I was shuffling songs on Spotify a few days ago, and I was going through a really bad spell. When this started playing, I started crying and repeated probably four times. My name is Winter.
I love this song. Being a college kid I've seen most of this stuff happen with my parents, where we still try to keep in touch and such. In particular, one line feels extremely personal: "Yknow I cannot wait to teach you how to curse, but shit I gotta meet your mom first." It reminds me of my mom, who, in our family our favorite word is shit, and she always tells me she's gonna teach my kids how to swear and say the word shit since that's our family word haha. Random story, but thanks again, AJR, you got my heart with this one.

Firstly, this moved my soul. I know you guys will never read this, and that's fine, but in the off chance that you do, I'd like to say I'm really glad you wrote this song. I never had a good relationship with my dad. It's nice to listen to these lyrics and hear such a beautiful message written for the child you don't even know yet, but you hope to. It reminded me of How I Met Your Mother a little bit. I appreciate the songs in which you write about your thoughts and feelings. They remind me why I love life, music, and art. We named our daughter after this song. Ezmé Winter Pretty. We both loved this song even before I got pregnant and this song meant so much more to us after we found out. The first time I heard this I cried because it's such a beautiful song and then everytime it came on in the car while I was pregnant I just sobbed happily with my husband because he made me a Mom. I love this song. Being a college kid I've seen most of this stuff happen with my parents, where we still try to keep in touch and such. In particular, one line feels extremely personal: "Yknow I cannot wait to teach you how to curse, but shit I gotta meet your mom first." It reminds me of my mom, who, in our family our favorite word is shit, and she always tells me she's gonna teach my kids how to swear and say the word shit since that's our family word haha. Random story, but thanks again, AJR, you got my heart with this one.
