This lure acts like the reverse rig of an old standby that we have been using for bass (and even large trout) in the local lakes for over 30 years. It is a 6" plastic worm, natural nightcrawler color from Creme Lures that is pre-rigged with mono, two hooks, and a bead with a small propeller spinner at the nose. A steady retrieve causes the prop to spin, and that makes the worm shimmy a bit from the vibration of the prop. Drives the fish wild. Now that I think about it, it goes way back farther than 30 years. More like over 50 years. I used to get them at the old Payless drug store in the late 60's. Dang, I am old.
I talked to the scientist at Berkley fishing a few years ago and he said bass do not like flash, he said they like sparkle. Though I assume he would agree flash will help by getting the attention from the bass from far away. KVD said to much flash can spook bass, he said use a gold blade when the sun goes below the tree lines. Great video Thanks ! 🎥
You can tell the scientists at Berkeley that they are full of beans! I catch a very large percentage of my bass EVERY year on a three eighth ounce double willow blade spinnerbait!!!
Just found this channel. Love the idea of using things in my tackle box in new ways. Not having a ton of spare time, I end up fishing heavily pressured ponds when I have a minute or two. Always looking for something just a bit different.
Hi Mr Rogers , my name is Garren O'Rourke I live in Kissimmee Florida on the banks of lake Toho. I tried the willow leaf method on a Bass Pro Shop stick bait (Baby Bass ) and it worked like a charm. I went from catching fish that were 2lbs to the 4, 5, 6lb range with this method. Great fun , Big fan of your channel. Thanks again.
I tried that method today 6/1/24 used a Junebug with silver Colorado spoon. 3rd cast 3lbr smashed it. Thanks Boss wish we could post pics here . Thanks Instant sub !!
I threw my Roboworm Ned worms. I rigged the 2/0 EWG hook through the pointed tail end and threaded an Owner CPS with a swivel and willow blade on the fatter end.
Steve will have to give this a shot. Just a thought. What about using an Owner Flashy Swimmer and then add the tail willow blade as well. I think this could be a finesse power rig looking like a small school of bait fish. A mono A-Rig. Would love your thoughts on this Steve.
Love what you do,We have no bass in the uk but nice perch, trying all the things you suggest for them, do you ever fish real worms, i think you call them night crawlers,Roger in the uk,77 years old but up for learning!!!!
I don't use real worms for bass, but I have run a lot of fishing camps over the years where we go through lots of them. We do call the big worms here nightcrawlers.
If you want to go next level Steve, put the blade on a Strike King caffeen shad. The bait walks a little tighter, but as it comes to a stop, the blade is still spinning rapidly. Very good in grass, plus it fishes better in the wind. Lets see some underwater footage of this one. Your welcome
I fish alot of weed bottom lakes and ponds and thought that the blade would foul up with weeds but you showed that it doesn't. Since its a alternative to a spinnerbait im going to try different blade styles and also blade colors ie gold ,copper or painted to match color of lure
@@SteveRogersOutdoors I'm out of action due to a torn bicep tendon I should be able to fish by June. But I will definitely let you know. This is why I love fishing so much even though I'm 59 and have alot of knowledge there is always something new to learn
I wonder how those blades would work combined with a chatterbait type jig head? I got some heads with willow leaf chatterbait blades and they might work with a fluke type body and a spinner tail, especially in saltwater or for bass on muddy water.
What I have witnessed around my lakes is when that super cold snap hits they will often just slip down to the next break very near to where they were working on beds. Often just straight down and then maybe laterally a bit until they find cover/structure to hang on. Right in front of my house they will slip to where the slope and the lakebed meet - which is around 8-9ft in front of my house. I hope that helps.
When I was a kid back in the 80's. I would throw Texas rigged and he would throw the already rigged worms with 2 hooks and 2 in line spinners. They were cheap and he hammered bass. He caught a 7lb from the bank, his pole broke and we had to hand line it in. We got our pictures in the paper with that monster.
As you stated, it’s been around for a long time, I just do not understand why these little tricks suddenly become a sensation 🤷🏼 Not only is this effective, it’s cheap, it’s room friendly to your arsenal, for those of us who only get out once in a while, it’s a very quick way to make an adjustment.
Dude! Delete this video and the one about wacky rigging a fluke style bait. JK lol. Great stuff. I've done really good in my tournaments this year with this and the wacky fluke.
You say more in first 2 minutes then every other angler. Great format!!!
Thank you! I try to get right to the point as fast as I can. Your time is valuable and I appreciate you watching.

That is a great lure! I used it quite a bit in the past and still catches them so well. I remember seeing them first in my dad's tackle box as a kid.
I really enjoy your short to the point videos. Excellent video and great underwater shots.
Thank you! I try to get right to it. I understand how busy life can be and appreciate folks taking the time to watch.

Super interesting! Thanks for adding this.
I can believe that!

I wouldn't buy into that, have you ever thrown a magnum flutter spoon? It looks like someone has a spotlight underwater.

Awesome info Steve 👍 You have the best underwater videos 💯
Thanks!

That is awesome! I really enjoy fishing Toho. I try to get there once a year. You caught some real nice fish! Congrats.
Cool how bass fishing allows so much creativity. It’s a great sport.
It is! Endless ways to experiment and catch them.
This has been amazing for these couple of weeks here on my ponds. Thanks for sharing.
That’s awesome!
Cant wait to try this, hope they come in gold. If not for your video in dark water i would never consider it. Great camera work.
They do come in gold as well. Good luck!
Very cool. I'll try this on the rocks for Ontario smallies. Thanks Steve.

Thanks for the links to BPS. I plan to purchase some of these blades and give it try. 👍
Good luck!
I gotta try that, Steve. Great to see ya and I pray you are well. Be safe
It is a good one that not a lot of folks are using. I have been very pleased with it. I am doing well and pray you are also!
It really is a great presentation. It's a great way to get a novice angler on some fish even on tough days. Just ask my wife about that, lol!
You inspired me with it! And I must say I was very impressed.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors Thank you! I'm very happy you liked it!
Steve thanks for all the info.
You’re welcome!
Solid advise 😅😅 Steve 😋👍
Thanks! I cannot believe I haven’t done this years ago.
Great video sir, can't wait to try this out ! Thanks and God Bless ! 🎣
Good luck! I have been very pleased so far with it.
Worked really well down at the river over vegetation but not well at my local highly-pressured lake.
It’s a good one for vegetation for sure. The lakes are super pressured right now. Been crazy around here.
I threw my Roboworm Ned worms. I rigged the 2/0 EWG hook through the pointed tail end and threaded an Owner CPS with a swivel and willow blade on the fatter end.
I will be trying this one, thanks... got my first fish out of the new boat... a 19 inch walleye 😂.. not a bass like i hoped but he tasted good lol
Congratulations! That first fish is a big moment.
Excellent presentation
It is! Really enjoy fishing it.

That is terrific! Thank you for that idea. I will try to do that. I really appreciate it
Good info, thanks. Works well with ned rigs, too. ZMan makes a stick pin version, a bit pricey like everything else, but easier with their lures.
I will have to try that! Thanks
Thanks for sharing that information buddy! #SteveRogersOutdoors rocks!
You’re welcome! I was very impressed by it.
Good idea…just an extra bit of something to draw their attention…thanks for the video.
Just a slight, subtle difference. It is quickly becoming a confidence bait for me.
Any chance of doing a compleat beginner vid, ie how hook baits ect, thanks.
I definitely need to! Than you for the suggestion.
I use this technique with a zoom mag worm it definitely works well
That would be an excellent worm to use! Thank you for sharing this.

There are some pokey spinners (z-man?) to use with the z-man plastics.
Thank you!
looks awesome. hey steve when bass start making beds and cold weather hits do they move to deeper grass or do they move to docks? thanks for vids

I remember fishing those too! That is a giant bass and what great memories to have in the paper.
I can see repurposing some old rooster tail poser lures in my future!!
Oh definitely! That would be a great use.

It’s a good one! And like you said, an easy alteration.

Yes, it’s been around awhile and really gaining a resurgence again.

Shhhhhhhh
Lol!
How many blade have you lost, or do you also glue them a little ?
Most often when I lose the blade I lose the whole worm. I think I have only lost a couple out of the worm. I haven’t glued them as of yet.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors ok,thanks!
I don’t about trending. Keith Poche made this popular years ago
He said it’s nothing new.
It’s been around a long time and seems to be making a strong resurgence. Keith was on to something!
