Hi pal Just wanted to say thanks for the great review. Stumbled across it and it gave me the information I needed to go ahead and purchase one. Looking forward to using it this year.
Nice review Sir, you should try and get a Virtus MK3 bergen so much more comfortable in my opinion, I have a love hate relationship with my old PLCE bergen but they are bombproof and built to last too.
Hiking & Survival in Japan do you happen to know how these compare to the Snugpak rocketpack that is similar to this design? I just found out about this British military version and am trying to decide between the 2...
The MOD rocket pouches are made to last and do what is needed. The Snugpak and Highlander pouches come with extra pockets and other add ons. But they are just as good. But most are all in MTP pattern for the troops.
morning friend . great video, the light s are a nice touch how long have you had it an do you still use it or have you gone down to 30-45lit bag . thanks for doing the video . ATB .
Just had it two years now and it is still going strong. I do use smaller civi- packs for day hikes. But for the big long hikes and big video days I will still use it.
Hi thanks for talking the time too answer . You may like the northern Ireland 38lt pacjk . That's a good one too have . I'm on the look out for one of em . ATB
+Andy Buckley many years ago I had the chance to use one on a rescue training weekend. Great pack, was perfect for getting in and out of a small helicopter. But I found the size lacking in what I needed for the day. But as a personal day pack it's great. If you are living in the UK or Ireland it will be easy to find.
@@muwuny on the bottom of the main pack had four male clips. Two on each side. These are mainly used to clip onto the rocket pouch , with its two matching female clips and then secured with the two zippers. These makes a small pocket behind the rocket pouch which you can store items. But remember small items may fall out the bottom. The clips will hold larger items from sliding out of said pocket. If your pack has other clips then these . I can not help you answer this question and refer you to watch other people’s videos on this pack which may answer your question. Thank you for watching this old video of mine.
Thank you for watching and for the information. I never heated that before and I was never issued one with mine when I had mine given to me years ago. I do remember the Irish Army trying out truck seats at were part of our smocks. Anyway thanks and I will looking in to that information.
@@HikingSurvivalJapan check out Dickie's web site uk they mod out PLCE stuff. I find they don't sit on hips right and a back padder really helps. Keep it up fella
Great great bag have 3 of them one in dpm like your and the other one in irish dpm and other is airborn one dpm of couse and has 6 pockets a cross the front of it
I am loving mine!! But it needs a good clean. I don't know how you got the Irish DPM one.. But good for you!! No one in Japan had ever seen one before. I have had some strange looks and many questions from passing hikers that day.
+Belfastchild No , I was never a soldier. My role with the IDF was search and rescue, mountain rescue and heavy rescue. This was back in the late 90s and the Civil Defense force in Ireland fell under their command. The head of the CD at that time was a IDF commandant and he made sure many of us were cross trained with the IDF members. I do have a video explaining my past where I explain it more.
+Belfastchild I must have taken the video down when I changed my channel from Airsoft to just hiking and survival. But I still have photos and other info on my Facebook page still.
so... i take it that you are ex i.d.f. i have had my 120 l bergen since 1981. packed to capacity in 1982 ... still going strong , despite a tumble in Ben Nevis.
This video is a few years old and I got this from a friend who owns an Army and Navy store. It was his last one as well. They are really hard to find these days.
+tim tran Tim you did not look very hard!! They are all over eBay!! m.ebay.com/itm/G2-Used-British-Army-DPM-Camo-PLCE-Bergen-Day-Sack-Side-Pouch-Yoke-Rocket-Pocket-/ The thing that holds the pouches together is called a "Yoke" it's name comes from the straps that goes on horses to pull carts. Hope this helps!!
+tim tran No problem!! The side pouches are called " Rocket pouches" if you look for these on eBay you will find the yokes as well. Make sure the one you buy matches your pouches!! Or you may have problems with the snaps!!
A very good review but you've got the details about how the side pouches fit to waistbelt webbing (PLCE not MOLLE) wrong. Not crucial, it's academic unless users are going to walk about in full marching order! They were STILL making the green PLCE in 1992 for the British Army - the DPM PLCE is 1995 Patt PLCE, generally issued from 1996 onward. Yours is DEFINITELY the FIRST short-dated production run of the 1990 Patt PLCE: the white name label, the bright green drawstring tape and the thin hip pads are the giveaway - I'd have sworn 1988 manufacture but the markings state 1989. Might be why the lid zip runs the wrong way. Likely collectible to the right person. The side pouches are Brit issue, not necessarily Eire issue only. Green '90 Patt PLCE was issued to the British Army in two shades of green. The longback and shortback have the SAME capacity. They're actually sized for the wearer's back. I cycle with mine. I can't believe that you have the EXACT SAME light on yours!
Wow!! This is a 4 year old video and has over 8 million views. And you are the first person to say you can not hear my voice in the video. Please remember this was filmed out side by a river . Not in a studio or in some ones garden pretending to be in a forest.
Excellent - but the sound of the stream behind you makes it difficult to hear you properly.

Thank you!! Enjoy the pack and make great memories!!

What are the clips on the bottom for?
Are you talking about the clips on the rocket pouches? They clip into the side of the pack when zipped on.
@@HikingSurvivalJapan No, on the bottom of the main pouch itself

the bottom "grab handles" on the back are for fitting extra padding, btw. good video

I have an opportunity to purchase a Bergen, can the shoulder straps be replaced?
If you can find someone with an industrial sowing machine, maybe. But it maybe better not to buy it if it needs new straps.
@@HikingSurvivalJapan I'll take a chance, this would like nice next my ALICE pack.
