This is great for #QuarantineLife #WuhanTimes
Does anybody know where are those diaries from and if they are available somewhere?
Why only 24 hr ? NWO freaks planning this life for most of us very soon. No money, no electricity, no education, but surely work, work, work... manual labor for stupid servants.
So true
Thank you for posting these videos! There was a similar show where they went back in time to work like this, but there was also a Lordship and Ladyship. And the only thing I can remember about that show was when the show was about over the Ladyship started crying about it being over and how she enjoyed having everything done for her and one of the maids thinking it was rude that, back in time, the maids had to turn to the wall when the Lord or Lady came near them. Anyone remember that show?????
As a human once says along the lines of "Being poor is only romantic in novels and movies. In real life, it's smelly room, rats, leaking roofs and empty stomachs."
Zimik Kachui Victor Hugo, is that you?

@@frankienarcimous7830 I'm not sure. I saw the quote in a book back when I was very young and I guess I'm lazy. Never bother to Google it. I hope it's Victor Hugo though. 😂
the young lad is so into it, 10 minutes in and he started stealing
He's already on that skyrim mindset lol.
Lol
was he possibly the best part of the show??? can we say plot development? ☺️
Yea, he is British so I bet he had to read Charles Dickens in school...that was the real deal.

Usually people ask "what would you do without your smartphone for a few days" but none of them complained about missing their phones here, everybody misses modern plumping and toilets. A lack of smartphones would barely go noticed, lack of modern toilets though could easily take humanity back to that era.
But with cell phone you could learn how to create better toilets and plumbing like modern era. Remember knowledge is power.
@@ShouttoJesusChrist doesn’t make any sense man.
@@ShouttoJesusChrist Since no one had yet invented modern toilets, and there was no electricity let along the internet, how would you be able to look up anything?
Yes!! We only miss our phones when we have nothing to do! Even nowadays it's quit rude to check your phone amongst friends or family and doesn't cross your mind when you are very busy
I would mainly miss my phone for the knowledge. I use my phone as a mobile encyclopedia lol
I love how they instinctively start acting as a family and sharing their earnings. Such a cool show with great "cast."
Exactly what I thought.
You know why? Because these people didn't know lack. It's either much more than 24 hours that shows what really is inside, or when a person knows what that really means, but behaves a human regardless of the inhumane conditions.
The young dude who started stealing and gamling. Now that's what I call being immersed into it
venomtail1 when he decided to gamble he instantly became my favorite.
Man of the north I agree-
some kid on the internet - it don’t love you.... trust me
Yeah what a legens
He looks weird,like a lion
When someone says I love Victorian era, they always imagine themselves in the aristocracy, not the lower class
Or a "lower class" like on novels that the "lower class of novels" living conditions arent bad and they live an amazing life and that they would have an aesthetic life, and they imagine that a Handsome prince (or a princess) fell in love with them and they end on a castle being happy af
I still love it
@Cole Czecho um I've been poor a loooong time and it involves selling items so I can eat. You do realize there is actual poverty still in the west? People are honeless and struggle to afford food and shelter. Clearly you arebt imagining actual poor people in the year 2020 cuz I highly doubt my years of manual labor and struggling to afford food and not being able to afford to see a dr is not how victorian upper class lived.
You seem to forget there was a Middle Class as well, at least in the USA anyway. So that Middle Class? Machinists and other skilled tradesmen. Not too sure about the UK since almost everybody who wanted a better life went into the British Army. From what I could gather from old photos, the British Farmer during the Industrial Revolution, the ones who embraced machinery, did quite well for themselves!
@@bearsbeetsbattlestargalactica8 Dude, you should get your GED or High School equivalent for starters, then get a job and really stick with it, don't smoke, drink or gamble (those are the biggest money losers) buy a van and live in that, your cash savings will increase and you'll come out of desperate poverty.
It’s interesting how Ann goes from being the moral one to causing the most trouble
And the boy saying hello family after night shift 😂

Ann was the Minister Of Prisons from 95 to 97. She knows how it happens and to make it trouble happen.
She scolds him "now you haven't got a penny or a pie!"
Correction...he doesn't have 2 pennies or a pie.
The old woman berating the young boy for gambling away his pennies was just golden
Ummmm... How? She was rude, arrogant, and bossy.. Literally the WORST kind of person I swear.
@@CuttySobz It reminded me of the kind of thing you might actually see in that century. The type of interaction between a grandmother and grandson.
Also this was early in the season, her rude arrogant and bossy nature didnt even start showing up that much yet.

The average Victorian would definetely be disgusted if we showed them all the still edible food the supermarkets were just throwing away.
Im still disgusted by it! It’s horrible, at least donate it to the needy if you’re going to throw it out.
@@em-ov7tg It is true. The waste that one supermarket throws out can literally feed 4 villages in Africa.
@@axelgidius3324 It’s so sad that companies would choose to waste that food even thought it isn’t that spoiled! Sickening

If I were teleported into the Victorian era, I would run away into the woods and live there. The Victorian era is just so freaking deadly I don’t wanna take chances
I do wonder how many people did this, and how available knowledge about surviving self-sufficiently in the wild was.
The cities were despicable.
Probably labeled as a witch
@@rkless_jayirl13 I’ll be the witch that lives in the woods! I study nursing and herbology so I’ll survive some small illnesses at least. For shelter I can try and make a hidden one if I find a nice thick tree or some small hidden cave, if not hidden and at least small I can cover the entrance with stuff. That’ll do until I need to dive deeper in the forest due to the city expanding, I’ll also have to have someone start some rumor of the place around me to be haunted as a way to scare off most cowards. Still would have to dive deeper due to braver people.
Why ... your expose to the modern would put u leaps and bound above the common man ... e.g Ur ability to read ,write, and general math ability, and that is without considering your general knowledge of the world and wat could be utilized to better ur/there condition.
Ran to forest would just leave u vulnerable to wild animals and/or Robbers.
Imagine how easy it would be to die in the victorian era. Miss one day of work and you starve. How did poor people afford kids?!?
The children probably worked as well
parents waited for them to die of malnutrition
@@letsgoammy7765 They did, that or they sent the kids out to pick pockets, and the like. Easier for a kid to get away stealing, than an adult.
I can’t even imagine how they got in the mood to make the kids living in squalor like that and working all day
@@chevon1920 Easy, it's the only enjoyable thing they had in life.
I like how everyone was so pumped and excited about doing this show and within 24-hours their souls were crushed. I think media and other literature romanticize the Victorian Era which makes us forget or overlook the harsh reality of what people really did back in the day.
I really like your comment : )
They probably thought that they will be high class.
Yeah. the movie, The Titanic, portrays Victorian Era but also portrays part of the Era that most people, the working party experienced. Such as the lower class deck on the ship and when the ship was sinking, they put the more wealthy ppl into the life saving boats than the poor
@@alejandrathompson7687 While the point makes sense, and working classes and all other marginalised groups were treated horribly in the period, I don't believe the Titanic can be classified as Victorian. It sank in 1914. Queen Victoria died in 1901.
@@alejandrathompson7687 Titanic was not in Victorian Era, it was the Edwardian era. If this is 1840 as the woman said in the beginning then Titanic came 70 years later. A lot changed in those years.
These shows always make me realize the sad fact, that for most of human history, unless you were wealthy, life basically wasn't worth living.
Sad and to then to now when you compare, we should be proud for being poor but still not suffering like Victorian poor family
In some places, it's still like this. Small children in Africa are mining cobalt for China, for example. Getting paid next to nothing.
You think today is any better? Sure we have a greater number of luxurues, but a higher rate of mental health issues (probably because it's actually recorded for once), huge dietary issues uneven across the board, and big issues from social media.
@@sleepyjo9340 it’s true, I used medicaid, it jacked my whole life up.
@@sleepyjo9340 Idk, the final episode really highlighted the similarities between life back then and the conditions of concentration camps.
As someone who romanticizes the Victorian era, I’m really intrigued to see the reality of how things truly were back then
Same here

Yup...in reality it was not all that amusing
That is likely why immigration was a welcome alternative to life in urban Britain.

"Surviving a Day in the 21st century"
Lol!
Surviving Covid in 2020
"People in those days were incredibly unhealthy. If you lived in the middle to lower class, you'd have no choice but to survive on food that would give you diabetes and worse."
It would be like, living in a lockdown for months where the rules are that you cannot leave your house and every time you turn on the news you see more and more deaths.
Try to keep your sanity while you are practically trapped in your home with your very annoying "family members", but every time you are near them, you have to stay 6 feet away and wear a mask or they are "eliminated" because you are "infected", so every time you see them, you have to worry about hospitalizing and possibly killing them by accident.
Oh, and you have to strategically place clean objects (face towels, etc.) around so they don't touch the objects contaminated with COVID and wash your hands almost every hour and don't touch your eyes or nose...
And every time you receive mail, you have to figure out how to avoid spreading the germs from that around your house. You also have to ration all your disinfecting supplies, soap, and toilet paper for that month because there's no more.
Bonus round: you have kids, so you have to disinfect everything before they touch it because kids touch everything then touch their eyes and pick their noses 24/7.
They’re gonna be like, egh, it was awful, I could never survive that, lol
Just about everyone loves the glamour of the aristocracy, beautiful clothes, tons of servants, glorious food. It's a wonder the poor could even survive. One of the reasons I loved the series Ripper Street is how realistic it was for life in the era the episodes took place. It was so detailed of life in that era.
During that time in Europe, US Native Americans lived and ate much better than these folks.

It was beautiful but this is the other end of life for those less fortunate poor things. I give them so much respect
Nah we only glorify the rich Victorian life, nobody wants to live as an average Victorian ☠️
Not just Victorian society. How many people look back at the 20th century with rose tinted glasses? "In my day, kids spoke to their elders with respect." On and on and on...
The blond lady is hysterical, I love her sense of humor. It's so much better to laugh at a bad situation than to get frustrated.
One of my first jobs (I was 11) was doing reenactments at a Victorian era war museum. It shaped me. I learned to dry herbs, turn wool into thread and then fabric, baked using sugar cones that had to be ground by mortar and pestle, etc. And all in the clothing of the day.
I still went back to modern civilization at night. But it was freaking awesome. Especially the clothes. 🥰
Do you have any souveniers from your time?
But can we just talk about how incredible it is that they set this whole thing up
I think it is there all the time, Blists Hill Victorian Town in Shropshire I think but there are several of them, they are museums and open to the public most of the time but they use them for movie and TV sets over and over again because I keep seeing the same ones LOL.
I was thinking About how expencive it must be to set it all up
@@LeonElQueAmas Yeah but if it's anything like ours here in the US, the tourists invariably ruin the ambiance with modern clothes and modern accoutrements. I worked at one where the best part of the day was an hour BEFORE opening, we looked and felt so authentic and it was cool😃

zxy atiywariii I think it‘s better here. The 1920s series „Peaky Blinders“ was filmed in Birmingham UK so many visitors/tourists who go to this museum dress up like people would have in Edwardian times (early 20th century) which is really great 👍🏻

"There's me in my victorian corset, again, remarkably comfortable" *turns round and shows it isnt even laced up...*
corsets are remarkably comfortable when fitted properly.. especially for heavier/breasted women..
@@claudeusgothicus6453 i can verify that, but they have to be laced and snugged up to get the benefit, not let the laces hang loose at the waist
Corsets or stays weren't supposed to be laced up all the way, especially in working day-to-day. When fitted properly it proved great back support and alignment assistance. Only a few high-fashion people like high-society socialites would often do that for a dramatic look when they didn't need to do any work except look pretty. like saying every woman today wore 6inch stiletto heels. You CAN do it, but it wasn't the norm. there are actually some really interesting videos about it that historical fashion UA-camrs like Karolina Żebrowska (Meme MOOOOM) and Bernedette Banner does a less than 12 minute video about victorian corsets and who wore what and why.

This should've been hidden camera. Them talking into the camera and being followed by a huge modern tech really takes me out of it.
true
Well, you don't really see the camera men and tech that is being used though.
I agree
@soapfanaddict Wasn't there also a show called Frontier House? I vaguely remember it and it was awesome. That and the Colony.
I agree. I'm also a little disappointed since they are supposed to be actors. Too many of them think of this as a joke - they really don't know the hardship and amount of work that went into Victorian lives of the poor. It all seems to be a big joke of laughing about it all instead of actually trying to experience it.

yes other places not just the USA have famous people, who would've thought

For real. His only mistake was telling his "Family" about it when Anne was going to be a wet towel, and wave her morality in everyones face. The impressionist man said he agreed that it was a bad idea, but he didn't threaten to rat him out, he just said it was dangerous.

Thank you so much for enduring this time for our knowledge & entertainment. I've watched this particular series 4-5 times as I'm lost count. you have made me laugh out loud, smile, surprisingly angry, cry with real tears and cringe with disgust. I'm really thankful you brought everything up close and personal as so many people have never been hungry, homeless or cold. So many can't empathize for another soul and they certainly have no sympathy either. I hope this has the hearts of the many who don't believe in giving anyone help as they've either forgotten they or their family received help or they claim there's work for anyone who wants to work. Hopefully, people will open their heats and minds to the fact that one person they claim to this might fit there's another thousand more who won't eat without help. And, no one has the right to speak to anyone has harshly and rudely as those who did at the Work House. It broke my heart when they cruelly locked Ms Anne in the awful, cold room. I'm her age and I know how badly she must've ached from the cold. She was and I'm thankful she did so. I'm sure they were acting (hopefully) but that woman seemed to enjoy speaking to all of you girls terribly. We would've gotten the point regardless. Again, I thank you. You were all my favorites and you were wonderful. Much love from the USA. 🇺🇸🙏❤️🇬🇧
This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. I wish this place was open to the public. But only if you are willing to play the part! What a great way to see life back then. So cool!!!!
The guy that stole the carrot is most likely to survive lol
And he kept quiet about finding that ring too.
or not, you know. maybe more likely to become a crippled, after losing his hand...
@@stillfangirlingtoday1468 survival doesnt come without risks
High chance of death.
There’s been many cases when young children got imprisoned and sent away due to them stealing an apple and such.
Shopkeepers would camp there until they see those thieves and by then, you wouldn’t stand a chance especially if you were a minor.
I would barely qualify as the Night Soil Man.
I have great food, warm shelter, hot showers, bathroom facility, running water and a family that loves me. I am living like a king!
going2sleep I know right! We forget the little things until we see this. I’m sitting in bed with a laptop and a cup of tea and a nice blanket and everything is clean.
It's nice to see people who are greatful for what they have.
Do human desires have any end, I really don't know
better then a king
This show is incredibly interesting and very well done! I'm just astounded.
This is the best documentary I've ever seen I wish there was more
Imagine if they also had to support a family with that pay each day....
Realistically the kids would also be working with the parents if they were this poor, there were no child labour laws
I bet the children worked too though!
Does not help the lot of the people is this video did not work hard and complained all the time. Life would still be bad but if they worked hard it would be better.
Every child able to think straight would be working aswell, getting paid themselves and supporting themselves.
@@godfreyofbouillon5634 Do you really think the life of a Victorian worker got better when they worked harder? Lol no, everyone already worked themselves to the bone and it didn't earn them a penny more.
love the older woman who really seems into character hahaha. She accepts that she only got a penny and scolds the 'young'uns' for gambling. Love that.
Ok with in 'character' I mean she seems like she would fit in right in the victorian age, with not wanting to steal, gamble or do anything fun lol. Goes on and reads the bible at night. Right old victorian lady that.
Yeah she seems to blend in perfectly
@@TheMissbambi she's right about the stealing though. Doing a job like that, if the boss caught you stealing you'd be fired and then you'd be in the work house or worse. Nobody would hire a thief.

I'm so thankful for whoever created plumbing, its practically the best invention ever
People who say they want to be in Victorian era or they love it or wish life was like that. They all imagine them selves in the high class not the low class

Aiméé Tube do you wish it was back in the Victorian erra?
I’d barter the buttons and rings too. You can’t take modern morals and use them in the past. It is life and death.
And- that boss would have been brutal in real Victorian times, would've had them fired and charged with petty crimes 10 times over by the end of the day.
exactly.. you'd have to play it smart.. plus there would probably be a shop you could sell them at for come coin
Congratulations. You've booked a one way ticket to Australia.
hand in some of them and keep the rest..if you never hand in any buttons the boss'll get suspicious
I've heard it said it said most profoundly "the past was harder to survive than the present in nearly every way" so true. Especially when death came from easily treatable diseases today.
The older woman seemed more into it in the aspect of what it takes to feed yourself/working, I really liked her attitude even if she did come off as a bit rude.
Next time you're running into a garbage man, sewer worker, cleaning lady, custodian, recycling plant worker, plumber, etc., etc., etc, make sure to thank everybody and truly appreciate how valuable their work is for our society!
I'm glad YOU KNOW.
Amen to that!
Thank gif they’re paid a lot better too, most of the jobs mentioned have higher salaries than teachers
Sewer workers get paid quite nicely, as they should. I did a tour of a waste water treatment center, a lot of those guys make 100k+...again...as they should.
its fine to appreciate them, but their salary is their thanks.... Where I am from you walk up to a garbage man and say "thanks" you will get a nasty reaction, possibly may get into a fight!
To be fair, it's kind of hard to keep a rug clean when everything is disgusting.
To be realistic, none of them knew what they were in for.
Them: "they wouldn't be as disgusted at human waste. We just flush it away, it's invisible."
Me, who pumps out a ship's septic tank every day and has been coated head to toe in it: ".... maybe for you."
I would so love to do this in a medieval French village to try to understand the time period of my ancestors. I tend to view that time so romantically and sentimentally but what I really want is the knowledge and understanding as a young woman of what the women in my history would have gone through. It would be nice to feel connected to them.
Tiger has the right idea. You're in desperate poverty, no safety nets, no one will help, so you have to do what you can to survive. If some stolen veg can keep you alive another day, and a stolen ring can provide for you when you are too sick to work for a while, that's what you need to do. Morality will leave you starving to death, you have to be looking out for yourself at other's expense sadly. Tiger would've been alive in those times. The rest would've changed or starved by that time.
I know right but imagine it's the 1940's
So you think there were no honest or kind people living in the 1880s? You are wrong. There were all types of people then, just like now. People willing to lie, cheat, steal, and hurt others to get ahead think the rest of the world is exactly like they are. It is not the case.
That's true. Heaps of kids pickpocketed from people just too survive.
Until you get caught.
