I just discovered this channel, and the band Car Bomb. This is great. That riff was sick, had me bobbin' my head.
I love playing my 7-string, and I'm always looking for more ways to improve my playing. I just happened to have bought a multiscale (25.5 to 27 scale), and I still own a 26.5 scale. Love both, and use both for different tones.

Honestly the lowest tuning I've ever been happy with on my 25.5" 7 string RG has been drop A# Everything below that I end up feeling like the tonal quality just falls off quick

Straight to the point, I like it. On 27 inch scale length having an evertune for a drop F tuning helps. In fact I would recommend only evertune guitars for those low tunings unless you are getting a 30 inch type Meshuggah ibanez! Good Video!

I agree with what your saying to an extent.. I have a 27 inch in drop f# 70-11 and if I measure the 1st fret it’s exactly 1.5 inches and I realized whatever tuning/ string gauge I have on my 27 will feel the same 1/2 step up on my 25.5 which is pretty cool … just some food for thought

I tried a 6 string 28 inch scale Chapman at a guitar center a couple months ago and hated it, the neck profile and the reach was just super uncomfortable for me however I own a 26.5" scale Ibanez RGD and I love that thing! Easily my favorite guitar that I've ever owned. I'm a shorter guy with small hands and I'm pretty satisfied with 26.5" - 27" scale length but beyond that, just doesn't work for me. The slimmer profile of the wizard neck may also be a factor. Either way, I don't go past drop A or G so I'm pretty content within those scale lengths. My recommendation for anyone reading this and is interested in baritones is to try different scale lengths and work your way up to figure out what works best for you and your needs.

Voideater- Chapman is a new company and i would spend my money other places, not surprised you didn't gel with it. Ibanez guitars are amazing , i absolutely love my mine. Agree with you 100 percent . Great company, especially the 2020 multi fret basses.
I think your spot on with the scale length advice, you have find what works best for you the player. Myself i prefer 28, that works good with my hands and like you said. I worked up to that length. I had a 28.5 fender jaguar for a short period but it wasn't all that, so i passed it on. Welcome to the channel, i hope you continue to post comments. I have some cool videos coming up. We shot the first 10 vids awhile ago. I do have 3 custom build videos coming soon. One is a killer 37 scale bass, not a Dingwall

I have the Ibanez RGIB6 28" scale. Over the few years i've had it, I've slowly gone to lighter strings (i play in B standard). Any idea what the lightest string gauge I can use and still have enough tension, no fret buzz, and good intonation? It came with 68-14 (felt too heavy to me and my hands get fatigued i guess?), tried 13-59 (D'Addario baritone Light), but i currently use 12-62 (Mammoth Slinky)...Thanks

    • @baritonecult622
      @baritonecult622  4 роки тому +3

Bnoyz3- I personally like heavier gauges. I think you using 12-62 is probably a good gauge. You know you could always try DAddario 13-62 Baritone light, i know that are the same gauge
your using but you never know. As far as fret buzz and intonation bring it to a local luthier and have him set it up. Or if thats in your wheelhouse , fine tune it yourself. I know when i took mine to my luthier he was like your 3rd fret was messed up, he fixed it. I never would have knew about it and that was from the factory.
or or you could go to Kalium and order a custom set of stainless steel strings. I love those . I checked out Hydrilla Killer tracks

I use a 27 inch scale 8 string with a low E and that low string is good till about the 7th fret. I don't use a longer scale because 27 is super comfortable to me and I am super happy with the tension of the other 7 strings. No reason to mess up the feel and tone of the rest of the guitar just to optimize that low string a bit more

@@baritonecult622 seems like you've got an awesome channel going dude. I actually owned one of the Ibanez Meshuggah signature models and the scale length was just absurd. Like a neck that long and wide just wasn't for me even though the low string intonated properly. Also my 8 string I use primarily my Jericho just sounds way better and has way more attack. I've played 8s for awhile and just due to the nature of how they are I think it's best to not get too hung up on the intonation of the low string simply because every other string will intonate perfectly so it isn't like you are losing any range. Just have to be concious about it and play around it a bit. No big deal

@@baritonecult622 that's sweet I hope it works out for you.
The things that led to me getting rid of that guitar were ultimately
It sounding dull (I assume because of the bridge)
The scale length combined with wide neck was just obnoxious to play.
The way the locking nut is the strings end up not being spaced perfectly so they are slightly closer together in groups of 2 which really threw off some of my tapping stuff.
And lastly not being able to adjust the string heights individually. With a scale that is that long ideally you want to be able to fine tune the height of every string but the way that bridge is you can't.
I will say though the guitar held tuning fantastically.
Personally I would really recommend you look into Jericho, I have a fusion ignition 8 that retailed for like 700 bucks or something but it blows that m80m and my ibanez prestige 8 string out of the water. I've had that guitar for two years at this point and only had to touch the truss rod once. It is ungodly stable and holds tune like nobody's business.

@@espguitarsown Happy to info share brother. Baritone shopping can be a bit tricky. I have a Ibanez 28 scale, its nice but usually lend it out. Does G good and w the right pickups sounds and plays great.
It really depends on your price range. I have a few favorites, one i believe you can get right now. Fender jag japan made baritone 28.9 scale. I did put some work into it but it just stomps. I think there is one for $1700 out there .
or you could grab a Danelectro Baritone , get a Korean made (used) 29.75 scale $700. One thing to keep in mind, if your currently playing a 27 scale or maybe thats the only Bari you've owned. You have adjustments (hands-dexterity) nothing wrong w moving your way up to see what you like . Or just go for it, regardless a 28 scale is a way better starting point than a 27. I still use my 27 once in a while.
Last to remember, if song writing is your goal a 37 scale bass kills in A and does G pretty good. I can help you w any of that later. Nothing better that a long scale Bari dialed in to perfection. Cheers BC
