Which is the Best CLASS B for RVing (Winnebago Travato GL or KL)

- Опубліковано 23 вер 2020
- In today's full time RV living, van life travel vlog, I team up with Scott from Go Small. Live Large! to do a Winnebago Travato GL versus KL video and decide once and for all which is the best full time RV Living Van Life Class b RV.
Both of us live in our Winnebago Travato Class b RV camper vans. Scott has lived in his a lot longer though, so he's had more time to work out the kinks and knows his Winnebago Travato 59GL very well. Im a bit of an RV Newbie and am learning more and more about what I like and don't like every day of full time RV living and van life. While Scott and I both live in a van solo travel, our camping styles are a little different. Scott is more of a city nomad and I am more of an off grid nomad (although Scott's camping style is off grid a lot of the time in cities).
Scott's Winnebago Travato 59GL has 4 distinct RV living areas, my Winnebago Travato 59KL has an open RV living floor plan. There is no right way to do van life or full time RV. You have to find the RV lifestyle and camper van life style that fits you.
At the end of this vid Scott and I answer a bunch of common van life and RV living questions. Those question range in topic and include: solo travel, nomad, rving, rv travel, rv living tips, fulltime rv living, full time rving, rv newbie, and how to rv.

Pro tip, if you want to cool you van, do not buy a dark color exterior, if you have a white or as close to white as possible, your cooling will drop by 20-30 degrees just by reflecting the heat, long time Miami living has taught me white is the only color for a hot sunny climate. It's far easier to heat a van in the cold with a white van than try to cool a dark van in the sun.
That's a good tip. Thanks Bill.
I really enjoyed the back & forth comparisons taking each a area one at a time. The collobration and honest options on what works and what doesn't was fantastic!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting, Karen.
Thx Karen. Kevin is great,
I agree.
Great collaboration! That was not only informative, but fun to watch!
Glad you enjoyed it! Really appreciate the comment, Desiree.
Yes indeed it was. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.
That's so true on sales people. I researched my Prius Prime so much that I was showing the the sales person the car more than he was showing me.
haha....good stuff!
BRAVO!!!
I could never live in a van, but enjoy watching others!
I would like a separate video on personal SECURITY and how do you deal with a possible threat when calling 911 won't be enough.
I will be doing a video on security at some point for sure.
Carry a pistol, oc spray and collapsible asp in the van
Great video. I went with a Thor 20L same as the K. For a bigger guy who’s gonna travel with my wife the open floor plan just works better for us. If I was alone I would like the G. I do miss the under bed garage in the G though.
Yeah, I really like the open floor plan myself.
GREAT Comparison from two guys actually LIVING in their own Vans.
Appreciate the comment, Scott.
Thx Scott... you speak truth
You continue to impress me. This video was so well done... very professional. Thanks for introducing Scott. He’s got tons of personality. What a pleasure. It will be interesting to see what changes you make to your van as your van life progresses.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Bev.
BB appreciate you being intro’d to me ;)
I love this collaboration and the section by section comparison.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Chris.
So cool you guys! Hardest decision is picking a floor plan! And that’s why I don’t own a van or RV yet. Cause I can’t decide!
Absolutely!!!! I still debate with myself about it! :)
Emily my dilemma also. Now I'm thinking of just going utilitarian & not worry about building a floor plan
Nice to see both of you guys doing this comparison video together. I prefer watching real owners doing their honest reviews! 👏👍 I really LOVE the cozy front area of the G but ABSOLUTELY LOVE the open concept of the K. I just wish that there was more room at the back of the G. It needs to be a little wider for me to feel comfortable.
No problem! We had fun putting it together!
My husband and I have rented both the K and the G. K all the way for me. Love the openness, the separate comfortable long beds, the kitchen sink/faucet, the large open bathroom, and the fridge was perfect for a week of supplies. I did miss the large table and garage area in the G.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Obviously, I prefer the K as well!
I started with a Southwind, pulling a small car. Limited. Now I have a Chevy van that I built. It changes every trip, the list is a given. I love the challange and inspiration. True living. I'm retired, single woman, so it's never to late.
Thanks for sharing, Kathryn.
I am 50 and single. I have a Class B and I swear I run into more single, middle-aged guys in the same Class of camper than anything else. It's like we fit a profile or something. Loved the video.
Yep, we definitely fit the profile!
Your killing it. This was a great video. Like to see two you tubers sharing ideas, and loved the comparison between the rigs. Keep the great videos coming.
Thanks man!
You meeting up with other vaners is great again keep up the great content
Thanks, Dondatta.
I like that the bathroom is in the back.....away from the kitchen.👍👍👌
Yeah...it's pretty cool.
To me, the K is the best floorplan. The only thing I don't like so much is the size of the fridge. But, while traveling in most places, there are stores on every corner. So, that I can deal with. The openness of the K and the twin beds and rear bath is what I like most.
Yeah...I agree of course! :)
We actually agonized over buying the K vs G after having a twin bed pleasure way class B for 20 years. We ended up with a 2023 59G as we opted for the separate front "living room" so one can work up front, watch TV during late night or get up early morning so my spouse can sleep in back without interruptions. It's a different change but has worked out so far. We still do miss the twin bed at times.
I get that for sure.
That was way too awesome! My two fav solo class B RV owners collaborating on an episode! That's like Batman and Superman joining forces! Although I'm still torn between the G and K floorplans, this is the best comparison ever! Now if Winnebago can figure out how to mash up the best of these two into one floorplan my purchase decision would be made. Thanks for making all these videos and keepin' it real! Stay safe! 👍🤘😊
You're comment made my day Dee!!!!!
Gentlemen, this video was SUPER helpful. It actually changed my thinking regarding some preconceived ideas I'd had. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting, Judy.
When they spoke about going into the van and practicing doing every day tasks ,they didn't talk about the sleeping situation. The advice I always give to newbies is to kick your shoes off and climb into bed and try it out. Being able to sleep well will determine a good trip or a horrible trip. I remember going to RV shows and my kids running out from the vans in horror as I kicked off my shoes and tried out the beds . Good times. Good times.
Great advice for sure.
Suggestion: instead of turkey or a whole chicken, just cook a Cornish Hen in your convection oven. They are delicious.
Another suggestion……you can usually share your desktop on your computer to the newer smart tv’s remotely if you have a wireless router, or you can purchase a hdmi display adapter to plug into your tv’s hdmi port to connect your pc/laptop display.
Good point
That's what I have at home...no TV....I prefer internet only...my personal 'library'.....lol
I love the comparison! I have a 2019K and am a solo traveler. Driverside is my “couch” and I resolved the dangling feet by usinf a folding step as a foot rest. Does the trick
Ahhh good idea! Thanks for the suggestion Pati!
That's what I thought about if I ever get a 59K. Using one side for my bed and making the other side as a couch.
@@30AndAWakeUp I've seen people buy nice big bolster pillows to make the back like a couch in the Travato FB group and it makes it look really nice.
Scott, your freezer is amazing!
I know...Im so jealous!!!
Toni speaks truth. I currently have TWO 7 pound bags of ice in 1 of the 2 freezer compartments.
Great video Kevin & Scott! Really liked the intro sequence and seeing the side by side comparisons of each floor plan.
Awww thanks...you're the best :)
Thx RV A G :)
well done, guys... love the snaps (!) - so fun to see two SuperStars in this format. thanks for sharing : )
Awwwww.....you're too kind Monica!
I have the 2022 KL. I LOVE the shower... But I had to figure out the secret: use the magnets. My first shower was disappointing because the curtain kept swallowing me & hugging me (sticking to my body). I'm 6'2" 240. The next time I secured the curtain using the 'chess pieces' magnets. What a difference! I now love the shower.
Great advice, Thanks Larry.
I've watched a LOT of videos, this is one of the best collabs I've seen, I've spent hours and hours watching youtube videos on different camping styles attempting to find what will work best for me. I've zero'd in on Class B and I really enjoyed this one and learned a LOT! Thanks!
I’ve been looking forward for this to happen. You guys rock!
Appreciate the comment.
Thx PNoy!!
I'm so excited to see you two together. It's fun to watch you both and I really appreciate the commentary about the different vans and styles of camping/rv living. Good video!!
Glad you enjoy it! We had a blast.
This is a very helpful and informative video. I have seen a couple of your other videos and you do a great job! Thank you for all of the posts/information. Greatly appreciated!
Glad it was helpful!
Ive been watching both of you over the last few months.....This is the best video either of you guys ever did....Very Informative , and fantastic chemistry!
Awesome! Thank you!
That was excellent. Having the different view points and discussing the differences was very helpful. You guys did great. Do more!
Thank you! Will do!
Kevin's open floor plan, Travato KL, is now also in the Dazzle/Twist 2LB floor plan for less $. 2LB =Two long beds. I am tall so I link the 2LB - Travato KL. Both beds are long.
thanks for the info
Two of my favorite Travato guys! Have a ton of fun watching you two separately, and this is just great! Thanks! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
😂😆🤣@15:14-16:00 y’all had me cracking up...from grown men with their feet dangling to the kiddie table...”it just feels weird”. 😂😆🤣
haha....I know, right!
Thank You!! One the most truly informative videos on van life for single person I've seen on UA-cam.
Glad it was helpful!
Enjoyed comments by both contributors. This and other videos by each of you helped us in 2021 to decide to order a 2022 Travato 59KL now known as our GNOME HOME that explored the Canadian Rockies. One of you helped us visit the Rockford dealership and the other unfortunately gave up his Travato Park Edition. Anyway, Thanks for your help.
very cool...congrats!!
@@30AndAWakeUp Thanks. We still visit my in laws in DeSoto. Are you back to class B travel? The 2023 Travato 59KL has a brand new digital dashboard with enlarged monitor screen. We missed it by 1 month. Karl
Yes! A 30 and Go Small collab! Hope you guys do more!
Haha...thanks Steven!
Me too Mr Chen!
Absolutely enjoyed the way you compared the two vans. You both did a terrific job presenting the pros and cons of each style. Very helpful information. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!! Thanks for watching and commenting, Larry.
Had to come over here and leave a comment also! Great job Kevin! Love the collaboration between both of you and always helping us discover the options for Van life!
Awesome! Thank you!
Hi Cheri D over here :)
30 and a wake up is my stress relief capsule.. 🙏🙏
haha..thanks!
I love this edition. Thank you both for sharing!!
Glad you enjoy it!
Two of our favorite van life UA-camrs! How exciting. Thanks for the video guys :)
Thanks for watching!
Gives me a lot more to think about which one to purchase. I’m glad you two brought up looking at the differences and also considering the REBEL...just not all into MB. Anyhow....there were a lot of people on the T-wantabee sight discussing this topic yesterday and you two come here with it.... AWESOME !!! Thanks !!!!
I love the Revel too! Thanks for watching and commenting, Deborah! And thanks for always sharing my vids! :)
Thanks for the tour. I have to say I prefer the G. Large fridge, distinct dining area, and a really practical bath.
I get the draw to the G for sure. Appreciate the comment.
Outstanding video! Thank you Kevin and Scott for helping me makes some decisions.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching and commenting, Bill.
Glad we could help out!
Invaluable information & a pleasure to watch! I love the snapping of the fingers lol. This was one of the best for people considering van life on UA-cam. Awesome! 💕❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you both for this comparison video!!!
Thanks for watching!
Very Good job gentlemen. Lots of good insight about being a full timer. Thank you. Happy and safe travels to the both of you.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Pat.
Great comparison and thanks for video! Lots of options and you can pick the one perfect for you. I like both for different reasons. Have a great rest of your day Kevin!
Thank you soooo much Michelle!
Thanks for the great comparison on the vans. As someone looking at getting into this type of lifestyle good informative videos are a plus. Many thanks.

Awww...you're too kind! :) Thanks for watching and commenting, Laura.
thanks, that was great, nice to see the differences not only in the rigs but in the way you guys camp! great advice about renting RVs beforehand!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting, Katherine.
This was well designed! Enjoyed how you presented the differences. Awesome job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for teaming up for a very informative video. You both have been very instrumental in my selection of the Travato - I selected the GL. Waiting on delivery.
Glad it was helpful! Appreciate the comment, Jack, and congrats on the Travato!
Guys thank y’all for sharing your video and knowledge
Our pleasure!
Excellent. Professional video with the cut aways. I watch both of you. Great to see u together.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks again for stopping by Bill.
This was fun and I don't even have a Travato, though I do like them! And I stared at floorplans forever- BUT seeing you guys in it and such clear explanations. This was truly one of the most helpful videos out there- clear and pro's and con's that we couldn't see oursleves.
Wow...thanks for the wonderful comment, YBD! :)
👍I loved watching this video. 💝 Good Q&As and comparisons. Thank you. Safe travels. 🤗💞🤗
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks LA!
The one with the 2 long seats that act as beds also is definitely better for me . More spacious feeling inside much tidier looking
Yeah, I really like it! Thanks for watching and commenting. 🚌
@@30AndAWakeUp thanks for the reply . I live in Ireland and have a 6m ( 19.5ft) coach built motorhome. It is a very comfortable inside however I would prefer a van conversion like yours however the whole European market for technology is so far behind the USA 🇺🇸 . The interior comfort of motorhome coach built type is very good though
When it comes to van conversions the comfort level is very very basic and the idea of real independent living its miles behind ... there is no vehicles that have volt start with lithium batteries or air con or built in generators . It’s not so bad in Ireland 🇮🇪 but if you went to southern France or southern Spain 🇪🇸 on the Mediterranean in spring or summer it’s going to be way to hot with no real independent power to power aircon . Even if you goto campsites they limit the amount of power they give you .
So the USA 🇺🇸 for free spirit independent living in all seasons is years ahead ... god bless America 🇺🇸 lol 😝
Great video!!! You two set this up really well. I just loved the comparison between the two rigs
Just love watching your videos and will watch the other channel as well.
Stay safe and Well

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting, Sheila. Say hi to Chrome from Van City, Van Life for me up there in Vancouver!
You two are living the van life ! Good job 👍
Thanks 👍
Fun to see you guys together! I hope to see you again. All the best!!
Thanks!!! :) So glad we got to hang out in Idaho and meet you!!!
Thanks for sharing all the information. I loved you two comparing and sharing. I enjoy both of your sites and this was so interesting and inspiring!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome video! I really appreciate how you put this viewing together by showing/explaining each section separately rather than a complete tour of your home & then his home. This offered a much more detailed comparison of the two. Both units have their perks and i would surely have a difficult time choosing which one to buy. I LOVE having the TV on..even just as background noise and your rig has the better view of it while eating or laying down or for spending a rainy day inside watching movies, and for that reason I'd probably have to choose yours.
I turn the TV on for background noise as well sometimes! :)
Excellent discussion guys, well done. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is a great video! Both of you guys provide very important insight on a very big decision...it gives me a lot to think about. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! And thanks for watching, Jason.
Woohoo!! Loved the video and seeing you guys together! 🤙🤙🤙
Ahhh thanks guys!!!
Thx guys. Was fun. Kevin is awesome. Can we do a collab in FL together this winter?
@@gosmall.livelarge Yes!! Let's do it!!
I love this comparison, with two people I have been following and learning from. Someday I hope to own a van myself. Thanks for showing the truth about van life.
Thanks for watching!
Fun comparison video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
The best informative "B" video I have seen. Thanks, guys!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for stopping by again.
Thank you both for this comparison, it really helps show a close up of the differences between the K and the G. Thanks for posting.
Our pleasure!
Excellent Video, Great Editing, and Super Collaboration Kevin!
👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was so useful in helping me decide which van to get. Thank you both!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and commenting, Elizabeth.
Excellent video, thanks for sharing!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching and commenting. 🚍
Snap and we are there and there! Kevin your van is extremely tidy and Scott's is decorated everywhere.
haha...definitely different styles :)
I like and sub both channels...just want to say Scott's wrap job on his Travato really rocks. Kevin I appreciate you too! Great content, guys.
Yeah, it really is awesome. Im thinking about getting one.
This was so cool . I loved all the info
Thanks.
Thanks for introducing Scott. I am now subscribed to his channel.
Awesome, thank you!
Thx Gene!!
@@gosmall.livelarge I recall seeing your partner in previous videos. Am I accurate that he use to RV also? Maybe the two of you together, but I have this faint memory of him telling that he is now alone.
Gene Siesky, Thx for asking. Kyle, life partner of 20 years so far, flys in to join me, we stay in Marriotts, buzz around, and then he returns to wherever. Not a bad arrangement over all.
Awesome collaboration. Very interesting and informative.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting, Chris.
Really enjoyed you both together and difference of perspectives.
Glad you enjoyed it!
thank you so much for this video. I loved it you guys.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting. 🚍
Thanks so much for this - this was super helpful as my wife and I are just now starting to consider getting a Class B.
Glad it was helpful!
It was great to meet you guys in Wallace!! We loved seeing your vans there & love this breakdown video showing the differences! We’re definitely not ready for van life yet but when these kids move out we’re thinking about getting one! We really like Scott’s layout but they’re both awesome!! Enjoy your travels!
Thanks! It was soooo awesome to meet you two as well!
Thank you guys. You are both fantastic ❤️
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching and commenting.
this was a really great collaboration guys!
Thanks!
I like the respect that you both have for each other and the way you both Converse with one another, I also see you have a sense of humor when you said you use the restroom with the door Open And enjoy the view 😀
Thank you so such Rhonda. I really enjoyed hanging with Scott.
Excellent review of capabilities and limitations. The Harvest Host tip is outstanding tool. Thanks for the great Class B education. BZ
Glad it was helpful!
Cool video showing both perspectives. I like them both.
Me too! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great video. Thanks for keeping it real about van life.
You bet! Appreciate the comment, 828.
Love it! Been waiting on you guys to do a collab and this was perfect because you are both solo travelers and have Travatos. Scott talks about his floor plan a lot, but was definitely interested on your view of the K. Great info and great job!
Thanks Erin, it was fun to put together.
Thx Erin!
Love the rear bathroom with idea of showering outdoors.
Yeah...if it was just a tad more functional it would be perfect
Best comparison on the internet! Thank you!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching and commenting. 🚍
Thank guys, great information. 😀
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting, Cheryl.
Great video... I really Love that you put out a lot of information on not only your van, but the 2 different models that have 2 different floor plans. I honestly thought winnebago on made the revel Van's. Now that I seen your video I now know that there 3 types of Van models that can be considered for van life.. keep up the good work. I'm learning so much about van life and the van quality.
They actually make 3 other vans besides the Revel and Travato. The make the Solis, Boldt and Era.
