is fairly tight although not as tight as the beginning of Sequence. Wallis is probably the most-failed mission in the campaign; glad you apparently made it through!

  • @flamingkittyumad
    @flamingkittyumad 3 роки тому +3

    This campaign would have been perfectly fine without that breach in the right wall, this mission takes the campaign from a 10 to a 100 in difficulty. worst part is it only gives you 4 minutes to prepare, and only 55 seconds warning instead of the 90 it says

    • @strategicsage7694
      @strategicsage7694  3 роки тому +1

      I've found this is really relative and different players want different things and experience it differently due to playstyles. Wallis is considered the hardest by most players but some think the whole campaign is way too easy, a non-trivial amount found Sequence (which gives you less time to prepare) or Founders to be more difficult. I will say I think the timer is a lot more accurate than you describe. It says Arrival in 90 seconds; the wall starts going down in 55 seconds but the eggs aren't actually released until at least 80 seconds, with actual arrival closer to 85.

      you really should look at #2658 in the colonies. It's a version of wallis... but harder. Speaking of 100 difficulty xD

  • @CapitalGearGaming
    @CapitalGearGaming 3 роки тому +3

    I got a little trick to beating this map easier. In the early game when you have your miners, and basic defenses up and simple economy flowing, i.e you can handle airstrikes, skimmers, blobs etc and a decent defense at the front. Build a backline vanguard of about 8 maybe 10 cannons, once built and armed you fly them over and on top of all the eggs behind the gate, this will set them all off prematurely and cause the incoming wave of the creeper to spread out so much, turning this map into just like any other.

    • @strategicsage7694
      @strategicsage7694  3 роки тому +2

      There are definitely ways like that to short-circuit it, although I don't know if that is necessarily easier. An even cheesier way is just to land right up by the info cache immediately.

    • @CapitalGearGaming
      @CapitalGearGaming 3 роки тому +1

      @@strategicsage7694 fair point, I think it's easier since you don't need the erns right away or tons of snipers and motars for the egg wave. After you set off the egg it's no harder or special than any other map. and yah definitely easiest is to land on the info cache and run tho I was leaning more towards completion of all objectives not just main. I never thought of just landing on the cache. XD

    I always think a good level in any game should allow the player to win first try without any prior knowledge of that level. It doesn't need to be easy, it only needs to be possible.
    I can confidently state not a single person has ever played this level and won it first try.

    • @strategicsage7694
      @strategicsage7694  Рік тому

      I appreciate your thoughts. I'm going to mildly disagree. I think that's a good approach for many games, but I think there's something to be said in some cases for purposefully going for 'gotcha' moments. I do know that in this case, there definitely have been people who completed Wallis on their first try. It all depends really on how 'loose' you are going into it, and also whether you know what's coming by having read about it ahead of time. Some people like to pause a lot and really analyze a level before actually starting it, others just jump right in and go with the flow - I think for *those* people you are quite right, it is highly unlikely they'd get it the first time. FWIW it's also possible to completely cheese this particular mission by going straight to the top of the map, so if you do that you don't have to care about the egg rush.

    • @drunkenhobo8020
      @drunkenhobo8020 Рік тому

      @@strategicsage7694 I don't necessarily mind a "gotcha" moment in gaming, I just think this level went about it in an unfun way. I actually think the next level did it in a far better way, with the way the land creeps up on you. I had to restart that one as it just caught me off guard and I was too late to react to the huge wall of creeper spilling down onto my whole creation. But the point is that was my own fault.
      The introduction of the Air Sac Cauldron was also good - it moved slowly enough for you to assess it and it was possible to deduce what you needed to shoot it down.
      However having 15 eggs thrown at you very early on in the level with 90 seconds warning was just silly, especially as it looks as if the main threat is the very flimsy energy barrier and broken wall to the right. I think it could have been massively improved by having a very small safe zone where you could retreat to when the eggs come, then have to fight back from that. Would also still allow the strategy to be bold and try to take them out.

    • @strategicsage7694
      @strategicsage7694  3 роки тому +1

      It's almost certainly eggs. When they produce an egg, it will explode if a sniper shoots it or if there is no creeper in the area.

      Nullify the spore tower is the only way to stop the eggs. Using shields to protect the nullifier is a common method. I think I did that in this video.

  • @JSLemon
    @JSLemon 3 роки тому +1

    What are the advantages to building out your tower network so broadly and so early? I would expect that doing so would take up all your initial energy and really delay your ability to build other units. But you didn't have that problem at all. In fact, you were able to expand so much more quickly than I ever have been able to. Every time I try to build a bunch of miners early on, they suck up all the energy, my weapons don't get fed, and I get overrun. So I've only been building a couple miners until my base is somewhat secure. But again, you seem to have plenty of energy with speedy distribution. Is that enabled by all those towers? What am I missing?

    • @JSLemon
      @JSLemon 3 роки тому +1

      oh, now I see that the towers themselves create energy. How I missed that before, I'll never know.....

    • @strategicsage7694
      @strategicsage7694  3 роки тому

      Yep, the towers pay for themselves more quickly so at least at first it's the quickest way to boost your economy. FYI in terms of the towers producing energy in general, if you miss the description in the first mission the main place to learn it is in mission 4, Not My Mars. Getting tower energy back online is the point of that mission, there's a yellow hazard warning on screen telling you tower energy is offline etc.

      That's actually not possible; it still works, the map hasn't been changed, and you can see places in the video where it could have been done better such as around 7 minutes where the energy is maxed out.
      What is more likely is it was tried generally, but with some key aspects missing. Sharing the recorder output on the discord would likely get that sorted for you quickly.

      I would suggest slowing down and paying close attention to small matters of build order. There's actually a fair amount of margin for error and it can be done quite a bit better than I did it in the video; if you get enough snipers and mortars up in time, you can handle the eggs fairly comfortably.
