Great video, Ollie, but I just want to highlight that with regards to funding (see 1:02), things are different for NI-domiciled students. Unfortunately, if you're a student from Northern Ireland, you are not entitled to tuition fee support or NHS bursaries. The only funding available is a maintenance loan of up to ~£4800. You may however be entitled to the same support as English students if you "normally live in England" (i.e. you have moved and taken up residence for e.g. employment).

Hi Ollie, your videos have been a great help in my journey, thank you! Quick question - I know that the university is not important for foundation years but do they factor that into your application for training posts? If so, does Warwick stand as well as the other universities?
As far as I'm aware they're still uninterested in where you went to medical school because it's your time as a doctor that matters much more at that point. It's well known that medical schools teach in different ways and emphasise different things, so really don't worry about it - go where you want to go
Hi Ollie, I'm aiming for Warwick 2021 but I have a Law background, and no science A-Levels, and I'm in total panic mode haha. My grades are really good from school, but not science-y since GCSE..I'm scared of being ambushed with science at the interview or being rejected for not having a science degree..
Hi Holly, don't worry about it! Warwick absolutely will not ask you anything sciency, it's much more about your experience and you as a person - happy to discuss in more detail, just drop me a line via my website if you're concerned

Hey there! That sounds good to me - as long as it's hands-on delivery of healthcare specifically (which it sounds like it is) then should be absolutely fine!

@@OllieBurtonMed i haven’t found experience yet, i am trying still. However, i heard that if you try and get care home experience and you tell them you are trying to get into med school they reject you as they want someone committed long term 🥺 which makes sense on their part. So it makes me think whether to actually disclose to them that i want to apply to med school? But then i would need to ask for a reference pretty quickly for ucas 🥴 i don’t know if that is wrong or not? I wouldn’t be ditching them immediately i would want to stay on with them for atleast a year if i enjoyed it and it was a nice place to work. I feel like i should be honest about my situation but i don’t want to keep getting rejected either when work experience closing date (15/10/21) is getting soooo close. 😭😭
I am currently a staff nurse in a&e, but I'm looking to apply in Warwick with 2.2, any chance me getting in with lots of a&e experience ? any helps please ? thanks
Needs to be a 2.1 undergrad. You can get in with a 2.2 undergrad with a postgraduate degree or a PhD though.

Hi Ollie, thank you for such an informative video! I was hoping to apply for Warwick MS this Sept, however I got 2270 in my UCAT, Band 1SJT, so i dont know if it is a deal breaker for the university (as well as my not so good Alevels). I have a 2:1 Psychology degree, enough volunteering/shadowing/currently working as an admin in tube feeding dept within NHS, good GCSE's (incl double science). Would that be a waste of time applying? Many thanks!
Hi Anya! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Your A levels definitely don't make a difference - I think that unfortunately the UCAT score is unlikely to be competitive for Warwick. Obviously never say never and if you need to fill the application space then by all means shoot for it, but I'd advise using that slot for another school if it's a more reasonable option. For my year it was close to 700 average per section, recently seems to have hovered around 650ish per section

Ah yes, I thought it might be the case, unfortunately I don't think I have many options with this score, maybe 2 other Universities, but I will have a browse around and decide if I should be applying this year at all:/ Wish universities took more of a holistic approach to the application process..Anyway, thank you! :)
Hi Ollie, do Warwick accept work experience as a Healthcare Assistant/Care worker that’s not within the NHS? I have 50+ hours of working as a carer for a care home (not NHS-ran), and also 30+ hours working as a COVID-19 vaccinator for the NHS? So although I have experience working within the NHS, i’m unsure as to whether all 70 hours have to be within the NHS
Hi there! I don't think it does have to be NHS - that should be fine for your two experiences I would think!
Hey Ollie, I am international student from India and have a first class degree in economics from a high ranked college in India. I don’t have international a levels so can’t apply to the other courses. What would your advice be to international applicants with a foreign first degree? Is there someone you could interview on how universities perceive such applicants? I looked up online and there very limited information about GEM INternational students. Would be much appreciated!
can I ask what the A level grade profiles are for the graduates - my son is adamant no chance without the A* mix, which he doesn't have and I can't find anything on any grad school saying A levels are critical ? mostly 2:1 Lifesciences degree, work exp and aspiration ?
Really depends on the particular medical school! Some of them still want the classic AAA at A level even with a degree, but most don't. Very happy to chat to your son if he's concerned!
Hey, I was wondering, would they count volunteering at for example : cafe in hospital as a work experience or Emergency response volunteer say if you do it for 70 hrs, would they be able to count that? if not what are other alternatives?
Cafe in hospital I would say probably not as it's not delivery of care. Emergency response volunteer it would depend what you were doing - the key is that you have to be doing hands on delivery of care

Hello - I was wondering do you think Warwick distinguishes between those who have done their medical health experience as a profession I.e. a health care assistant, as opposed to 2 weeks caring in a care home. This is in relation to the 50 hours of hands on care work (I have already done 20 hours of shadowing).
Hi Melanie! No they don't, the work experience is a minimum cutoff rather than an assessed part of the process as I understand it. They're not specifically looking at what you've done or in what context, just that you've done something.

Do clinical placements at undergrad count towards the work experience hours?
I don't believe so - it usually doesn't count placements that are part of courses or work that you're paid for - it needs to be voluntary

You absolutely can!
Do you have students who are career changers and are therefore over 40 years of age (with children)? Anyone over 50?
Both in my year! If you check my channel for the video interview I did recently with Harjot (Paramedic to Medicine), he covers this topic very well!
Once you start FY1, I bet you won’t get as much time at all to make these videos :(
