Fun fact this is actually Ryan’s story not Jack’s. Ryan was single for a long time and that’s how he wrote both Dear Winter, Turning Out Part 2, and Turning Out because it was a hard time in his life. He really wanted to have a kid and name them Winter. But he was struggling in the dating world to find someone perfect for him. Jack sings this song, and Turning Out because he can convey the emotion better with his voice. Ryan song Turning Out part 2 though because the song needed plain singing which Ryan could do really well on. But a lot of people think it’s about Jack when it’s really about Ryan.

This song is incredibly beautiful, and I identify with it so well. Throughout my 20's, I would frequently play out scenarios in my head of what I hoped my life would be like, using the narrative to help ease the loneliness I felt in those 10 years. It kept me hopeful, but at the same time it was easy to get down and think it was never going to happen. The line, "I've got to find a girl that doesn't mind that I'm inside my head a lot" just so perfectly incapsulated my neurotic nature and how I could sometimes lose myself in my fantasies. Now, I've been married for almost 5 years to a woman who truly understands me, and we're expecting our first child this June, a boy. My name is winter and when this ong came out I cryed so hard because I was going through a really tough patch in my life and this song convinced me to not k!ll myself this band has done so much for me because the first time I wanted to die I was 8 and I found "I'm ready" and immediately knew I should stay. When the click came out I listened to it on my phone so many time and when I would listen to the radio I would hope it was one of their songs. I saw then in concert because my parent saw my brother getting into them and wanted to take him and they let me come along too
