Love that area for kayak fishing. Just gotta be OK with wind...etc.
Yes sir! Can get dicey!
I live on Smith Creek in Oriental. Nice video. I kayak fish around there.
I see that the ol’ drum are starting to run. Will be coming up there again very soon. Hope to see you out there. Thanks for watching Mark!
great video ! loved the fast forward and editing. 2 day trip ? never been kayak fishing in O. ( Belhaven , Bath & CeeBees in skiff so far ) but your post has it on my list of places to try. thx. Zeke
Thanks Zeke! Single day trip…fished from 5 - noon. Beautiful area up in Oriental. Wish it wasn’t a 2.5 hour drive from Wilmington.
I kayak fish Oriental and usually just catch specs, but I caught my PB Bull drum in Belhaven. 37 inches!
@@shaunhenderson2071 Good work my friend!!
You got some nice fish! I'll be heading that way late August / September for the bull drum run. We usually anchor out in river there and soak a few live / cut baits, hoping for a big red freight train!
I’ll be there! I went once last year but didn’t find them. Hoping for this year!!
@@meistershyster I’ve gone the last two seasons and we’ve managed 1-3 drum per trip. From the Oriental ramp, we go out into the main channel and I usually try to fish drops I can find on the Navionics maps or in spots where there seems to be a lot of baitfish. We use sabikis tipped with shrimp to catch fresh bait (pinfish, mullet, croakers) and keep them alive in a floating minnow bucket. I’ll fish 2-4 rods with either live or cut bait on the bottom and check them about every 30 minutes or so to make sure they still have bait. It goes from boring to exciting very quickly when the drum hit, as they will bow over a Heavy or Extra Heavy rod like it’s nothing.
Hope this helps a bit. See you out there!
Did you try around the pilings around the marina at all? Just curious. I've never tried it. Good job brotha!
Not yet! I haven’t been over there either, not sure what kind of depths. Seems like it would be worth a shot.
Hello! So for your popping cork setup, what did you have as bait? A lure or cut bait? I am thinking of using a popping cork with cut bait to keep my bait away from crabs, pinfish, and flounder
I had a clear red glitter DOA shrimp on the popping cork with shrimp procure. Hope this helps…I also like to use live bait on the pooping cork when available. Thanks for watching!
Great video. Which camera do you use and how much time can you get out of recording
Thanks AH! I use the Insta360 x3. Files record in 30 minute segments. I have a 1TB memory card and the camera is wired to a power bank. I can record all day with that setup.
What’s powering the kayak?
Minnkota trolling motor. Old Town Autopilot 120
How long does your battery last?
I have 100ah battery. I run it at a maximum speed setting of 8. I never run it empty and typically fish about 8 hours in coastal/inshore settings.
Cool video! Subscribed! I fish topsail mainly and some out of Wrightsville when i hit the ocean.. I've been doing a lot of kayak fishn on my channel but gonna switch up to more out of the skiff now that i game my trailer fixed lol
Thanks for the sub PenCo! I’ll look for your channel. Feel free to send a link in the comments for other folks.
@meistershyster awesome! Thanks man! I don't like trolling other channels for subs but I appreciate the offer! Be safe out there! And tight lines! Enjoying the content!
Where did you get your fiddler crabs?
I caught them down in Wilmington. That said, some bait shops will have fiddler crabs for sale. Thanks for watching!
