All my video's are based on how to play darts as well as advise on equipment and general darts setup with the aim to guide dart players in their darting journey.
I am a full time darts coach working with PDC Professionals and armatures alike.
I throw around an 80 average myself with my left hand due to in injury and dartitis in my right arm.

Ladies and gentlemen if you need any coaching this guy is the man to see he’s helped me a lot ,looking forward to my next session daniel keep it up buddy 🎯
I been noticing this for a while now. Glad to see that it’s true. Don’t need to point at where you are throwing
I take it that they mean extend the arm naturally on the line of the target, not specifically holding the hand in a direct line to where you're aiming the dart at the end of the follow through. That is taking the statement rather too literally.
Great insight once again . Thanks for your time it always helps !
Thank you. :)
Love the credits!
Nice to see advice put into perspective.
Hi STTP , yep good vid . Recently had an arm injury , "compartment Syndrome" muscle & nerve damage. Now from this video I realise , I'm releasing to late . Thanks 👍👍
Brilliant thanks! Now I know what I've been doing wrong!
it was such a helpful video I had to subscribe. great job....
Holy crap! Thank you sir! I WILL hit my first 180 today!
Have you hit one yet...
When you showed what not to do I realised that was exactly what I'd been doing! Great advice has helped me game so much
I was struggling hitting tops so I thought I'm not pointing at it, brilliant advice back to the drawing board
Great tips, thanks mate!
Thanks for this video, i was doing that also and had insane arm pit injury because of that. After some rest i kept going and now i started to feel it again. Now i know what was probaly causing it. Over extended my arm to point at the T20.
👍excellent, liked and followed
Thank you so much 👍
Great stuff brother.
Thank you mate 😊
Good video
Great Video! Maybe you can get into Wayne Mardle´s "Early release" aswell, cause i tried it with friends an the darts all came into the board very very high. so might be one of those cases to have a look into. Thanx again
Love this content 🙏🏻 Little corrections at the start of this obsession make a world of difference 🎯🤷♂️
There's 2 lines to aim at, vertical and horizontal. I think he was talking about the vertical line. You wouldn't want to point at the referee on your follow through.
Correct. But if you follow some other youtubers, that's clearly not what they coach.
I always appreciate your videos. They make me stop and re-examine my throw and I often revisit them to try to nip those bad habits whenever they reemerge.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Gold, Gold, Gold, thanks for the great advice on every clip, please never stop, favorite Coach 👍
Thanks, will do! :)
Great video Daniel 👍🏻🎯
Hi I have a question, I currently am throwing at the 19s as I hit them more consistently than the 20s should I stick to this or work on my 20s?
Good question,
There is nothing wrong with 19s unless for playing at an extremely height level.
Stick with what your more confident with but practice all big trebles.
T20, T19, T18, T17 and the bullseye all play a big part in leaving better finishes and winning matches.
It may also help to watch my video and elbow height as I show the correct way to switch targets at the end. :)

Thanks for this. As someone that only started a couple years ago, I can attest that this little "tip" is everywhere.
Definitely. Thank you!
Nice throw
I've seen this clip of Phil before. It's what you said....I lowered my hand while sighting. Game changer 🙌
Great content! I have been focusing on my follow through and palm down after, and its certainly helped, will look to book a session in soon sir!
The only time I’m pointing at the target is the aim and release point. The follow-through is an ENTIRELY different thing…
I’m so happy I’ve seen this , just started playing darts with the hopes of getting decent thank you
Tq for tips..... it's really helpfull for non professional player....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for what you do... the two things ive always struggled with is practicing-after 4 days of 4 hours each my arm is toast and have to take two days off...To combat that I'll warm up for a half hour and then treat some days of practice like a tournament, 501 bo-5 loose and you're done shooting for the day... The second thing......every now and then I forget my grip lol, that ever happen to you? I can go long periods of time and be fine and then out of the blue , its like uhmmm im doing something wrong this just doesnt feel right, even if im gripping it the same or just being duhhhhhh! lol. Ive combated that with taking a picture of my grip and it's helped , but still that ever happen to you?
Definitely, somdays the grip dose feel wrong. That makes have the right darts so important. Try and make notes when the grip feels good and also have a plan B for it. Normally your gripping with the tips of the fingers more than usual or the otherway around. :)
Forget the grip? ^^ I just started a couple weeks back. I have a no grip. I don't even feel where I hold the darts. It's driven me to videos about them fancy darts(-reviews). That I need a 50€ set of darts with them fancy shaped barrels with uber claws.
I have now a super beginner grip that is easy to reproduce. And just not to forget I throw 6 darts of 2 different sets mixed together to remind me once in a while : No! this doesn't feel right. Mind the grip.
@@Straightdarts I am glad I'm not the only one lol... I've been throwing on the Ted Hankey barrels since I started in 2013... Have tried pretty much every shape and balance out there, and I cant get away from the barrel no matter what other darts I have tried. Jefferey De Zwann barrels come very close and sometimes I'll use those on my off moments lol. I really dislike that Ted went and got himself in huge trouble, because that means Winmau will cancel the set and I'm hoping they release the barrel named something else...hopefully...maybe. Currently giving the vapor 8 black and blue a good go just to have a third option in the case. Thank you again for what you do! Keep up the great work! You are truly awesome!! Cheers.
Ok im following through with my wrist and fingers now and they are flying straight and lovely. Still id love any tips. Thx
This makes so much sense. Thank you
The only time I point at the target is when I'm having a bad session and I chuck a beer bottle at it!
I'm new at this, but.....the release isn't a point is it? You let go of the dart at different points with different fingers....right? So the "release" is a process, isn't it? (If I'm completely wrong, don't cut my head off here. I just want to learn, and I'm new to it and never had a coach. So be creative if you're going to critique me)
Good question :)
The release point depends alot on the player dimensions and elbow height. The key is to make sure your elbow isn't moving and that your wrist is flicking at the point of release. Keep the elbow still and just lift the wirst up and over. You'll find your release point. :)
I’ve developed a nasty habit. My elbow swings in when I pull back which changes the trajectory of my dart and I can’t seem to be able to stop even though I’m aware that it’s happening. I haven’t been able to hit a 180 in over a year!! I’m getting to the point where I don’t really even want to play competitively anymore. I’m soo frustrated 😞
It's your alignment to the board. I'll do a video on it for you in the next few weeks :)
@@Straightdarts Wow thanks!!
Super happy I found ya on the UA-cam. I’m 6’4” in the US so a lot of soft tip darts. Love your advice and the simple tips that work. There is a lot of rubbish in the tube but not yours. What is your averages at the moment. And do you play in leagues? And how do you do in the leagues or tournaments?
Glad I could help. Since coaching has become my full-time job my game has dropped. I had to stop playing County due to the hours I'm working ect. I was in hospital through December, and since then, my average has been around 70 to 85. I currently play twice a week in non ranking leagues, but I was a few small local events last year. I'm hoping to play a lot more events this year though, be nice to find my feet and win something a bit bigger. :)
Good stuff and well explained - once again! Best dart advice online, no contest :) (and lovin' the addition of the credits)
Fantastic channel and information
I am I guess a back grip guy , but find how I old my dart is actually on the stem , what darts do you recommend for me? I use Paul lim gen 2 right now with cosmo number 2 shafts and Ross snook flights , I find my darts some days go straight in the board and others days the tip up !! Why does this happen ? Thanks
This video should help you understand why the dart is kicking up. Your putting more weight at the rear of the dart for longer. You may need to work on keeping the grip more consistent or pushing the dart off the fingers the same way eatch time. :)
ua-cam.com/video/Lo_2LiAhqBY/v-deo.htmlsi=6PUzz19Hl-FuvuPp
Side question here -- thanks for posting the slowed down footage of pro throws. I noticed Phil Taylor pulls the dart back to beside his right cheek (i.e. not perfectly under his eye then). I also do this (often the flight actually touches my cheek), and had been considering it a mistake, and trying to adjust my throw to not pull back so far. Your throughts on this?
You need to work on your timing, try decelerating into a pause at the end of your drawback and don't draw with your arm, use your wrist.
Danke für's Video und die Arbeit dafür. Grüße an alle! 😄
I don't get it. Every coach says not to move elbow and shoulder but I don't see anyone keeping them still. Is it just sposed to be still until the point of release? Thanks for the vid
Correct, the elbow will move after release, buts you want to lift it as little as possible. If your taller it's easier. Watch RVB it's so still but he is tall.
If you look at Taylor the wrist moves before the elbow still but as lift after release is needed :)
I play darts on mondays and fridays in a pub leauge at derby and whenever i win the first leg the 2nd and 3rd my hand goes shaking like nerves how can i over come that?
I find a pre-shot routine is very important. Also, try a deep breath before you approach the oche and exhal as loud and as hard as possible. Whilst you exhal, let tour shoulders sink down.
I also like to pretend I'm playing against my practice partner. 🙃
Mate, your videos are so good. Had a dart board when I was a boy, but couldn't get the hang of a consistent throw - not to mention that my garage which housed the board had a steep incline haha.
Moving into a house with my partner soon and can't wait to set up a dart board at the right height and distance and start practicing. Top channel! Thank you!
Thank you so much mate. :)
@@Straightdarts :D
I fell victim to this. Thanks very much for this video. Switching topics, hoping to get your expert advice. I'm not quite certain how to correctly aim a dart. Since the dart is out in front. Do you look at the point or tip of the dart and in your mind think. I need to propel this dart from the point or tip of the dart to the target on the board. Or is it just focusing intensely on the target not considering the tip of the dart and just throwing at the intended target? I was a very good baseball pitcher when I was young. I through a perfect game when I was 12 years old. My coach always told me, don't aim the ball, just throw it at the target. However darts is different, because the dart is out in front of you prior to being drawn back. Allowing it to be aimed, as opposed to just thrown at the intended target. Thanks very much for your valuable time.
You want to see the path you need the dart to travel down, and sometimes that takes some time to learn how your darts fly. Then, visualise the path you need your darts to fly down. Think of it as an invisible tunnel. See the line of the shot, more than just looking at the target. And always keep the dart under your line of sight. You should always be able to see the target over the dart. :)
This is great!!! You help lots of people! Why do people scrunch up their middle finger?
The middle finger just slightly touches the center of the barrel for stabilisation. :)
Thank you!!
Does your elbow height change with the area of the board you’re aiming at? Eg 19’s instead of 20’s or does that stay the same?
Yes but it about adjusting your body and not just lowing your elbow, give these videos a watch :)

I still not have a smooth flight although i grip it at the back with the pencel grip.
Have you got any tips?
Is the dart wiggling side to side? Or just up and down?
That's the problem I have
Quality advice this.
Great content mate
Just started darts and found your videos, your alignment vid and the tips about following through properly has really helped, already throwing them straighter ! Great vids cheers mate
Hi mate, I practise throwing alone, good practise
But I cant bring my practise throwing in dart tournemant
My arm became weak and slow,
Do you have any solution for this mate
Tqvm
It's all to do with timing. When you play under pressure tge first thing you lose is your timing. You need find a pause after your draw-back and flick the wrist more. :)
Thank you mate, I have a tournament tomorrow, will try out
1) pause after the draw back
2) flick the wrist more
Tqvm
Thank you mate, it feels like I have never thrown darts before but it was surprising to improve my throw more than before, or maybe I am doing it wrong all this time, tqvm
How do you get the darts up to the treble 20 if you’re going down with the arm
By lifting the wrist instead of the elbow :)
I read about that pointing thing when I was trying to tighten up my throw, but quickly realized it didn't work.
Hello. I have trouble having a straight elbow when throwing and do i need to add pressure to my elbow to keep it straight? Do you have any advice?
Its most probably your alignment to board, I'll make a video on this in the next few weeks. :)
If I was to follow through as fast as the pro's, I would throw my dart through the board itself... 🤔🙈
Tell me if I'm wrong but where I was looking down the flight and holding my dart where the point appears to be level/even with my target now that I've lowered my hand im still aiming/staring down the flight some but more im just looking at the target. They have started (far as my sight tells me) to pop up and into the treble 20 right before they hit the board. Say for example it looks (and feels because it is new for me) like it's going to hit the board in the 20 segment but low they are arching up at the last second. Thx for the advice. Any tips for me?
I could be a few things...
Releasing to early, Lifting the elbow to much on the throw or not going throw with the wrist.
Keep the elbow still and push tge dart down the line you want it to travel until you arm is level.
@@Straightdarts thank you man seriously I appreciate it
@@Straightdarts I'm literally taking a screen shot of your advice 😆 thx mate
@@Straightdarts NOW it makes perfect sense
Biggest thing was I wasn't pointing my elbow towards the target enough. My pic is going to change very soon from a ton 40 to a ton 80. Wouldn't have happened if not for your reply. Thank you mate. I hope you soar on UA-cam. You deserve it 👏
Ok but where should your arm finish at when you are throwing at a double would it be the same T20 to bull distance from the double?
Always let the arm finish level with your shoulder. Watch my master class on switching targets. :)
Thank you I've always been maverick all this follow through has always been hard to understand I do watch your switching targets video and the rest I find I believe more in your tips than all the others
Thank you.
Damn , this is one bit of advice I followed . Back to basics for me i think.
What darts do you recommend for newbies?
I'd always strat with a straight tungsten barrel around 23g that middle of the road then experiment with a front-loaded dart when you get a chance. :)
Some casual power scoring. Great video.
Thx so much, was under this miscoception
how do i go about getting a session with you?

Hi Daniel . Please tell me how you got rid of Dartitis . I first got it severe 30 idd years ago and battled on and off for tears with it and not to bad last 6 or 7 years . I changed my throw and grip recently as I was playing so bad and now Dartitis has crept back into my game .
I have played with opposite hand before but find it difficult getting alignment with arm and aim . Have you a video on this ? Cheers .
Hi buddy, I feel you pain. I took me year to switch hands. I haven't made video on how I did that but I might do it oneday. I made this video on dartitis though: ua-cam.com/video/iq4XEihhyiA/v-deo.html
For me, there is nothing wrong with the pointing advice, Paul Nicholson says the same thing in his Masterclass video. It is supposed to be something like a guideline, if someone has no idea how to start building up something like a throwing technique.
Paul Nicholson dosnt do it either.
Hi, i just wondered if you could answer my question please. Im always looking to improve and recently for a laugh i started tilting my darts to the ground slightly instead of pointing them up slightly before i throw. So im not aiming the tip of the dart at the target, but i couldnt believe how much more accuracy i was getting and also my dart was hitting the board at a much better trajectory,ie slightly pointing down. Is it ok to carry on like this? I dont want to get into bad habits but my average has gone up since doing this. Are there any top players who hold the dart slightly pointing down? As always thanks in advance.
Its fine, :) Most Welsh players do this. Price, Rees, Williams, Warren, Webster ect. As long as you correct the angle after the drawback, it works well. I hit my 1st 180 like that. :)
Thanks for the quick reply. That's great to know. @@Straightdarts
I stopped doing this a few weeks back as I found it wasn’t working, I just let my arm go naturally to the point it stops following threw I get better results now, big change in my throw.
I you throwing with you right?
Glad your results are getting better, and no I fliped the screen in editing to make it stand out from the bad throw example. If you look at my tattoo it's still my left hand. A few people though I'd switched. :)
Do you need to line the dart up below the dominant eye before releasing?
No, just make sure your aiming down the line your throwing with both eyes and really try to lock your dominant eye onto the target. You should never need to bring the dart at an angle greater than the center of your nose. :)
@@Straightdarts Ok thanks. At the minute I’m raising dart up to eye level and aiming by looking through flight to treble 20 so can’t always see treble 20
So confused... are you left handed or right handed or ambidextrous? Great video.
Left handed, I way throwing with my left hand I just forgot to flip the screen in editing 🙃 haha if you look at my tattoo it's my left arm. :)
I just watch John Lowe videos for my darts coaching as i think for me personally there's no one better to watch but always willing to learn from anyone and try different options to try and get that little bit more consistent
I learn alot of teaching from Lowe. If you watch his advice in How to play darts the John lowe way, he talks about resting your elbow on a table and not lifting. It's the same as I'm teaching in this video. :)
Great video many thanks keep up the great work
Wheres masterclass 1 ???
ua-cam.com/video/oWuNJM_rAzI/v-deo.html
Nice lesson,thanks 👍
i think what phil meant was the 'point' is just to see the trajectory of the dart not literally point at the target itself
Correct, thats not what some channels are teaching.
Good advice will defo try
I tend to throw left now and then so annoying...
Make sure your elbow isn't turning and you're flicking straight. As long as your alignment is good, it should go straight. If you are doing all of these but find you keep hitting the same place in the five or one bed, then you must be spinning the dart off, and it's a grip issue.
@Straightdarts thanks for your help sir I even hit the 12 usually treble lol sometimes I'll hit treble twelve then 2 treble twenties must be like you said moving the elbow or flicking the fingers of wrist left...
Good shit mate 👍👍
My shoulder is killing me the last few weeks. Not sure what to adjust in order to minimize shoulder action in my throw. Any tips?
Try and keep you shoulder sunk down and lifeless when you lift the darts. Only lift the dart using your forarm.
Thanks, I'll try and keep that in mind. Do you still do 'throw analysis? I was on your website, but I think 'Darts Coaching' link is broken. Thanks again in advance 🙂
NM, found it 👍
Big thanks for the throw analysis. Huge improvement already and feels way more comfortable on the shoulder. I'll be looking for another analysis in a few months 👍
Brilliant
Do you have a video (that I possibly didn't find in the one minute I tried) about how not to hurt your elbow? I'm an absolute beginner and when I throw out my arm I almost always feel my elbow hurting.
I don't have on on the specifically but I do have one on the elbow height, that may help. I'll put the link below. Make sure there is no hyperextension and you keep it as still as possible.

@@t2dghealthyresearch952 Thanks, I'll try that. Definitely throwing too hard now.
Always so good. How long is the wait in the video analysis n
I normally complete the personal throw analysis orderd on my website with in 5 days. :)
@@Straightdarts that will leave me plenty of time before league play resumes
How can u go against Phil the power
I didnt. Look at where his arm is pointing. Unless he is 10 feet tall, the treble 20 is nowhere near it 🤔 and when you see the full clip of his arm, it proves it. Not one player in the top 32 lifts their arm up to the target.
The worst advice is any advice let players find their own style.
I didn't insist players do this, I just pointed out that no pros throw like this, at all. Everyone throws a dart differently but all the best players do some things the same. If you don't do them, you won't be consistent. If you, really believe that comment, why watch advice content?
Hi mate I keep getting really bad pain on the inside of my elbow while I play darts do you have any advice or do you think I can sort it out by myself. Keep up the good work 💪
Dosnt it feel like an ache after the gym or a sharp pain?
